IAREP/SABE - Halifax, 2009

International Association for Research in Economic Psychology (IAREP)

and Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE)
Joint conference
"Behavioural Economics, Economic Psychology: Theory and Policy"

Welcome to the beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia, site of the first joint
IAREP/SABE conference in Canada.
In spite of the severe economic downturn, this conference has attracted
well over 200 submissions, with over 180 papers being presented.

We have also been able to attract three superb keynote speakers:

SABE’s Herb Simon Memorial lectures: George Akerlof (2001 Nobel
Laureate in Economics) and Gerd Gigerenzer; plus IAREP's Kahneman
lecture by Ilana Ritov.

This conference would not have been possible without the Herculean
efforts of Dr. Sonja Novkovic of Saint Mary’s University, chair of the
local organizing committee and member of the scientific committee and
of Bernadine Halliday, the Department of Economics Administrator at
SMU.

The IAREP-SABE joint conference aims at providing voice to economists,

psychologists and other academics across the disciplinary divide to
rigorously discuss and debate their latest research in all relevant
topics relating to behavioral economics and economic psychology.

We hope that you enjoy and are inspired by the conference and by the
culture and environment of Halifax, our host city.

Morris Altman
Chair of the Scientific Committee.
Welcome to Halifax!

It is our great pleasure to be hosting the IAREP-SABE 2009 conference

here in Nova Scotia. Halifax is known for its small size, big heart and
great hospitality. We hope you will find all this to be true.

Nova Scotia is also known for its great Fall weather. July, however, is a
month of fog, humidity and black bugs, so you will need your raincoat
and a sense of humour. It is also a month of the Tall Ships, Atlantic Jazz
Festival and the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (as in marching
bands, not the other kind). While the quality of the conference is sure to
grab your attention, we wish you great evenings “out on the town”.

Support of Saint Mary’s University and Sobey School of Business are an

integral part of the organization of this conference, but this year we
particularly wish to highlight the contributions of our economics
students. Our recently re-invigorated Economics Students Society will
welcome you and help us make this event a memorable one.

On behalf of the local welcoming committee,

Sonja Novkovic
Local convener
