Imran Ali 021 Chapter One Exercise

The document provides answers to 5 questions about space and astronomical phenomena. It defines a galaxy as a collection of gas, dust, stars, and solar systems held together by gravity. It states that over 500 solar systems have been discovered so far in the Milky Way galaxy, with estimates of tens of billions total. Regarding eclipses, it notes there is no proven physical effect on humans but possible psychological effects. It explains that the Earth's revolution around the Sun causes seasons, and its rotation causes days and nights. Finally, it defines a lunar calendar as being based on the monthly lunar cycle rather than the solar year.

IMRAN ALI 021

CHAPTER ONE EXERCISE

EXERCISE NO 1

1. What is a galaxy?

A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and

their solar systems, all held together by gravity. We live on a planet

called Earth that is part of our solar system.

2. How many solar systems are there is the universe?

So far, astronomers have found more than 500 solar systems and

are discovering new ones every year. Given how many they have

found in our own neighborhood of the Milky Way galaxy, scientists

estimate that there may be tens of billions of solar systems in our

galaxy, perhaps even as many as 100 billion.

3. Find out the effects of eclipse on the earth and on the human beings?
According to NASA, there is no evidence yet that proves

lunar eclipse has any physical effect on the human body. But

lunar eclipse does lead to some psychological effects because of

people's belief and actions. This psychological effect may lead to

some physical effects as well.

4. How are the season caused?

The earth’s movement on its orbit, which causes seasons is called

‘revolution’ and its movement on its axis which causes days and

nights is called ‘rotation’.

5. What is lunar calendar?

A lunar calendar is a calendar based on the monthly cycles of the

Moon's phases, in contrast to solar calendars, whose annual cycles

are based only directly on the solar year.
