Reflect:
Look at the different regions listed on this map. Think about the physical/human features and how
those differentiate them as separate regions. Write a detailed paragraph explaining two different
regions and specific examples that make them so. Ex: Northern Africa (20 points)
Two regions that are very distinctive and different are North Africa and Southeast Asia.
Southeast Asia is in a jungle, with a very humid and rainy climate, as it is close to the equator.
Southeast Asia is a very swampy environment and has many waterways and related
infrastructure. North Africa is located in the Saharan Desert and has a very hot and dry
climate. In this region, most cities have to be located on rivers, such as the Nile river, as that is
the only place where there is consistent water access. Agriculture is also very different in the
two regions, as in Southeast Asia, rice, corn, palm oil, and fish are among the largest
commodities produced in the region, while Northern Africa produces a large amount of
grapes (for use in wine), sugarcane, tobacco, and rubber.
