    Introduction: Indian Railway has developed “IR-DRDO” Bio-toilets jointly with the DRDO.

    Indian
    Railways all the coaches are fitted with Bio-Toilets except EMUs. In this technology, bacteria is
    degrading human excreta completely in the bio-digester tank & only disinfected effluent is drained out
    from it.

    Benefits
     Bio-Toilets in the train make the Railway Tracks
    human excreta free and odourless.
     All human waste is converted in to water and Gas
    Bio-toilet Tank
    through anaerobic digestion system.
     Indian Railway strive to be open defecation free

    Essential Information for Passengers


    The coaches are fitted with 4 Bio-Toilets –

     Please do not throw Bottle, Newspaper, Napkin,


    Polybag, Clothe etc. inside the Bio-Toilet.
     Use dust-bin which is provided in the Coach toilets.
     Please flush the toilet after use.
     Where OBHS staff is deployed, they will clean the
    toilets and dustbins.

    NOTE: As per risk analysis by DRDO, Bio-Toilet bacteria will not pose any hazardous
    effect on using Bio-toilets.
