1 Reference standard

The Reference standards are American Architectural Manufacturers Association Specification AAMA
501.2-09.

2 Approval procedures
- Set of detailed shop drawings should be submitted and approved by designer.
- Trial Panel should be installed on site or agreed location with agreed scale. This panel should be
installed according to the approval drawings and method statement. Water tightness test according
to the reference standard should be performed by a third party laboratory at the trial panel to evaluate
the property and workmanship of the curtain wall facades or windows.

3 Reception procedure

3.1 Contractor’s Declaration for Installation Work Completion

Before each reception test, the contractor should submit a document declaring that the installation

work of the relevant curtain wall facades or windows has been finished, auto-control checking has

been done and are in condition to be verified on site, as well as the relevant detailed drawings such

as plan view, elevation view and details.

3.2 Selection of testing areas for Water Tightness Reception

The testing areas should be selected satisfying the following conditions:

a) Unless otherwise specified, 10% of the installed elements should be selected for water
tightness reception test by a third party laboratory. The percentage should be based on the
number of elements, length of perimeter or area of the installed location, whichever is the
greatest and applicable.

b) The testing areas should be representative sample(s) of typical construction and shall have no
visible defects.

c) The test area(s) should include perimeter caulking, typical splices, frame intersections, and if
applicable, at least 2 model units in horizontal and vertical direction containing an intermediate
vertical member and an intermediate horizontal member as shown in following figure.

4 Acceptance criteria

 In case of no water leakage found during the tests, the water tightness property of the curtain wall
facades or windows can be considered as acceptable.
 In case of water leakage found, the water tightness property of the curtain wall facades or windows
is considered as not acceptable. The reason of leakage should be identified by the contractor, the
failed areas should be repaired and retested. Two additional identical areas should be selected
and tested until no water leakage found in all tested areas.

Note: For the situation of window to be designed of water entry and drain out, leakage of the curtain
wall facades or windows should be reviewed by the designer.
