FEATURES
The Parveen coiled tubing Side Loading Stripper/Packer is designed for use with injectors
built by various manufactures. The significant single feature of the Parveen Side Loading
Stripper/Packer is that it offers field replacement of the Interlock Packer, Non- Extrusion
Ring, and Bushing(s) below the injector and with tubing in the well.
Additional features of this Stripper/Packer include :
1. The Union Sub and Nut are field interchangeable.
2. The Union Nut can be ‘latched’ up while stabbing the Union Sub into the BOP
Union.
3. Customer option items 53 and 54 are available to provide optimum tubing column
support with tubing sizes 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, and 1.75.
4. Unique 3 - point Tie Rod arrangement provides significantly greater working space
within the side Loading door clearance opening for enhanced field replacement of
the vital sealing components and bushings.
5. Piston “Close” and “Open” ports are 1/4" NPT and both are located below the door
clearance opening.
6. Rod Wiper in the critical Energizer Piston Gland Bushing keeps well “trash” from
damaging these dynamic seals.
7. Key components are 17-4 PH stainless steel for optimum strength and corrosion
resistance. These items are: Door, Lock Flange, Detent Pin, Energizer Piston, and
the Tie Rods.
8. Below - the door Energizer Piston arrangement does not move the critical upper
tubing bushings. This unique arrangement provides continuous,non-changing tubing
column support.
9. Convenient 1/4 NPT Gauge/Injection Port.
10. Interlock Packer and Non - Extrusion Ring are interchangeable with competitors.
Various materials are available to suit specific well/service conditions.
11 Glass - filled teflon Non - Extrusion Ring provides optimum Interlock Packer support/
reliability.

MATERIALS
This equipment is designed and manufactured to applicable API and NACE Specs. This
equipment is also optionally available with certification to ISO Standards.
OPERATION
This Stripper/Packer is used as a stuffing box to seal off well pressure while running/
pulling coiled tubing on live wells. Pack - off of the packing element (Interlock Packer,
item 50) is accomplished by applying hydraulic control pressure to the “PISTON CLOSE”
port. Venting this closing pressure allows the packing element to relax. Since the pack -
off is well pressure assisted, no standard operating pressures can be given. The minimum
pack - off or “PISTON CLOSE” pressure that will achieve a seal should be used to prevent
undue wear to the packing element.
Applying hydraulic control pressure to the “PISTON OPEN” port retracts the Energizer
Piston (11). It will not normally be required to pressurize this port except when changing
the Interlock Packer, etc.
To change packer elements, be sure the last tubing travel through the Stripper/Packer is
in the “run in” direction, or downward. If the Stripper/Packer is in service on the wellhead,
close the BOP then vent all hydraulic control pressure and well pressure. Grip the Torque
Knob (29) and raise up to disengage the Detent Pin (9) from the Lower Housing (10).
With the Detent Pin disengaged, simultaneously rotate the Lock Flange (7) using an
adjustable wrench engaged with the tang of the Detent Pin Holder (8). Rotate the Lock
Flange toward the open detent pin engagement hole in the Lower Housing, i.e. counter
clockwise. The Lock Flange will be properly oriented (unlocked) when the Detent Pin
engages the previously open hole in the Lower Housing.Amount of angular rotation is 45
degrees.
Apply hydraulic control pressure to the “DOOR OPEN port until the Door (2) is fully up,
or open. The Interlock Packer (50), the Non-Extrusion Ring (51), and the Back - up Tubing
Bushing (6) are visible/accessable after the Door is fully open. First remove the Non -
Extrusion Ring then the Interlock Packer by pulling the individual pieces (two) outwardly
away from the tubing.
To remove/replace the Back - up Tubing Bushing (6) remove the six half dog set screws
(26) using a 1/8" hex key. Be sure to put these small items in a safe location to prevent
loss. Using a wide blade screwdriver or similar thin, flat device, pry the Back - up Tubing
Bushing down until its connecting joint with the Middle Tubing Bushing (5) is visible

