The Location can be anywhere in the World, but you must be able to provide evidence for the questions
below.
Please include any supporting materials like photo’s or maps to help with your Recce.
Think BIG and use your imagination to help create the reasons why you would need the Location of your
choice.
Producer: Anna
Audio/visual problems: The filming location will be near a road which means we may get audio input
from passing cars, however the filming will be done in the caves, which means it is less likely to hear any
sounds as they are further away from the road and the cave walls will block out most of the sound. If on
the day of the filming the wind is strong, it may be heard but it is also not likely. If this happens, we will
try using different mic types or used deadcats and windshields so they don’t pick up as much sound, but
the wind sounds may actually add a horror-like feeling to the scene, which may be useful.
Weather conditions: The filming will take place inside the caves so weather won’t affect the filming
itself, however the temperature may be low which means the crew will have to dress warm, and it may
affect the equipment. We may face harsh weather conditions during transport to the location, such as
rain, wind or snow, which means equipment must be transported securely so it doesn’t get wet or
damaged.
Continuity: There isn’t much about the location which can change, apart from the water levels in the
caves, however filming will take only a few hours so it’s not likely there will be a difference.
Electricity/Lighting issues: We will need to take batteries with us as there won’t be any electricity in the
caves, however they’re a tourist attraction so there already are reflectors and lights put in place, so if
given permission, we may use some of them. If not, we could bring our own equipment and spare
batteries. The lighting, however, may take a while to set up, and I would have to see if the lighting at the
location will be suitable enough. We may have to use their lighting at some scenes and our own in
others, or a mix of both to see what works best.
Set dressing: The set contains everything I want to show in my scene and mostly doesn’t need any
special effects or altering.
Welfare: Wookey Hole is a tourist attraction, which means there will be toilets in the buildings nearby
and refreshments from vending machines or in storage. There is free Wi-Fi and an in-house restaurant
and bar. Due to the area being closed on the day of filming, we will need to ask permission to use the
facilities or be assisted by a member of staff. The filming may take a couple hours, but if we run into
issues or the footage is not up to the required standards, we will have to come back a different day as
there aren’t any sleeping facilities for the whole crew.
Parking/Public transport to location: There is free parking at the site and easy access by roads, which
means any crew members with a driver’s license can arrive in a car, and there is a bus shelter near the
site which would take roughly an hour and a half to get to the bus stop and then 22 minutes by foot
from Weston-Super-Mare.
Covid 19 restrictions: We will film the scene on a day when the area is closed to the public to avoid
further spread, and everyone in the crew will be required to wear a mask when working closely with
others and we will each disinfect our hands regularly using hand sanitisers. If possible, we will ask the
crew members to socially distance from one another.
Possible dates for filming: October 2020 (apart from dates 19th-29th), December dates until the 21 st.
January and February dates may be available upon further discussion with the manager/owner of the
site.
