General
It's important that cables in a machine are purpose-dimensioned and routed in a correct manner. To facilitate identification and
troubleshooting of cables, it's also important to be able to identify separate cables using colours, for example. The following are
important points to consider when changing or splicing (joining) a cable:

Ÿ That conductor area is correct.

Ÿ That interference protection for cables that transmit signals, for example, between control units, is intact.
Ÿ That cable colours are retained.
Ÿ That cables are routed so that they are protected from mechanical damage.

When changing or repairing a cable, the wiring diagram in service manual section 3 grp 370 is very useful.
NOTE!
When changing a cable, always use the same type of cable as the original cable; that is, the correct length, insulation, conductor
area and, preferably, also the same colour.

Conductor area
It's important that the conductor area is at least as big after a repair as before, since the cable's capacity to transmit current
depends on the area.
If wiring diagrams in the service manual, section 3, do not give information about the area of a cable, it can be estimated by
measuring the diameter of the stripped part with sliding calipers.
Then, read off the table for approximate estimation of the conductor area.

Figure 1

NOTE!
Conductor area and diameter always refer to the cable's metallic wires.

Diameter (mm) Conductor area (mm2)

0,6 0,3
0,8 0,5
1,0 0,75
1,1 1,0
1,4 1,5
1,8 2,5
2,3 4,0

Cable colour
Select the same colour as on the original cable, only in exceptional cases should another colour be used. In wiring diagrams,
there is often information about cable colours. For interpreting colour codes, see table.
Cables with two colours
If the colour code for a cable consists of two colours, it is designated as follows:
Y/R is read Yellow/Red, that is, the cable has a yellow insulating casing with a red stripe.

Colour Abbreviation
Black SB
Brown BN
Red R
Orange OR
Yellow Y
Green GN
Blue BL
Violet VO
Grey GR
White W
Pink P
Ivory I
Light blue LBL
Light brown LBN

Cable routing
When installing a new cable, it should follow the routing of the original cable, and the cable should be secured in the same way.
The cable should be routed so that there's no risk of mechanical damage. Do not leave sharp cable tie edges protruding. The
cable should be at least as long as the original cable.
