1. Define research paper and its components.

2. Determine the different terminologies used in research.
3. Cite real-life situations where the importance of research is shown.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Introduction to Research

References: Research Methods Revised Edition by Dr. Consuelo G. Sevilla, et. al.
University of Southern California Research Guides
Strategy: Differentiated Task
Value Focus: Inquisitiveness

to take note at the words on the crossword
puzzle. Spot any similarities or differences
between the words. Do you notice anything?

How are they related?

Excellent! They are all indeed involved in

research. This morning, we will be talking
about research and the components of a
research paper.

During the Lesson (Abstraction)

 Discussion

Let us first define what research is.

They are all somehow related to

each other, sir.

Have you ever seen or read a research paper, They all have something to do with
a dissertation, a thesis, or even scientific research, sir.
articles?

That’s good to hear. Now, let us proceed to

the different components of a research
paper.

.
Abstract – It is a brief summary of a
research paper. It acts as the point-of-entry It is a systematic, controlled,
of the research paper. It is often used to help empirical and critical investigation
the reader quickly ascertain the paper’s of hypothetical propositions about
purpose. the presumed relations among
natural phenomena. (Kerlinger,
Introduction – It leads the reader from a 1973)
general subject area to a particular topic of
inquiry. It establishes the scope, context and
significance of the research. It includes the
statement of the problem, its purpose, and Yes, sir.
the hypothesis.
Objectives – These are the results sought by
the researcher/s at the end of the research
process, i.e. what the researcher will be able
to achieve at the end of the research study.

Research Method and Design – The set of

methods and procedures used in collecting
and analysing measures of the variables
specified in the research problem.

Results and Discussion – This is where the

researcher reports the findings of the study
based upon the methodology/s applied to
gather information. It also interprets and
describes the significance of the findings in
light of what was already known about the
research.

Conclusion – It is a synthesis of key points.

It is also where the researcher recommends
new areas for future research. It is intended
to help the reader understand why your
research should matter.

References – It is a list of all the sources the

researcher/s have used in the research paper,
making it easy for readers to find what the
researcher/s have cited.

For your research paper in your 4th

Culminating activity, you will be observing
those components. Allow me also to
introduce to you some terminologies you
will encounter when you create a research
paper.

Hypothesis – It is a testable statement of a

potential relationship between two or more
variables.

Variable – It is a characteristic that has two or

more mutually exclusive values or properties.

Statement of the Problem – It is the

description of an issue currently existing
which needs to be addressed. It provides
context for the research and generates the
questions which the research aims to answer.

Scope – It defines where and when the study

was conducted and who the subjects were.

Limitation – It is a phase or aspect of the

investigation which may affect the result
adversely but over which the researcher has
no control.

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework – It refers

to the set of interrelated constructs or
concepts, definitions, and propositions that
presents a systematic view of phenomena by
specifying relations among variables.

Do you have any questions regarding the

components of the research paper?

Great news!

 Valuing

Now class, why do people do research?

Very good! How important is research to

mankind?

Splendid! Do you now understand why

research is important?
None, sir.
Well, I am pleased to hear that.

After the Lesson (Application)

Now class, I will divide you into three

groups. Each group will have their own task, Because man is inherently
and I will give each group five minutes to inquisitive and curious, sir.

Group 1: Perform a role play portraying the
importance of research.
Group 2: Create a graphic organizer
showing the importance of research and
present it to the class.
Group 3: Write a poem which talks about
importance of research and present it
through a speech choir.

activity, here is the rubrics for your activity.

Okay, class! Time is up. Kindly return to

your seats and pay attention to your
classmates as they present their output.

(The teacher then evaluates the output and