within the door clearance opening. Remove the Back - up Tubing Bushing by pulling the
individual pieces (two) outwardly away from the tubing.
To remove/replace the Lower Tubing Bushing (15) use a wide blade screwdriver or similar
thin, flat device, to pry the individual pieces (2) of the Lower Tubing Bushing up until
completely visible within the door clearance opening. Remove the Lower Tubing Bushing
by pulling each individual piece outwardly away from the tubing.
Install replacement components in reverse order per the above description. Tighten the
half dog set screws (26) hand tight (snug) only. Though this sequence is described to be
done “in the field” it is prudent to apply loc-tite to the set screw threads to prevent them
from backing out which will cause physical damage to the Door (2).
Apply hydraulic control pressure to the “DOOR CLOSE” port until the lower edge of the
Door (2) is completely down against the Lower Housing (10). Grip the Torque Knob (29)
and raise up to disengage the Detent Pin (9) from the Lower Housing. With the Detent
Pin disengaged, simultaneously rotate the Lock Flange (7) using an adjustable wrench
engaged with the tang of the Detent Pin Holder (8). Rotate the Lock Flange toward the
open detent pin engagement hole in the Lower Housing, i.e. clockwise. The Lock Flange
will be properly oriented (locked) when the Detent Pin engages the previously open hole
in the Lower Housing.

FUNCTIONAL TESTS
Close or plug the “GAUGE/INJECTION” port. Fit a union box blanking plug to the bottom
of the Stripper/Packer assembly. Connect hydraulic control pressure to the “PISTON
CLOSE” port which will be used to energize the packing element.
Insert a test rod through the Stripper/Packer from the bottom,or Union Sub end.The test
rod shall be a solid steel rod 3 feet long and the same diameter as the tubing for which the
Stripper/Packer is dressed. The lower end of the test rod shall be fitted with a steel “do -
nut” 2.75" diameter. This “do - nut” will pass through the Union Sub (14) and shoulder
against the Lower Tubing Bushing (15).
Stand the Stripper/Packer upright and fill with test fluid through the union box blanking
plug. Air is automatically bled from the system through the open packing element. Once
the assembly is filled apply hydraulic pack - off pressure to the “PISTON CLOSE” port.
Next apply test pressure (through the blanking plug’s port) and hold for 15 minutes. No
leakage should occur. Note : This is a good time to experiment with various pack - off
pressures to develop a “feel” for the packing element operating characteristics.
CAUTION : During any hydrostatic testing, the test rod should be aimed at a containing
wall. Should the “do - nut” shear off the rod, the rod will become a dangerous projectile!!!
Bleed the test pressure then the hydraulic pack - off pressure. Remove the union box
blanking plug and the test rod.
The Stripper/Packer has now been both functionally and hydrostatically tested. Return
to operations. If storing for an extended period of time following testing, the hydrostatic
test fluid should be inhibited. Inhibited ethylene glycol (anti - freeze) is a suitable test
fluid.
Record all testing in a maintenance log. A chart recorder should be used to record the
pressure/duration of the hydrostatic and hydraulic control pressures.

MAINTENANCE
Frequency of scheduled maintenance will vary with the time and type of service and the
frequency of use. We recommend the following minimum maintenance routine be adhered
to :
Note : It is assumed that all parts and seals will be cleaned, inspected, and coated with
a light grease, inhibitor, oil, or hydraulic fluid prior to installation of new seals or
reassembly of parts. Any lubricant used must be compatable with the hydraulic control
fluid.
ANNUALLY
Completely disassemble the Stripper/Packer, replace all seals, and functional/hydrostatic
test as follows:
1. Remove the Stripper/Packer from the injector.
2. Remove all internal pack - off parts and tubing bushings as in “OPERATION”.
Inspect all components for wear and/or damage. Replace as necessary.
3. Remove the Union Sub (14) from the Lower Housing (10). Remove the Energizer
Piston Gland Bushing (12) and the Energizer Piston (11) simultaneously by carefully
pushing the Energizer Piston out of the open and (bottom) of the Lower Housing.
4. Remove tbe Lock Flange (7) by removing the four SHCS’s (27). Remove the Protector
(16) or the Extension Retainer (54), whichever is currently in place atop the Stripper/
Packer Bushing Housing (1). Remove the three set screws (52) then remove the
Bushing Housing from the Upper Housing (3). The Door (2) can now be removed.
Note : It is not normally required or desireable to remove the Tie Roads (47).
5. Replace all O - Rings, Back - up Rings, and Wiper Rings. Item numbers are: 17, 18,
19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 35, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46. Note : Inspect
the Energizer Piston Gland Bushing (12) and replace if required. This item does not
