Manage ventilation
in hotel bathroom

Section 1 > time relays

Savings enabler
Automation ensures considerable energy saving by automatically
extinguishing lighting and ventilation when it is not necessary.
The time delay can be set from 0.1 second to 100 hours.

Solution diagram Information

Customer’s needs
The hotel manager wishes to lower the electrical
energy consumption while providing guests with
H maximum comfort by installing an automatic
bathroom ventilation system.

Application
recommendation
Ensure that the bathroom ventilation system is
operational while the bathroom is in use and that it
remains on only for a few minutes after the light has
been switched off.
A time-delay relay is used to prevent the extractor
from switching off immediately and to ensure that it
remains on during an adjustable time-delay period.

Energy Efficiency
core products
The solution is to use an RTC relay to supply the
extractor when the bathroom light is switched on:
• Ventilation at the same time
• When the hotel guest switches off the lighting,
the RTC relay continues to operate the ventilation
• The ventilator stops after a preset operating
time to ensure that any unpleasant smells and
moisture are removed but prevents energy waste

The RTC relay supplies its output 18 as soon as input Y1 is activated

The time delay starts when RTC input Y1 is disabled

Functions
MIN, MINs
These timers allow closing and then opening of a contact in a determined time.

MINp, MINt
In addition to MIN and MINs functions, these timers provide warning that the
lighting is about to be switched off by flickering of the lamplight (switch-off warning).
The MINt timer is the same as MINp with an ‘impulse relay’ additional function.

PRE
This is used in association with MIN or MINs timers and only on incandescent
lighting circuits (not used on fluorescent, fluocompact lamps and very low voltage
halogen lamps). It provides warning that the lighting is about to be switched off by
reducing the brightness by 50% during the 20 to 60 s warning time.

Solution diagram Information

L Customer’s needs
N Shared building premises (entrance halls, cellars,
1 garages) are not normally occupied at all times,
and when they are, the times are irregular.
C60H Moreover, they are normally located in dark
places requiring lighting at all times of the day
and night. Permanent lighting of these places is
incompatible with the notion of energy savings.

Application recommendation
By using one MINp timer, it is easy to efficiently
2 manage temporary lighting of shared building
premises. The early switch-off warning reduces
light intensity by 50% just before the end of the
period, thus enabling the restart a new 3-minute
MINp period in complete safety without reaching
total darkness. If permanent lighting is needed
(servicing, maintenance), the ON override function
will ensure continuous operation of lights.

Keeping energy costs down

ARGUS presence detectors

Increasing energy costs and growing awareness of the

environment in modern buildings management now
mean that more innovative solutions for efficient energy
use are required.
You can count on the Argus presence detectors from Schneider Electric.
At the end of the day, they reduce heating and power costs and bring an end
to unnecessary energy consumption in offices, classrooms, long corridors
and entrance halls. This is because they control the lighting, heating and
ventilation in individual rooms according to need.

controlled with just one device, leading to
energy costs.

User/customer benefits
Energy savings, safety: people movements are
detected and if light is required it will come on
automatically and turn off after a while when they
have left. This saves unnecessary lighting and
improves safety, since there is no wall switch to
look for in the darkness.
Flexibility: a two-way switch at the reception desk
(for example) provides a continuous ON override
option for special occasions.
Sensitivity: a presence detector is much more
sensitive than a movement detector (PIR).
It will detect the slightest movement.

standard TL impulse relay for new or upgrading
existing installations.

Control auxiliaries

Section 7 > contactors

These auxiliaries can perform a great variety of functions:
• from the simplest (signalling, timer, illumination delay, etc.);
• to the most sophisticated (centralised multi-level control,
step-by-step control, etc.).

Moreover, some auxiliaries make it possible to overcome electrical

disturbance which may detract from satisfactory switching operation.
• Schneider Electric has the most comprehensive and coherent product
offering in the market. All the auxiliaries in a family (modular contactor
or impulse relay) are compatible with all the devices in that family.
• They are very easy to install thanks to their integral mounting clips
