The key takeaways are how to crochet a monkey including the materials needed and the step-by-step instructions to make the different parts of the monkey like the head, body, arms, legs, etc.

You start crocheting the monkey by making the muzzle which involves crocheting two circles - one for the top part around the eyes and one for the bottom muzzle itself. You then make the head by increasing rounds to form the shape and adding the muzzle and safety eyes.

The steps to make the head are to crochet increasing rounds to form the shape, don't break the yarn and start shaping the muzzle by inserting the safety eyes and attaching the muzzle. You then embroider features, stuff the head and sew on the muzzle.

Hi there! I invite you to crochet little monkeys like this one with me.

You will need:

 Yarn in two colors (main color and white) with an approximate yardage of 300 m / 100

 Thin white mohair for the muzzle 500 m / 100 g [547 yds / 3.5 oz]
 Snap-on safety eyes (may be substituted with sew-on eyes)
 Stuffing (polyester fiberfil)
 a length of brown crochet thread (for smile and eyebrows)
 Steel crochet hooks 2 mm [US 4 steel hook, UK 2.5] and 1.5 mm [US 8 steel hook, UK

Abbreviations:
 sc – single crochet (US) = double crochet (UK)
 inc – increase (2 sc worked into the same stitch
= with a shared base and separate tops)
 dec – decrease (2 sc crocheted off together =
with separate bases and a shared top)
 AMR – adjustable magic ring
 ch – chain
 blo – work through the back loop only
 sl-st– slip stitch

Let’s begin!

Start at the muzzle. With white mohair, make 2:

Top part (around eyes)

Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 sc)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (18 sc)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (24 sc)

Bottom part (muzzle itself, make 1)

Round 1: Crochet a chain of 8; starting from the 2nd stitch from the side of the AMR, work 1
inc, then 5 sc, into the next stitch – work 3 sc, and 6 sc into the remaining 6 sts; this has
yielded 16 sc.

Round 2: 2 inc, 5 sc, inc 3 times, 5 sc, inc (22 sc)

Round 3: 22 sc

Round 4: work a partial round of 14 sc, sl-st

Change yarn to main color and work the head

Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR

Round 2: inc 6 times (12 sc)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (18 sc)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (24 sc)

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) 6 times (30 sc)

2
Round 6: 30 sc

Round 7: 30 sc

Round 8: (3 sc, dec) 6 times (24 sc)

Round 9: (2 sc, dec) 6 times (18 sc)

Round 10: (sc, dec) 6 times (12 sc)

Round 11: (2 sc, dec) 3 times (9 sc)

Don’t break the yarn; start shaping the muzzle, since we’ll be using safety eyes. Insert the eyes
into the crocheted circle, then insert this whole assembly into the head, and fasten the eyes
with washers from the wrong side. Sew the whole of this to the head. Stuff the head with
fiberfil. Sew on the muzzle, too, stuffing it lightly.

Make eyelids now to enhance the facial expression.

3
Embroider eyebrows, nostrils and a smile :) Cinch the ends of the smile just a little
bit.

Continue with the body

Round 1: 9 sc

Round 2: (2 sc, 1 inc) 3 times (12)

Round 3: 12 sc

Round 4: (1 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (18)

Round 5: 18 sc

Round 6: (2 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (24)

Round 7: 24 sc

Round 8: (2 sc, dec) 6 times (18)

Round 9: (sc, dec) 6 times (12)

Round 10: Work 6 dec, stuff the body and fasten off.

Ears (make 2)
Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR.

Round 2: (1 sc, 1 inc) 3 times (9)

4
I like to complete the head before all other parts are finished, for this reason, I
prefer to sew on the ears at this point.

Arms (make 2)

Start with white yarn (of the same yarn weight as the yarn used for the body)
Round 1: ch2, 5 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (5)

Round 2: 5 inc (10)

Round 3: 10 sc

Round 4: (sc, dec) 2 times, 2 sc, dec (7)

Round 5: For the thumb – sl-st into the first stitch and 3 dc’s and another sl-st into the
same stitch, into which the first sl-st had been worked, 1 sc ea into ea one of the remaining
6 sts (11)

Round 6: sc into the first stitch, skip the thumb, 6 sc (7)

5
Round 7: Join main color working yarn and work 7 sc

Round 8: 1 inc, 6 sc (8)

Rounds 9 – 12: 8 sc per round

Round 13: dec 3 times and fasten off. Do not stuff.

Legs (make 2)
Round 1: With white yarn, crochet a chain of 4, into the 2nd ch from the hook – work 2 sc,
into the next ch – 1 sc, further 3 sc into the same st, and 1 sc ea into the remaining 2 chains.
This yielded 8 sc.

Round 2: 2 inc, 1 sc, 3 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc (14)

Round 3: change yarn to main color and work 14 sc

Round 4: 14 sc

Round 5: 3 sc, 4 dec, 2 sc (10)

Round 6: 3 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc (8)

Rounds 7 – 11: 8 sc per round

Round 12: Stuff the leg with fiberfil, dec 4 times, then fasten off.

6
Work the tail as follows: into the 2nd ch from the hook
– work 5 sc, then work 10 rounds more of 5 sc-blo ea.
If desired, the tail may be worked shorter, whichever
you like better.

All parts are now finished, assemble your

monkey!

Attach the arms and legs with thread

joints to keep them moveable.
