1. SCOPE
The document covers analysis and structural design of solar panel module supporting structural
members at roof of a building located in Vasant Kunj area of Delhi, India.

4. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
There are two types of supporting structure- one is double portrait structure supporting two
rows modules & another structure supporting single row of modules.
In line to above point, two STAAD models have been prepared to analyze and design the
structures.
All the possible load cases and load combinations have been considered for the analysis and
design of structural members.
Model has been created up to base plate level.
Design of members has been done using IS801-WSM. Nodal Deflection result was taken from
the Staad. Vertical deflection limit for horizontal members are restricted to L/180 and
horizontal deflection of columns to H/150 (Ref IS800:2007).
Seismic loads have not been considered in the design as wind loads are governing.

1. DEAD LOAD
i) SELF WT Applied in staad using self wt command
ii) WT OF PANEL W= 22 KG/panel
Width of panel b = 0.997 m (Ref section ‐11)
length of panel l = 1.96 m (Ref section ‐11)
UDL on two purlin w = 0.5W/b
= 11.0 KG/m
WIND LOAD
Design wind pressure Pz = 0.6 x Vz x Vz
= 1073.6 N/m2
= 1.07 KN/m2
2. WIND LOAD ALONG +X DIRECTION (Across Table)
3. WIND LOAD ALONG ‐X DIRECTION (Across Table)
force/m = Cf x w x Pz
0.03 KN/m (Negligible)
4. WIND LOAD ALONG +Z DIRECTION (ALONG Table)
= 1.2 (IS 875‐III table‐7)
Pressure coe on panel for 28 degree = 0.5 x l x pressure coe. X pz
force per purlin = 1.3 KN/m
4. WIND LOAD ALONG ‐Z DIRECTION (ALONG Table)
= ‐1.8 (IS 875‐III table‐26)
Pressure coe on panel for 28 degree = 0.5 x l x pressure coe. X pz
force per purlin = ‐1.9 KN/m
Wind load on Column Cf = 2
width w = 0.12 m
force/m = Cf x w x Pz
0.26 KN/m

**NOTE‐ IF ANY MEMBER HAS A NON‐ZERO BETA ANGLE IN THE CONSTANTS TABLE AND USES THE LOCAL OPTION HERE;
THEN PLEASE Note THAT THIS LOCAL OPTION ALWAYS GENERATES THE OFFSETS BASED ON AN ANGLE OF ZERO
DEGREES (THIS IS A TEMPORARY PSEUDO‐BETA THAT IS NOT USED FOR ANY OTHER CALCULATION).
THE BETA IN THE CONSTANTS TABLE WILL STILL BE USED TO DEFINE THE MEMBER LOCAL COORDINATE SYSTEM.
