At The Interior Design Institute (IDI), we offer an online Interior Design Course.

Since our course is provided online, it allows you to study at home, in your own
time and at your own pace.

As online education is now the preferred method of study for many people all
around the world, The Interior Design Institute has developed a unique learning

Not everyone has time to study a 4 year, full-time course at

university. So in 2006, we created the ultimate online course in
interior design.

It caters to those who are on the move, the go-getters who have
a side hustle and the stay at home mums and dads who want to
learn how to renovate their own home or prepare themselves for a

OUR COURSE
Our online course is made up of 12 written modules and 12
knowledge and skill-based assignments.

You have up to 12 months to complete the course with the option to

extend if required.

During this time, you will be educated in all aspects of interior design
by a highly experienced professional interior designer and educator.

Our course is cutting edge and written by some of the best working
interior designers in the industry.

The aim of our course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills
required for a career as a professional interior designer or to excel as
a keen hobbyist.

To help you achieve this, you will be paired with a personal tutor for
the duration of your course who will be there to help you 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week.

To take the Advanced Modules, you will need to enrol

in our Interior Design Course and complete the initial
2 modules before the Advanced Modules will be
available to you. This is to ensure that you have a basic
understanding and knowledge of the design principles
and elements, history and period styles, trends and
iconic designers.

MASTERSERIES
Darren Palmer is a renowned interior designer, author and television
personality. His extensive expertise, combined with his understated
approach to design, has made him a household name, known as a
trusted industry expert.

He has written for many publications, is a judge on an award-

winning television series and has gathered a wealth of knowledge
through a very interesting and diverse career in design.

In partnership with The Interior Design Institute, Darren Palmer has

created 15 high quality videos that align perfectly with the subjects
covered in each of our modules.

The content is totally unique and based on his theory of design. It

has been designed to take your knowledge of each subject to the
next level based and can be purchased at the time of enrolment or
at any point during your journey through the course.

Studying online is easy with IDI!

Our online course has been designed to fit around your lifestyle, not
the other way around.

It is completely self-paced, which means you choose when to study!

We offer 24 hour student support, 7 days a week, every day of the

year and your tutor will guide you closely through each step of the
course, offering personalised and specific constructive criticism on
your submitted work.

If you ever have any questions in relation to your course or

assignments, all you need to do is send your tutor a quick message
via the student website and they will reply with an answer as
soon as they can.

THE AUTHOR
Our course has been written by industry leader, Wende Reid. She is an
internationally recognised architectural, interior and furniture designer and a
fine art consultant. Through this course, Wende shares her years of knowledge
and expertise to help you excel at what you love and develop a keen eye for
planning and producing your very own interior designs.

Wende has held licensing agreements in the US and Europe under her
company, Form and Colour and other trademarks. She has developed
numerous bestselling collections in decorative textiles, wall paper, bed linen,
rugs, lighting, dinnerware and flatware. Her work has been featured in highly
prestigious stores, residences, five star hotels, five star resorts and international
sporting events. You can read about her in publications in New York, London,
Paris, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne and the sovereign nation of Kiribati.

She has also been commissioned to develop designs for dignitaries and royalty.
Along with this impressive list of accomplishments, Wende founded in-house
product development for the home furnishings at the Federated Department
Stores. In the US, Wende developed the early framework on which
coordinated home furnishings collections are based, such as Ralph Lauren
and Martha Stewart.

VICKI MULLINS WENDI SNYDER JASMINE ABEL

Vicki is excited to share her wealth of knowledge gained from her diverse background in graphic design and interior
design with the students of The Interior Design Institute. As a teacher of interior design with Melbourne Polytechnic,
TAFE and The Interior Design Institute, she has a broad experience teaching and mentoring students to help them
achieve their study goals in interior design.

Wendi had a 25 year career in theatre working in costume and set design, which took her around the world where she
educated herself in architecture and interior design. During this time, Wendi qualified with a real estate license and
worked on many interior design projects for theatrical personalities. Along with buying and selling property, and staging
homes for sale, she established Wendi Anne Snyder Interiors.

Jasmine has a Diploma in interior design and decoration, as well as over 10 years of experience in the design industry
in Australia and the United States. She is currently the social media manager and creative director at The Interior Design
Institute. Together with Vicki and Wendi, she has compiled and designed the course modules and is passionate about
helping students excel in the design industry.

 FAQS
How long do I have to complete the course?
The course is designed to be self-paced. Normally, you would expect to be dedicating on average about 4-6 hours per week for 24 weeks.
However, many students take up to one year to complete their studies because of family or work commitments.

How do I communicate with my tutor?

You can contact your tutor at any time through our secure student site, which you will gain access to once you enrol. Your tutor’s role is to
assess your assignments and provide you with feedback. They are also available to answer any questions you may have about the course.

Do I have to attend any classes?

No. The course is completed online. This means there are no classes to attend. You can study in your own time and at your own pace.

Do I have to have a background in interior design?

No. The course is designed to allow for students who have had little or no experience in interior design.

When can I start?

As the course is provided online, you have the flexibility to start when and where suits you. If you enrolled today, for example, you
could start straight away.

What if I need more time?

If you need more time, you can purchase one of our affordable extensions. We currently offer 3, 6 and 12 month extensions.
Alternatively, you can purchase an Advanced Module, which will come with a 6 month extension.

Will I be able to chat with other students?

Yes. We have a dedicated student Facebook group with over 22k active members. This group allows you to connect with other
like-minded designers where you can discuss your assignments, the course and all things design.

Can I purchase the Advanced Modules as a stand-alone course?

No. Unfortunately, we do not offer our Advanced Modules to the public. Only students enrolled in our course can purchase them.

UNICEF
In partnership with UNICEF, The Interior Design Institute donates a percentage
from each enrolment to the children in the Syria crisis. This money will help to
provide a safe education to the children in war torn Syria.

Last year, UNICEF assisted with the education of 2,239,884 Syrian children affected
by war in the region.

Currently, one out of three schools in Syria has been destroyed or rendered
unusable due to the crisis. This, along with the lack of essential learning materials
in the remaining schools, creates a significant barrier to the education of children
in the region.

UNICEF’s aim this year is to assist in providing a formal and safe education
for 1.2 million children in Syria. This includes the provision of facilities, school
furniture, qualified teachers, rehabilitation, safe learning environments and
learning materials.

We are very privileged to be working with UNICEF towards this goal.

REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience in the design field is not necessary to enrol in
our course.

Our course has been developed for individuals who wish to practice
interior design as a hobby, expand their existing knowledge, or
become a working professional in the near future.

You will be required to submit diagrams, mood boards, sample

boards, colour schemes and illustrated plans during the course.
A pencil, ruler and paper are recommended as a minimum to
complete these tasks.

Aside from that, we only require that you have access to a computer
with internet connection, and you bring all your enthusiasm and
passion to succeed in what you love.

The student site, course materials and tutor can all be accessed from
a Mac or PC and will also function on all popular mobile and tablet
devices, including an iPad.
