Internship Title: Community Pharmacist

Company / Organization Name: ‫صيدليات مؤنس‬

Introduction: Pharmacists have various and multiple fields and pathways to choose as their main study and
work. For example, they can work in medical laboratories for analysis, work as a medical representative for the
different pharmaceutical companies available, work in the drug making field itself such as quality control or
quality assurance or supply chains and finally they could work in pharmacies as community pharmacists.
Working in pharmacies is the most common field that is chosen to be pursued by most pharmacists and it is in
my opinion the most important one for a pharmacist to go through in his career to gain more knowledge of
drugs and medicines available in the market and get to deal with the patients firsthand more often which
expands on the already existing knowledge of the pharmacist a lot more so he can be able to have enough data
and experience with his field and the commonly used medicines and so on.

Company / Organization Description: Mo2nes pharmacies are well renowned pharmacies that exist in
different parts in Egypt. They are available in Nasr city, First settlement and the 5th settlement. They are one of
the few pharmacies that start distributing Covid tests at home for patients. They have been around for years and
they have their own hotline for deliveries all around Egypt. They are also one of the few pharmacies that have
their own website: https://www.mo2nes.com. The owner of these pharmacies is a highly respected Doctor
known as Dr. Mahmoud mounes that works in the management of the international school of elite education in
the 5th settlement.

Internship Performed Tasks: The internship lasted for around 9 weeks and I was given the task to deal with
incoming patients in a specific manner where I ask first if they come with a prescription from a doctor or are
they requesting an over the counter medication. Depending on their answer of the first question my task would
differ. For example, if they come with a prescription, I was supposed to make sure the prescription is valid and
check the medications prescribed and how the correlate to the complains of the patient and if they make sense, I
sell them the medication. On the other hand, if they were asking for an over the counter medication, I would
need to check out what their chief complaint was and recommend a medicine depending on the issue or see if
they are requesting a specific medication that they are familiar with.

Internship Evaluation: This internship gained me a lot of skills and knowledge that I am very grateful to
gain. I learned how to communicate effectively with patients from different educational background and how to
gain the information I need from them I also gained a lot of knowledge of the common medicines available in
the market either over the market or prescribed. I was also informed of the how most people refer to
medications at the street in the common language and not the scientific one. This internship met my
expectations greatly and benefited from it a lot. The internship opened my eyes on how pharmacies are
managed which hopefully will help me in the future manage my own. The pharmaceutical chemistry and
pharmacology courses I was given in the university helped me a lot with knowing about the medications and
what they were made of and how the work on the body which helped me inform the patients a lot about their
medicines.

Conclusion: Going through this internship helped me realize many things of how pharmacies are managed
that I didn't know about and also how they use their system to keep track of the medicines given out and how
many are left and so on. This internship also helped me know a lot about the different trade names and
generic names of the different medicines and which are more requested by the patients and which are less
common. I am hopefully going to hold on to as many of this information as possible to pursue my own
dreams of managing a pharmacy of my own and work in one of the well renowned pharmaceutical
companies.
Please rate your satisfaction with the internship experience.
