1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this specification is to provide the minimum requirements for the
installation, inspection & testing, of storm sewers and culverts with the necessary
fittings, manholes, inlets, catch basins, headwalls & paved ditches appurtenances.
2 SCOPE
This specification outlines the requirements for the furnishing, installation, inspection
and testing of Clean Water (non-oily) Storm Sewer (CSS) and culverts. Sanitary Sewer
(SAN), Oily Sewer (OWS) and Accidentally Oil Contaminated Sewer (AOC) systems
are covered in DRP001-OUF-SPE-C-000-008.

5 DEFINITIONS OF TERMINOLOGY
EPC Contractor Joint Venture of Petrofac International and Samsung
Engineering Co. Ltd.
Materials used are to be inspected & approved as per the requirements of the materials
specification.
7 FUNCTION
Clean Storm Water Sewer System (CSS): Collects clean unpolluted storm water
from non- process unit areas, un-contaminated tank bund floors, tank-roofs, building
roofs, unpaved/ gravelled areas, car parks, plant roads and road shoulders.
8 DESIGN
Criteria for design of the Clean Storm Water Sewer System (CSS) are provided
within the Civil Engineering Design Criteria DRP001-OUF-SPE-C-000-001.
9 MATERIALS
9.1 Pipe
Piping material for the CSS system shall generally be spigot and socket jointed ‘High
Density Polyethylene’ (HDPE).
All materials used, are to be inspected and approved as per the requirements of the
relevant listed ASTM specification.
9.3.1 Materials
The minimum apparent specific gravity of the stone material will be 2.5 and the
maximum absorption shall be 6% when tested in accordance with AASHTO T 85.
The stone will have an abrasion loss not greater than 45% then tested in accordance
with AASHTO T 96.
9.3.2 Construction
The stone shall be wetted and hand-laid with the flattest face uppermost and parallel
to the prepared slope, starting from the toe and progressing upwards. Stones shall
be arranged in close contact so as to minimize voids, the largest being placed in the
lower courses. Spaces between large stones shall be filled with smaller stones of
suitable size. The surface of the riprap protection shall be trimmed and prepared as
shown on the Drawings.
The stones shall be properly selected and places so as to minimized voids which
shall be filled with pieces of the largest possible size.
After completion and approval of the loose riprap placement, the surface voids of the
riprap in the footing trench and on the lower portions of the slope shall be filled with
excavated material, compacted to 95% max. dry density and dressed to the
satisfaction of the Engineer.
Manhole diameters shall reflect the various pipe sizes and number of inlets and shall
meet local plus international regulations.
All manholes and catch basins shall have sealed joints, pipe inlets, pipe outlets and
shall be of watertight construction.
Testing for manholes and catch basins shall be in accordance with Clause 13 of
Drainage Material and Workmanship DRP001-OUF-SPE-C-000-008.
Bases for catch basins and manholes shall be 150mm minimum thickness cast in-
place concrete.
Manholes requiring step iron access shall have a 150mm minimum thickness cast in-
place concrete surround.
The EPC Contractor shall specify gratings for drainage systems, commensurate with
project loading criteria for their location.
Gratings and frames for catch basins may be of either grey or ductile iron castings in
accordance with ASTM A48.
Material: Manhole frames and covers shall be grey or ductile iron castings in
accordance with ASTM A48. Manhole step irons may be castings or bent steel rod.
Steps shall be plastic encapsulated or galvanised to protect from corrosion.
For the design traffic loading, refer to the Clause 14 of Civil Engineering Design
Criteria, DRP001-OUF-SPE-C-000-001.
All drainage structures and pits to be of watertight construction, with sealed joints,
pipe inlets and pipe outlets.
12 SUB-SOIL DRAINS
Sub-drains shall be slotted or perforated HDPE pipe as specified on the contract
drawings. Bedding, backfill and filter material shall be as per manufacturer’s
recommendation and Typical Drawing of Pipe Bedding and Backfilling DRP001-
OUF-000010-C-CVL-515.
13 SAFETY
The EPC Contractor shall establish a safety procedure that includes but is not limited
to the handling, shipping and storage of contract materials present onsite as well as
maintaining all necessary documentation/material data specifications of contract
materials containing known hazardous or toxic substances. (Refer to theDRP001-
OUF-PHD-T-000-006-001 Design Safety Philosophy)
14 CONSTRUCTION EXECUTION
The EPC Contractor shall produce a specification, procedure and drawings for the
construction and installation of all constituent parts of the Clean Storm Water Sewer
system for Company approval prior to commencement of the Work.
The pipe jointing process used is to be in accordance with Pipe Class Service Index
