The cricket world has seen a lot of world class players in the last decade.

But there are very few

that are considered absolute elite, a term is being used by the pundits and the former cricketers

for describing these elite players and it is called the Fab Four which includes Virat Kohli, Joe

Root, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith. These players have set a certain standard and all other

players are compared with them.

On Pakistan’s recent tour to England, we saw a lot of talk around Babar Azam and how well he

has done since emerging onto the scene of International Cricket. I really enjoy the analysis of

former cricketers like Nasir Hussain, Michael Atherton, Shane Warne and Michael Holding who

usually cover International cricket, especially Test Match Cricket, played in England. The former

England captain Nasir Hussain did a phenomenal piece on Babar Azam during the Test series

and just showed the world how well Babar Azam has done in all three formats. Nasser Hussain

said Babar Azam doesn’t get the name and fame he deserves because he is not the Indian captain

Virat Kohli. He also mentioned about the Fab Four and said the world keeps going on and on

about the Fab Four but it was time they call it Fab Five with Babar Azam in the list.

"If this lad was Virat Kohli, everyone would be talking about it but because it is Babar Azam, no

one is talking about it.

“He’s young, he’s elegant, he’s got all the swagger.

“They keep going on about the ‘Fab Four (Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith, New Zealand’s Kane

Williamson and England captain Joe Root) -- it’s the ‘Fab Five’ and Babar Azam is in that,” said

former England captain Nasser Hussain.

Albeit, to leave a mark on Pakistan cricket is not easy and to get your name painted in the

history, you have to perform and compete with the best, consistently, and for a long period of

time.

To become a national superstar, you have to be in and around the media, your photos on the front

and back pages of newspapers be that coming from a sensational century or a scandalous

incident, featuring in television ads, showing off your new uncanny hairstyles every other month,

and finding yourself to be the hot topic on social media one way or another. Shahid Afridi is the

best example of it. And new players coming through like Shadab Khan and Hassan Ali are

following this model.

The cricket has become so fast with the advent of T20, a mad men game. You have to be

swinging and dashing and all guns blazing to make a name for yourself.

In this aura created by T20 cricket, came this young bloke with a promise to bring back elegance

and grace to Pakistan cricket which has been fading to a noticeable end.
