Hello,
Next summer i want to get new tires for my 1995 F250
2 wheel drive. I want to get taller and wider tires with a
good tread. I.want something that will do pretty good off
road but wont be terrable on the raod. I will be putting a
limited slip on it. It has the ZF 5 trans and 4.10 diff so
im not worried about the truck not being able to handle
the larger tires. I will be putting a leveling kit in the front
and will shim the front bumber to make the clerance.
So my question is with what i will be doing, what are
some good tires for what im looking for? What are the
largest tires that i can put on that i wont have to worrie
about rubbing? Will i need new rims for the tires? Also
it being a 2 wheel drive, i do see people putting more
off road tires on the rear and put more road/less off
road tires in the front. Are there better advantages
doing this way? Also i wont be using this set up in the
winter, i have a set of great blizzaks for winter.
Thanks, any information will help!

My 93 F250 has 265/75R16 They fill the wheelwells
nicely and no rubbing or interference at all.

265/75R16 is wider than the stock 238/85R16 but the

same height. A lot of people swap out to these. On a
2wd you can go a little taller, like a 285/75R16 but
much more and you'll start having fender rub.
Go with just about anything Toyo or Yokohama has,
both make great tires. I have had good luck with
Bridgestone in the past as well, YMMV.

i have the 300 inline 6. its a 250 HD so i have the 250

frame with the 350 drive train. this truck is very low
geared so it would also be nice to have larger tires that
make it cruise a bit better

Larger diameter tires will only make your engine work

harder, because they have a higher rotational inertia. If
your goal is to lower your cruise rpm, switch to a taller
rear gear. 3.55s were offered from the factory, and the
300 can handle that fine. 3.73s are a good compromise
if you tow.

well the main goal is not to lower the cruise rpm, it

would be nice but id rather have some larger tires
without doing a lift kit. i do like how low geared it is
untell i hit 75 mph because im running around 2600
rpm but it doesn't bother me to much. im thinking
around a 33 in tire that is as wide as my 265/75 or even
a little wider. i like to Toyo open country M/T 305/70r16.
im thinking these on the rear and a less
aggressive(cheaper) tire on the front. anyone have
experience with the Toyo open country M/T?

If you run that size tire expect your mileage to drop

badly, plus not sure they will fit without a lift or fender
surgery. A friend had a 94 250 4wd with 285/75r16s
and that was cutting it close, and those are about 33".
Almost certainly will have a 305/70r16 rubbing the
radius arm on a 2wd before you hit full lock in a turn,
they are almost an inch wider than the 285s.

so without doing anything to extensive, im looking in

the 265/75r16 to the 285/75r16 range? how much
would this kill my millage? what if i were to put a less
aggresive tire on like the Toyo open country A/T II?

My 2002 F250 has never been lifted. The suspension is
still great. Now it's time for new tires. I currently have
265/75/16 on them. I want to go 285/70/16 mud or AT.
Does anyone have any pointers?

Nitto's trail grapplers . Had mine for about 5 years, hard
years. Best I've ever bought. I had enough tread this
year to sype them .

IPA Please...
Cooper ST Maxx is my choice of tire on my 2000 F250.
Do you foresee any fitment issues with going nearly an
inch wider on the tire?

I have a 2002 F250. Stock height. I went with 285/75R-
16 and have no rubbing issues at all. I have Cooper
AT3's and love them. They are not an aggressive tire
though.

You are limited to a few tires with the 285/70R16 D or
E. The 285/75R16 D or E are a lot more popular with
far more tire choices. I have run 285/75R16s on my
stock height and stock wheel 04' for a while now.
Perfect size tire IMO. As for the tire you have to look
around and see what you like. If you tow much at all
you may want to stay away from a dedicated mud tire
or at least pick one with a larger amount of tread blocks
in the center section of the tire. Few center tread blocks
with big spacing tends to make the truck squirm around
especially when loaded. I know I got a bit of squirm with
my current Cooper S/Ts the first half of their tread life.
The tread is wore down over half way now and they are
more stabil. The majority of people are better suited
with an A/T tire.

running them. Great value for the $

What type of driving does your truck see? That will
ultimately decide your tire.

The reason I went with the 285/75R-16's is that those
tires fit the factory rims, they filled up the wheel
wells/fenders, and I could run less air pressure in them
to help soften up the ride. I have always been a fan of
Cooper Tires myself.

These are the tires I run on my F250, which appears to

be on the same 16" steelies that you have. I mounted
them myself with dyna beads, and when I did I scuffed
up the wheels and painted them with white rustoleum
and satin clear. I actually think the early super duty
steelies look pretty great, and look alot like cragers
when they are painted black/white. Very utilitarian.

Anyways, I went with the D rated tires and they ride

much better then the old E rated firestone transforce
that I replaced. This is the biggest size I would run on a
stock 4x4 250/350. Does not rub at all!

Almost 100 bucks cheaper per tire then the BFG. I think
they are great.

I agree that you are going have a much better selection
in a 285/75R16 tire and also likely get better pricing.
The best A/T tire that I have run is the Toyo Open
Country A/T. It is quiet on the highway, better than it
would appear that it should be in the mud, works great
in snow, and lasts 50k+ miles in my experience. If you
are looking for a more aggressive tire without going all
the way to a M/T tire, the Pro Comp Extreme A/T is
also a good choice although they aren't great in the
snow due to fewer sipes and larger, more rigid tread
blocks. I am currently running the Pro Comps, but my
next set of tires is likely to be either a Toyo A/T or M/T
depending on my needs at that point.

I just put cooper at3 on my 2012 have a 55k tread wear
rating and a lot of tread. I hear many good things about
them as far as wear . Also heard good things about the
toyo at2. With 60k tread wear. Only been a week with
the coopers and went amazing in the snow in 2 wheel
drive.

I'm putting tires on my 350 srw next Saturday. I kinda

stuck between the Toyo's open country AT II or the

between the 2. I'm notBest
