Abaqus Training

11-01-2015
Prepared by:
M.V.Bhaskararao
Offshore Structural Engineer
Type of analysis& Modules

► Abaqus/CAE: Used for complete modeling, analysis and post

processing. Subset software called viewer for only post processing or
viewing results
► Abaqus/Standard: Finite element solver (traditional solver using
integration scheme)
► Abaqus/Explicit: Special purpose tool for highly nonlinear systems with
many complex contacts under transient load.
► Abaqus/CFD: Advanced computational fluid dynamics capability

► Abaqus/Electro magnetic: for solving advance electromagnetic

problems

Components in Abaqus model

► Modeling Geometry: Modeling of 1-D, 2-D and 3-D elements such as

beams, Shells and solids. Various Importing options (DWG, IGES etc).
► Materials and Properties: Basic Structural, Thermodynamic properties

► Meshing: Various meshing techniques 1-D, 2-D and 3-D that includes
linear and Quadratic elements.
► Assembly: Complex physical combinations can be created using Part
and instances modeling.
► Prescribed Conditions, Constrains & Interactions: Various type of
interaction between instances and Master slave problems can be
defined and solved
► Analysis types and solutions: Static Stress, Displacements, Eigenvalue
problems, Quasi static, Heat Transfer and thermal analysis.
► Post processing: post viewer enables to view various outputs such as
von-Mises, Principle, Membrane stresses and the Deflections etc.

Meshing Stiffened panel

► Go to Meshing module and creating mesh seeding and give size 10 to

the model

Bureau Veritas Presentation _ Date 19

Meshing Stiffened panel

► Create mesh for the panel model

Bureau Veritas Presentation _ Date 20

Check model for warning and errors

► If found any
errors mesh
seeding shall
be redone by
different
methods
(Edge or part
seeding).
