Question Number 02: [04 Marks]
Calculate the CGPA for the subjects from the grades as mentioned in Table 1:
Serial Courses: Credit Grade Achieved
Number Hours
1. Business Analytics 3 B
2. Organization Behavior 3 C+
3. Pakistan Studies 2 B+
4. Business Communication 2 B+
5. Cost Accounting 3 C+
6. Probability & Statistics 3 C
7. SPSS Lab. 1 A
Table 1.
The corresponding GPA for grades are:
A = 4.0 , B+ = 3.5 , B = 3.0 , C+ = 2.5 , C = 2.0 , F = 0.0
Solution:
1) arithmetic mean is calculated by summing all the observations and dividing by number of
observations
Number of observations, n = 15
so AM = 68.4 + 72.3 + 58.7 + 48.3 + 53.8 + 73.2 + 37.9 + 55.4 + 42.7 + 84.6 + 67.4 + 58.5 + 92.4 +
62.5 + 87.8 / 15 = 963.9/15 = 64.26
2) Harmonic mean is calculated by dividing the number of observations with the sum of reciprocal of
each observation
so HM = 15 / (1/68.4 + 1/72.3 + 1/58.7 + 1/48.3 + 1/53.8 + 1/73.2 + 1/37.9 + 1/55.4 + 1/42.7 + 1/84.6
+ 1/67.4 + 1/58.5 + 1/92.4 + 1/62.5 + 1/87.8) = 60.42
3) Geometric mean is calculated by multiplying all the numbers and then taking the nth root of the
product where n = number of observations
so GM
=
= 62.35
4) Root mean squares is calculated by summing the squares of the numbers and then taking the
square root.
So RMS
=
= 66.10
Following data reveals the usage of units of electricity by different consumers of a certain area:
Table 2.
The frequency distribution of number of plants in laws of 40 different houses in a posh locality is
given in Table 3.
Number of Plants 30 - 35 35 - 40 40 - 45 45 - 50 50 - 55
Frequency 6 13 14 4 3
Table 3.
Solution:
a)
Class size = Upper limit - Lower limit
Class size = 35 - 30
Class size = 5
b)

30-35 6 32.5
35-40 13 37.5
40-45 14 42.5
45-50 4 47.5
50-55 3 52.5
d)
Lower limit = 45
Upper limit = 50
