Scour Depth Calculations: As Per Clause 8.5.2 of I.S. 7784 (Part-I) 1993

The document calculates scour depth for a river discharge of 1,200,000 cubic seconds based on established formulas. It determines the normal scour depth would be 4.874 meters and the maximum scour depth on the upstream side would be 6.093 meters. Based on these calculations, it recommends the upstream cutoff level should be set at 20.750 meters.

SCOUR DEPTH CALCULATIONS

Discharge in River 1200000 Cusecs

Maximum diacharge = 33980.9 Cumecs
Bed width of approach canal = 4045 m
Discharge per unit width 'q' = 33980.857450303 / 4045
= 8.401 Cumecs/met
As per Clause 8.5.2 of I.S. 7784 (Part-I) 1993
Assuming silt factor 'f' = 1.5
Normal scour depth = R = 1.35 x (q2 / f)1/3 = 1.35 x (8.401² / 1.5)^(1/3)
R = 4.874 m

Maximum scour depth on U / S side = 1.25 x R

= 1.25 x 4.874
= 6.093 m

F T L on U/S side = 31.3

Up stream cut off level = 31.3 - 6.093

= 25.207
There fore provide U / S cut off level = 20.750
