I.Introduction
The present English exam has the theme "Present perfect with since, ever and for". it is
in this context that I am going to talk about how to use the present perfect, its formation,
that is, I speak of the rules of the formation of the present perfect, I present the
embroidery of Affirmative Form, Negative Form, Interrogative Form, then I speak of
how to use the verb "Ever", and I finish the work talking about the verb Since and For.

3
II.Present perfect with since, ever and for

2.1 Present Perfect

Second (ACKLAM). It is a verbal time widely used in the English language and
requires a lot of attention when being studied, as it is a more difficult verbal time to use.

The present perfect is formed by the simple present of the verb to have (have / has) +
the participle of the main verb. It is worth noting that the participle of English verbs will
be formed, in the case of regulars, by the addition of the “-ed” particle. Irregulars have
their own forms, so it is necessary to check each of these verbs to identify their form in
the participle.

2.2 Uses of the present perfect

Second (ACKLAM). When studying the present perfect it is noticed that this tense
indicates a relationship between the past tense and the present, in more detail the present
perfect will be used to describe actions that occurred in the past and affect the present,
actions that have been happening, actions that have ended happen or past actions
without a set time.

With the reading of this graph it is possible to visualize the use of the perfect gift. Every
time we refer to an action that connects the past and the present, the perfect present is
used if necessary. Therefore, according to the timeline above:

4
1. We use the perfect present to talk about actions that have occurred that are still
connected to the present and that the expression of time is not important, because the
action is more important than when it occurred. Example: I have talked to her.

2. We use the perfect gift for actions that just happened, were recent, close to the
present.
Example: They have just arrived at home.

3. We use the perfect present for actions that started in the past, but that still exist in the
present, that is, they are not over. Example: I have studied English for many.

2.3 Present Perfect Formation

Second (CHIMIM). Present Perfect Simple is formed by the auxiliary verb to have
(have / has) conjugated in Simple Present (simple present) + Past Participle (past
participle) of the main verb. Therefore, past participles of regular verbs end in –d, –ed
or –ied. In the past participle of irregular verbs, the verbal forms change a lot and do not
follow any pattern.

2.3.1 Affirmative Form

Second (CHIMIM). To construct affirmative phrases in the Present Perfect Simple, the
following structure is used: Subject + auxiliary verb to have in Simple Present + main
verb in Participle

Example: My parents have visited Portugal three times.

Obs .: the verb to have (ter) can be used in the contracted form when conjugated in
Present Perfect. In this case, 've is used as a contracted form of have and ´s as a form
contracted from has.

Examples: She has already gone> She's already gone.

We have been talking too much in class> We've been talking too much in class.

2.3.2 Negative Form

Second (CHIMIM). Negative phrases in Present Perfect Simple include “not” after the
auxiliary verb and

follow the following structure: Subject + auxiliary verb to have in Simple Present + not
+ main verb in Past Participle + complement
5
Example: My parents have not visited Portugal three times.

Obs .: the verb to have can be used in the contracted form when conjugated in Present
Perfect.

2.3.3 Interrogative Form

Second (CHIMIM). To ask questions in the Present Perfect Simple, you need to reverse
the verb order assist in the sentence, that is, it is positioned before the subject.

The Present Perfect interrogative form follows the following structure: Auxiliary verb
to have in Simple Present + subject + main verb in Past Participle + complement

Example: Have my parents visited Portugal three times?

2.4 Ever
Second (VIEIRA). EVER: used in Present Perfect in questions raising the possibility
that something (a fact) has occurred at some point in someone's life.

Examples using ever:

We use ever in interrogative sentences:

Ex: Have you ever been to the United States?

Ex: Have you ever traveled by train?

Ex: Have you ever failed a class?

Ex: Have you ever had a dog?

Ex: Have you ever seen the rain?

Ex: Have you ever taught English?

Ex: Have you ever driven a Ferrari?

Ex: Have you ever travelled abroad?

Ex: Has she ever been in Salvador?

Ex: Have you ever flown Air France?

For the question below: Have you ever traveled to Paris?

6
There are two possible answers: Yes or No. See:

 Yes, I have already traveled to Paris.

 No I’ve never traveled to Paris.

Does it mean that it would be wrong to answer ‘Yes, I have ever traveled to Paris’? Yes,
it would be. The correct thing is: ‘Yes, I have already traveled to Paris’.

In sentences with the verb in negative, we use ever instead of never.

- I would't ever say that

Ever is also used with the superlative to indicate that something is the biggest, the best,
the most interesting that anyone has ever seen, read, made, worked, etc

Ex: He is the busiest man I have ever known.

 We use for and since to say how long something has been happening.

How do we use “For / Since” [FORM]

[ Subject + have/has + past participle + for/since ]

I + have + lived here + for + ten years.

He + has + worked there + for + three months.

7
I + have + lived here + since + 1996.

He + has + worked there + since + October.

2.5 Since
Second (VIEIRA). Since used to illustrate the start of an action. It is placed before the
expression that marks this beginning. Example: I have been here since Monday. She has
known Bob since 2000.

Ex: I have been here since 8 o'clock a.m.

Ex: They have lived here since 1998.

Ex: My English has really improved since I moved to Australia

Ex: Many things have changed since last summer.

Ex: She has lived here since 1980.

Ex: We have taught at this school since 1965.

Ex: Alice has been married since March 2nd.

Ex: They have been at the hotel since last Tuesday.

Since gives the starting point of actions, events or states. It refers to when
things began: Since + a point in time (in the past), until now.
- I've been waiting since 7 o'clock.
- I have known him since January.

With since we use the present perfect tense or the past perfect tense.
8
- I have been here since 5 o'clock and I am getting tired.
- I had been working since 5 o'clock and I was getting tired.

Since can also be used in the structure It has been + period of time + since.
- It has been two months since I last saw her.
- It has been three years since the last earthquake.

2.6 For
Second (VIEIRA). It is used to demonstrate the duration of an action. It is placed before
of the expression that for that period.

Ex: He has worked here for six months. They have been a doctor for many years.

Ex: She has not seen her friends for a long time

We use For when we measure the duration – when we say how long something lasts:
For + a period of time To measure a period of time up to the present, we use the present
perfect tense and not the present tense.

Ex: I have known her for a long time.

Ex: We have lived here for 12 years.

Ex: She has worked here for 5 years.

Ex: She has lived here for twenty years.

Ex: We have taught at this school for a long time.

Ex: Alice has been married forthree months.

Ex: They have been at the hotel for a week.

9
III. Conclusion
With the present topic of the exam I learned a lot about the topic “Present perfect with
since, ever and for” concludes that through the use of "present perfect", we can define a
period of time before the present moment, considering its duration, in which case we
use for + period of time, or considering its starting point, in which we employ since +
concrete moment. "For" and "since" can still be used in "past perfect". "Since" admits
only perfect tenses. "For" can also be used to demonstrate the duration of an action. It is
placed before of the expression that for that period.
