1、Product overview

Designed for global market, RS-PM3(4) GPRS Modem is a Tri-band or


Quad-band GSM/GPRS modem that works on frequencies GSM 850 MHz, GSM 900
MHz, DCS 1800 MHz and PCS1900 MHz. It can fit many space requirement in
your application.

2、GSM/GPRS features
RS-PM3(4) GPRS Modem includes a GSM/GPRS engine:SIM300 or SIM340
GSM/GPRS module produced by SIMCOM company.

Frequency bands • RS-PM4 Quad-band: GSM 850, GSM 900, DCS 1800,
PCS 1900. The band can be set by AT COMMAND,
and default band is EGSM 900 and DCS 1800.
• RS-PM3 Tri-band: GSM 900, DCS 1800, PCS 1900.
• Compliant to GSM Phase 2/2+

Transmit power • Class 4 (2W) at EGSM900 and GSM850

4、 Getting started with the modem

4.1 Setting up the modem

To set up the modem, do the following:


z Press SIM card holder ejector (yellow button) with a sharp object (the
tip of a pen for example).
z Insert the SIM card in the holder.
z Verify the SIM card fits in the holder properly.
z Connect the GSM/GPRS antenna to the SMA connector
z Connect both sides of the serial cable (9-pin Sub HD connector on the
modem side).
z Connect the power supply to the power supply source.
z Plug the power supply cable into the modem and switch on the external
power supply.
z Now the modem is ready to work. The GPRS status LED begin to ON and
flash

4.2 Checking the communication with the modem

z Connect the RS232 link between the DTE (port COM) and the modem (DCE).
z Configure the RS232 port of the DTE as follows
¾ Bits per second: 115200 bps,
¾ Data bits: 8
¾ Parity: None
¾ Stop bits: 1
¾ Flow control: Hardware Flow control.
z Using a communication software such as HyperTerminal program, enter
the AT↵ command. The response of the modem must be OK displayed in
the HyperTerminal window.
