Many people, especially the millennials, tend to forget about the historical events that happened. But did
you know that some of this given events were not possible in the first place if the application of ICT did not
exist? Yes, ICT. I know for a fact that you guys are quite aware of what ICT is. In relation with this, every
Filipino knows what EDSA revolution is. People know it was about overthrowing the former President
Ferdinand Marcos wherein prayers defeated violence, rosaries conquered guns.  But  most of the Filipinos
only know the obvious details, making the small pieces of the event unnoticed and unremembered.

Overthrowing a political party is not an easy task to do especially if the one trying to be overthrown is a
high ranking official, but it is not impossible. It was proven in 1986, where millions of Filipinos gathered for
one goal and it is to overthrow the cruel dictator Ferdinand Marcos, The Hitler of South Asia. It was quite
amusing to see citizens to be united so much in order to have peace and prosperity in our state. The event
would not be possible if ICT was not used. The assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino was the clutch in
order for the revolution to begin. Although this was banned to be brodcasted by radio centers, there was this
one AM radio who have the guts to give this important information to public and it was Radio Veritas, a 24
hour AM radio station operated by the Roman Catholic Church. It was the device for Cory Aquino, wife of
Ninoy Aquino to mobilize the masses. Also, during a broadcast of Radio Veritas, Cardinal Sin encouraged
the Filipinos to help end the regime of President Marcos. Two million people from different sectors came in
a peaceful rally that took place on EDSA from February 22 to 25, 1986. Without that radio broadcast,
Filipinos woul not have moved into action and Marcos would have continue to rule.

It was a memorable event in the past because it was a nonviolent  movement that oppose dictatorship. No
single shed of blood was seen despite the appearance of tanks and armies.

My Reaction

When the Filipino people came together in solidarity to protest the years of abuse of power and blatant
corruption under the dictatorship of Former President Ferdinand Marcos and his cronies, the whole world
stood in applause. This was a nation that gathered the strength and courage to face the head of the state that
had done everything to consolidate power under his name and prevent the opposition from toppling him.

In that era, gathering the sheer number of people that came to EDSA to partake in the bloodless revolution
was extremely difficult, to say the least. There was little, if any, instant messaging or communication
between the masses. Social media did not exist as a platform for people to spread the word. Even text
messaging did not exist back then. To consolidate the number they needed, Manila Archbishop Jaime
Cardinal Sin appealed to the people through the only available form of ICT to them at the time: Radio
Veritas.
