Calculate the CGPA for the subjects from the grades as mentioned in Table 1:
Serial Courses: Credit Grade Achieved
Number Hours
1. Business Analytics 3 B
2. Organization Behavior 3 C+
3. Pakistan Studies 2 B+
4. Business Communication 2 B+

The corresponding GPA for grades are:
A = 4.0 , B+ = 3.5 , B = 3.0 , C+ = 2.5 , C = 2.0 , F = 0.0

Question Number 03: [04 Marks]

According to the research conducted by the geologists of University of Texas, the temperatures
of soil in 0C at 750 meters deep inside the ground on different locations of earth are mentioned
below:
68.4 72.3 58.7 48.3 53.8 73.2 37.9 55.4 42.7 84.6 67.4 58.5 92.4 62.5 87.8
Calculate:
(i) Arithmetic Mean
(ii) Harmonic Mean
(iii) Geometric Mean
(iv) Root Mean Squares

Solution:

1) arithmetic mean is calculated by summing all the observations and dividing by number of
observations

Number of observations, n = 15

so AM = 68.4 + 72.3 + 58.7 + 48.3 + 53.8 + 73.2 + 37.9 + 55.4 + 42.7 + 84.6 + 67.4 + 58.5 + 92.4 +
62.5 + 87.8 / 15 = 963.9/15 = 64.26
2) Harmonic mean is calculated by dividing the number of observations with the sum of reciprocal of
each observation

so HM = 15 / (1/68.4 + 1/72.3 + 1/58.7 + 1/48.3 + 1/53.8 + 1/73.2 + 1/37.9 + 1/55.4 + 1/42.7 + 1/84.6
+ 1/67.4 + 1/58.5 + 1/92.4 + 1/62.5 + 1/87.8) = 60.42
3) Geometric mean is calculated by multiplying all the numbers and then taking the nth root of the
product where n = number of observations

so GM

= 62.35
4) Root mean squares is calculated by summing the squares of the numbers and then taking the
square root.

So RMS

= 66.10

a) What is the class size of each class interval?

b) Which class interval has the highest frequency?
c) Find the class marks of all the class intervals?
d) What is the lower limit of fourth class interval?

Solution:
a)
Class size = Upper limit - Lower limit

Class size = 35 - 30

Class size = 5
b)

class interval ( 40 - 45 ) have highest frequency of 14

c)

35-40 13 37.5

40-45 14 42.5

45-50 4 47.5

50-55 3 52.5
d)

for fourth class ( 45 - 50 )

Lower limit = 45

Upper limit = 50

lower limit of fourth class interval is =  45
