Hi there,
How are you? How are you handling the rain?
Some of you may be moody and gloomy because of it, but some Romanians may be delighted. Why? Because here it is believed that if it rains during your wedding day, you will have a happy marriage.
Speaking of superstitions, in today's Folklore Thursday email we'll cover some of the most popular Romanian superstitions and beliefs.
● If you have an itchy foot, you'll be travelling soon.
● Is your left hand itchy? Perfect! You will receive some money. Oh, sorry...it was the right hand? Then you will give money. ● Itchy nose? Get ready to be slapped. ● If you sit at the corner of the table you will not get married. ● Your girlfriends are getting married and asked you to be their bridesmaid? That's so sweet! If you are a bridesmaid 3 times in a row, say bye your wedding because you will never get married. ● Thank God there is a solution. Count 100 white horses on the same day and you will marry the first unmarried man that crosses your path. But be careful to not have stayed in the way of a housemaid while dusting because then you will marry an ugly clumsy person. ● Too much to take into consideration...single and fabulous sounds awesome anyway. So let's get a cat. If your cat washes her face and paws in the hallway it means guests are coming. If the cat is washing on the threshold, you will be visited by a priest. ● No one likes uninvited guests. So get dressed and get out of the house before they arrive. But pay attention! You should never get out from a house on another door except for the one you entered, as it will bring bad luck. Oh, and while you are walking, if a black cat crosses the road in front of you, or if you meet with a priest (what's the deal with priests and faith anyway?) on the road, then you will have bad luck. ● Whatever... let's stay inside because we don't want some evil black cat to bring us bad fortune. We'll simply won't answer the door. But don't whistle! If you whistle while you are inside, get ready for some bad luck. ● Better go to sleep. What could possibly go wrong while you sleep, right? Right. Unless you played with fire during the day. Then you will wet your bed overnight. Also, be careful when you get up. If you start making the bed, never stop before finishing because it brings bad luck.
Strange, right? What do you think? Are you superstitious?
