Political Wisdom

Political ideology and cultural diversity are some of the important aspect of the most

nations in the world. They shape the way the out nation thinks and accordingly, acts. Still as a

citizens of nation we, the most of the millennial generation are unaware and uneducated about

the political information. However, time comes in our life when we started getting interested in

political field. For me that time was after, Narendra Modi the CM of Gujarat who becomes the

Prime Minister of India in 2014 I started to like politics. After a year later, when U.S president of

that time Mr. Barack Obama visited India on republic day in 2015. Hearing some motivational

speeches from both great personalities I got interested in nation relations and political science,

both leaders had a strong personality and encouragement for youth- that spark my interest into

politics. Until I was in India I had a habit to read the newspaper in the morning and watch the 9

o’clock news – that was my basic source of news. PM Modi has launched the app for cell phones

so that people can get accurate and future information about future plans and new services. After

moving to USA that habit faded a little and I started to relay on other media like websites, flip

boards and news channels. Now a day cell phones are one of the most used tools for news and

social media. News companies have also started making their way into social media as they

knew more people are on social media then on news channels. Social media seems to be turning

out as a local TV for millennial generation.

In this modern world to keep ourselves updated in context of what’s going on around the

globe, we need some sort of media to that for us, and that is news. News can be access from any

corner of the world and anybody can know what is going in the countries of the world. News

includes all types of information such as information about businesses, politician, political

science, social issue, sports, crimes, weather updates and crimes. Depending upon the news

stories they are divided into two types - soft news and hard news. Soft news is intended to advice

or entertain the audience while hard news is up to the point and presented on the different tone

with a factual approach. Some of example of soft news can be news about enhancement of

lifestyles or the news about entertainment and affairs. While hard news includes the topics like

war, crime, drugs and politics. People tends to remember hard news more often than the soft

news and especially if that event had affected them in personal, but again the source of the media

and media background needs to be verified and it should be from credible source before one can

trust that news. For the same reason we all should have a basic knowledge of media literacy.

From centuries, literacy is referred to as the ability to read and write. In today’s digital

world we get our most of the information and news through an interwoven system of media

technologies. That demands us to add more skills to our brain. Media literacy involves the ability

to access, analyze, evaluate and create media. We can consumers of online information – it’s

getting difficult for us to which media information to trust on. Because, now days we often get

across the information that just fake and hoax which indirectly affects our views and belief

regarding that information.

Often we don’t take it into consideration but we don’t really seek out for the information.

We just rely on information that is readily available thru media like internet, radio or print media.

For the most part, we acquire political information and opinions unintentionally rather than

seeking it out for it. This is called by-product theory. It is getting difficult to get real and legit

information because people are not using news channels or newspapers to get information rather

they depend on social media and internet use. Media has become very influential when it comes

to how the public preserves politics. There are a lot of responsibilities that the media holds when

putting out information. The media has a very huge impact on the minds of different individuals;

which has been in the pass the reason many elections have been won. Many people question if

the press and online media really have a huge impact on who we choose our elected officials?

Without the media, most people would know little, if anything, about the people who run for

office, much less those who are elected. So, their role is critical, because whether they mean to or

not, the media ultimately shape public opinion. The media also play a part in defining the image

of a candidate, a critical factor during an election.
