DHL Global Forwarding faces challenges in consolidating air freight shipments from various clients. Their manager Datta must choose from options like maintaining the status quo, implementing an optimization model, or outsourcing consolidation. Currently DGF uses a manual process to consolidate shipments on a weekly basis. Students are tasked with creating an integer programming model to formulate the freight forwarding problem with decision variables, objective function, and constraints to solve using Excel Solver. The solution must then be analyzed and risks/challenges of the proposed shipment schedule must be identified.
