goals. At the beginning of the poem, Ulysses seems to feel bored and

longing as Ulysses begins to talk about his past travels. Ulysses states
that there is no point in staying home with his old wife. Ulysses reflects
on his past as a sailor, and thinks of himself as a roamer and explorer of
the earth. He is reflecting on his past journeys and feels an intense
longing to relive those moments. His attitude is a combination of
restless, passionate, and nostalgic
He claims that even at home, he does not feel at home due to his
"hoard[ing], and sleep[ing], and feed[ing]" people. Ulysses compares
himself to a wandering "gray spirit" through a metaphor, showing that
even if his body may deteriorate, his journeying spirit does not waver.
He feels that he can only find his true self by always wandering. In the
second stanza, Ulysses seems proud and honored for his son to be taking
over Ithaca. The third and last stanza begins with an eager feeling and

time left is growing scarce. He ends his speaking with one engraving
