ANSWER SHEET (CODE B)
In the Article “Can Coronavirus Vaccine Protect Us Against Climate Change?.” Written by
Robert Hamwey & Tim Sullivan from stated by https://www.exponent.com. This year has been
marked by the threat of the new coronavirus and public sacrifice to fight it with a loss of political
will and will in the fight against climate change. While invisible, COVID-19 has been seen by
most people as a real and real danger to the entire world's population. In the first quarter of 2020,
all countries in the world were hit by Covid-19. All people think that covid-19 is a "real and real
danger" for all populations in the world. Therefore every government in a country imposes a
social restriction on individual freedom. This pandemic has greatly affected economic activity in
the world to decline due to losses in all sectors of work, services and goods.
The international labor organization says, “the pandemic could cost the equivalent of 305 million
full-time jobs, while 1.6 billion workers in the informal economy could suffer “massive damage”
to their livelihoods.” According to UNCTAD, “global trade values fell 3% in the first quarter of
2020, and the quarter-on-quarter decline in the second quarter is expected to reach 27%.”
Therefore, the government recalculates the country's economy carefully and progressively, for
example giving social distancing instructions for a job.
The battle against the corona virus is also carried out by taking into account the conditions in the
world. As a result of the pandemic, there is a climate crisis which is an existential threat.
Because the Covid-19 pandemic shows that countries are taking a stand on the collective welfare
of their people. On the other hand, we can see that the world governments are less committed to
fighting climate change, for example the government does not hold an emergency press
conference to save the planet. The corona virus can infect anyone and has the potential to kill
anyone who is exposed, especially the climate problem in the form of greenhouse gases that
gradually destroy the planet. We as humans must be careful about the dangers posed by covid-19
and the threat to climate change that has an impact on everyday life.
This point of view takes away the sense of personal urgency and mistakenly convinces us that
sacrifice and decisive action can wait until the threat of the climate takes a toll on us. The human
impact on the climate can be seen from decades and deterioration due to damage and takes a
long time. Like the corona virus pandemic, climate change can cause casualties, unemployment,
and a decrease in gross domestic income (GDP). But unlike viruses that can make humans
immune, the effects of climate change worsen over time. The world climate organization has
been negotiating to curb climate change for three decades, but progress in this area has had little
or no significant progress.
As a conclusion, as a world community, we must know that fighting the climate crisis that occurs
requires many sacrifices, ranging from personal, local, to global. Hopefully, our eyes will be
opened to the Covid-19 pandemic that will occur along with quite drastic climate change. The
government needs to make a vaccine taking into account the different climates around the world
for the vaccine to work well.
