REQUIREMENT

1. PURPOSE

1.1. The policy and procedures set forth in this section are established to
give guide lines on how Technical Recurrent Training (TRT) Instructors
are determine how provide classroom training, conducting qualification
examinations, and check out test for technicians who will be quailed to
perform run-up and Taxiing of aircraft.

3.2. Technical Recurrent Training Instructors under Aviation Maintenance


Training Department.

4. POLICY

4.1. Only authorized Technician shall perform engine run-up and/or taxiing
of Ethiopian and Customer aircraft.

4.2. Such authorization shall be limited to an aircraft on which technician has


been trained and demonstrated his proficiency.

4.3. Employee should Attend classroom and simulator or on aircraft training


as applicable and successfully demonstrate knowledge and ability to
perform run- up and/or taxiing procedures published in the applicable
aircraft maintenance manual.

4.4. Taxiing of an aircraft by maintenance personnel is not normally desirable.


However, if circumstances dictate, either Director A/C Base Maintenance,
Director Line Maintenance, Manager Line & Dispatch Maintenance Addis
Ababa, Manager MCC & Outstations, Manager Aircraft Maintenance or
their designees may taxi an aircraft for maintenance purposes provided
they are holders of current run-up authorization card.

4.5. Either Director A/C Base Maintenance or Director Line Maintenance, or


Manager Line Maintenance or Manager MCC & Outstations, or
Supervisors or Maintenance Team leader could taxi B707, B737, B727,
B757, B767, F-50, MD-11, Q400 and B777-200LR aircraft.Either Director
A/C Base Maintenance or Director Line Maintenance, or Manager Line
Maintenance or Manager MCC & Outstations, or Manager Hangar
Maintenance, or Supervisor Aircraft Maintenance, or Team leader
Aircraft may perform run-up on Either Director A/C Base Maintenance or
Director Line Maintenance, or Manager Line Maintenance or Manager MCC
O/S, or Manager Hangar Maintenance, or Supervisor Aircraft.
Maintenance,or Team leader A/C Maintenance may perform Run-up on:
B767,F-50, MD-11,Q400 and B777-200LR, B70 B737, B727, B757 ,
aircrafts

4.6. Either Director A/C Base Maintenance, or Director Line Maintenance or


Manager Line Maintenance, or Manager MCC & Outstations, or Manager
Hangar Maintenance or Maintenance Supervisors or Maintenance Team

leader or Sr. Aircraft Maintenance Technicians may run-up and/or taxi


Turbo Prop Engines of aircraft (DHC-6 and Foker-50).

4.7. Flight Technicians may perform run-up if and only if they encounter
problems out of Addis Ababa Station.

5. DEFINITION

6. RESPONSIBILITY

6.1. It is the responsibility of the process owner (Director Base/Line


Maintenance) to:

6.1.1. Implement the procedure

6.1.2. Define KPIs to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the


process

6.1.3. Follow up and if necessary revise the procedure

6.1.4. Give delegation for A/C Taxing.

6.2. It is the responsibility of Head AMT to:

6.2.1. Provide classroom training and conducting qualification examinations

6.3. It is the responsibility of Manager MOCC & O/S to:

6.3.1. Keep roster of those who qualify for A/C Run-up and Taxing.

6.4. It is the responsibility of qualified Technician to:

REQUIREMENT

6.4.1. Qualify himself and get ratings & run up of A/C on which he is trained
on.

6.4.2. Failure to qualify within 30 days after the specified period will void
the qualification.

7. PROCEDURES

7.1. Train to qualify employee: Head AMT

7.1.1. Plan and give different types of trainings as necessary to qualify


Technicians and give exam to award certificate.

7.1.2. Make a yearly review of employees qualified to perform run-up and


taxiing.

7.2. Possess ratings: Qualified Technician.

7.2.1. Take system course training on the specific aircraft, engines and
their components.

7.2.2. Take exam and possess Airframe & Power Plant License and
applicable ratings

7.3. Possess run up card: Qualified Technician.

7.3.1. Fill out evaluation form (prepared by TRT) and have it approved by
his Supervisor/Manager and Director of Aircraft Maintenance.

7.3.2. Qualify yourself and get valid run-up authorization card from
Technical Recurrent Training Department.

7.4. Are License and run up cards renewed? Qualified Technician

7.4.1. Are license and run-up cards renewed?

7.4.2. If YES go to 7.5

7.4.3. If NO go to 7.6

7.5. Keep license and run up renewed: Qualified Technician

7.5.1. Keep License and run-up renewed as it is individual’s responsibility


to see that his review date is not exceeded.

7.5.2. Renew within one month of the review date.

7.6. Apply to T.R.T : Qualified Technician.

7.6.1. Renew as per the procedure. Fill out evaluation form (prepared by
TRT) and have it approved by your Supervisor/Manager and Director
of Aircraft Maintenance.

7.7. Issue run up card and renew: Head AMT (T.R.T).

7.7.1. Issue qualification card only for those who are qualified to run-up
and/or taxi aircraft indicating qualification by each aircraft type.

7.8. Keep roster : Head AMT.

7.8.1. Keep and maintain a roster of qualified personnel at all times.

all times.

7.10. Give delegation to taxi A/C: Director Base and Line

7.10.1. Make sure that the person to be delegated for Taxing an A/C is
rated and highly experienced on the particular A/C.

7.11. Keep roster: Head AMT

7.11.1. Keep and maintain roster of qualified and delegated persons of


A/C Taxing.
