Introduction
Music is like technology, it has developed a lot in the last one hundred
years. In this project I will introduce the artists and the bands which have
marked the culture of humanity with their songs and personalities. Most of the
new genres of music appeared in the U.S.A. and in the United Kingdom, before
spreading throughout the world. Music has a great impact on people’s way of
getting dressed and acting. They put make-up on, spike their hair, dread it, dye it
and wear black and extra-baggy clothing just to show people what kind of music
they like. Some people get introduced to a certain type of music and it
completely changes their life, the way they dress, act, speak and the people they
hang out with. For example, Elvis Presley’s costumes, or Michael Jackson’s
gloves and military jackets are the symbols of their music and with any occasion
their fans have tried to look like them, wearing that kind of clothes.
The art of making music is like the art of transforming a piece of rock
in a diamond. There are many singers and bands who have contributed to
changes in music in the last years, that’s why people need it, they can choose
from rock to pop or rap, but no matter the genre, they always find the message
they look for.
I will talk about the artists and bands who have changed the industry
of music with their careers. I am sorry I cannot mention all of them, but the time
is limited and so was the life of some of these great legends.

I. The Legends of Music
1.1. Elvis Presley
Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an
American musician and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural
icons of the 20th
century, he is often
referred to as “the
King of Rock and
Roll”, or simply, “the
King”.
Presley
was a central figure in the development of rockabilly, according to music
historians. He’s rise to national attention in 1956 when he transformed the field
of popular music and had a huge effect on the broader scope of popular culture.
As the catalyst for the cultural revolution that was rock and roll, he was central
not only to defining it as a musical genre but in making it a touchstone of youth
culture and rebellious attitude.
“Music should be something that makes you gotta move, inside or outside.”

world.
In June 1978,
Marley was awarded
with the Peace Medal of
the Third World from the
United Nations as the
second man who
received it after Thomas
Jefferson.
The most
famous hits of Bob
Marley: “Redemption Song”, “Three Little Birds”, “Stir It Up”, “Buffalo

preferred to beat box and imitate instruments vocally than use instruments.

Town”, “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky”, “Hurt”, “God's Gonna Cut You Down”,
“Ain’t No Grave”.
The influence of
Armstrong on the development of
jazz is virtually immeasurable. Yet,
his irrepressible personality both as a
performer, and as a public figure later
5
in his career, was so strong that to some it sometimes overshadowed his
contributions as a musician and singer.
The most famous hits of Louis Armstrong: “Hello Dolly”, “West End
Blues”, “What A Wonderful World”.
“If you have to ask what jazz is, you’ll never know.”
Louis Armstrong

2.2. AC/DC
AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973
by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until
Malcolm’s illness and departure in 2014. Commonly referred to as a hard rock

sometimes classified
as such, though they
have always dubbed
their music as simply
“rock and roll”.

label recording groups to have held the same

been praised by critics and fellow musicians
alike for their technical mastery.
Freddie Mercury
John Lennon
Eminem hits:“Lose
Yourself”, “Till I Collapse”, “Rap
God”, “My Name Is”, “The Real Slim
Shady”, “Not Afraid”, “ When I’m
Gone”.

capsule.”
Eminem
Conclusion
These were few of the artists, the bands and members of bands that
embraced solo careers that marked the history of music. No matter what artists
have risen in the musical world, we, the lovers of music, will know and learn
about the kings of every music genre. And those kings will inspire and mark
both our work and of the future musicians.
Music is not just music. It has history, feelings, facts, stories, life
experiences and so on, in its lyrics. It's something memorable that will last
11
throughout the time. And it is something from which we can learn a lot of things
if we listen to it carefully.
