here if the default initialization is not working.
Stay Online When Changing Projects (only for networked systems): When connecting
with different DPM 4000s through a network, the connection remains active even when
the project is being changed.
Erase LOG file: The log file is a data set in the Windows file system for collecting all
data that have been exchanged during PC/DPM 4000 communication through the serial
interface. Over time, this file is getting bigger and bigger, making it advisable to erase it
after some time. The log file is for subsequent checks of the data exchange between the
Designer and the DPM 4000 for tracing fault messages. The file (filename.log) can be
displayed on the screen with an ASCII editor (notepad, Wordpad).
8
Erase Events file: The Events file is created by ProAnnounce Designer to permanently
store the Event logger data on the hard disk. The file is getting bigger and bigger
depending on which events are logged and how many of these events occur. The file can
be erased by clicking on this button. The event file (filename.events.pmx) can be
displayed on the screen with an ASCII editor (notepad, Wordpad).

active entries, busy conditions
Prerequisites:
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System, 0.82, 0.82a or later.
The active entries in ProAnnounce help determine whether an audio input, audio output
or loudspeaker line is busy. This test result is then used as a condition for permitting
further processing. The Properties of Active Conditions window is accessed by clicking
on the Active Conditions icon in the Macro Manager window.
9
The following functions can be performed in this window:
Retrieving data from all combine entries from the DP 4000 (upload). Only in online
mode.
Sending data from all combine entries to the DP 4000 (download). Only in online
mode.
Active Condition column: When clicking on Creating a New Active Entry, a default
name, Active Condition No., is assigned and may be edited for easier management, as
previously described.
Audio column: Double-clicking this cell shows the list of possible audio input functions
of the DM 4000 (Announcement 1 to Announcement 4, Alarm, Chime, Text Replay,
Background Music). One or more (with Ctrl key) of these functions may be selected and
confirmed by clicking on OK. The active condition is true when an audio input function
entry in connection with an output or a speaker line (Agreement OFF) is true. When
Agreement ON is entered, this entry can also become true if no output and no speaker
line are entered.
10
Output column: Double-clicking on this line shows the list of existing DPM audio
outputs. One or more (with Ctrl key) of these functions may be selected and confirmed by
clicking on OK. The active condition is true when an audio output entry in connection
with an output line is true.
Lines column: Double-clicking on this line shows the selection list for speaker lines. The
selection is made by dragging and dropping, as previously described. If Agreement OFF
is selected, an entry in the Lines column is required.
Agreement column: This entry can only be set to ON or OFF by double-clicking. OFF
means that there must be at least one agreement in the line for the associated condition to
be true. ON means that all line entries must be true for the associated condition to be true.
From Priority column: The condition is only true if the priority of the respective action is
equal or higher than indicated in this column. The entry is made by double-clicking on
the value, editing it, and finishing by pressing RETURN
Afterwards, a condition for these active entries must be created for further use.

power management
power management
Prerequisites:
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System 0.818/0.818a or later
• Terminal stages from the ProAnnounce system, which are remote-control-ready, i.e.
DPA 4120, DPA 4140 with NRS 90222, or DPA 4411, or other terminal stages that
can be turned on or off through hardware contact, i.e. DPA 4120 or DPA 4140 with
NRS 90225 or DPA 4410, are recommended.
The ProAnnounce power management controls can switch a system from main to battery
power or turn external devices on and off, so that they are turned off in standby mode and
the batteries are discharged as little as possible during a power outage.
For consistency’s sake, it is recommended to use the inputs INP1, INP2, and OUT2 for
messages from the charger, power supply, and control line to the power supply,
respectively. The following graphic shows the Designer settings:
19
This information is entered as follows: The Interface dialog box is accessed by clicking
on the Interface button.
Input INP 1 must be activated in its check box; a possible name is Battery Fault. This
input will later send a fault signal from the charger or the battery to the DPM 4000.
Input INP 2 must also be activated; a possible name is Main Power On.
Finally, a DPP 4004 or DPP 4012 type power supply must be selected to be able to
perform the power management dialog.
The control output in the slot 5 dialog box can be created in the same manner.
20
Double-clicking on the power supply icon opens the power supply dialog box.
21
The following entries must be made in the Connections to DPM 4000 panel.
Power ON/OFF Signal: The DPM 4000/DDP power supply connection that transmits the
I/O information to external devices without remote capability. When this connection is
on, the external devices are also on, and vice versa.
Power Failure Signal: This connection sends a signal to the DPM 4000 when a power
failure occurs. No voltage means power failure. The DPP 40xx Power Supply manual
contains a more detailed description.
If the system is equipped with a battery and charger, check the box Battery With Charger.
In this case, the following setting options are activated and have to be entered:
Operation After Power Failure: This entry determines if the system switches to battery
power without interruption or goes into standby mode to save battery power should a
power failure occur. After power has been restored, the system reverts to the previous
mode.
Activation priorities:
If the system had been switched to standby mode (either through an operator pressing the
ON/OFF key on the console, through an external signal, or due to a power failure),
announcements or other events can switch the system back to normal operation if the
priority is high enough.
Activation During Main Power determines the priority that an announcement or other
event has to have to switch a system from standby to normal operation. In the above
example (switching priority 3 in main power mode), background music (priority 1) will
not switch the system; the same goes for advertising announcements with priority 2. A
console with priority 3 or higher, however will switch the system, as will a chime or an
alarm. During the switch, the ON/OFF LED on the console is blinking.
Activation During Battery Power determines the priority that an announcement or other
event has to have to switch a system from standby to battery operation. In the example
above (switching priority 7 in battery mode), only an alarm with a high priority can
switch the system to battery mode.
22
LCD display on the consoles:
The transition from one operating mode into another can be automatically displayed on
the LCD display of one or all consoles. In the LDC Displays dialog box, a display for
each operating mode (standby, main power, battery) can be selected. By default, the main
and battery power mode displays are shown for 5 seconds, whereas the standby display
remains until replaced by another message.
Turning the system ON/OFF cannot only be accomplished from the console but also
through an additional external contact input, which must be entered at Switch System
ON/OFF Via External Signal.
After entering all parameters and clicking on OK, the following entries are made
automatically in the Designer.
• Creating macros:
Macros 5, 6, and 7 are the text outputs for the LCD displays. The properties of these
macros may be changed in this dialog box (e.g. text, length of display).
Macros 3 and 4 are central sequences that are invoked to activate or deactivate the
system.
23
Steps 1 and 2 are only performed when main power is available. In this case the
remote amplifiers are switched to main power, and the LCD displays shows Main
Power for 5 seconds. Steps 1 and 2 are only performed when main power is not
available. In this case, the remote amplifiers are switched to battery power, and the
LCD displays shows Battery Power for 5 seconds.
Steps 1 and 2 depend on the external DPP operating voltage value. If the value is set
to OFF, the amplifiers are turned off, and the LCD display shows Standby. In step 3
the system branches to the DPP macro because the system is to be turned on.
24
• Creating conditions:
Conditions 1 and 2 respond to the signal Main Power On; conditions 3 and 4 respond
to the internal DPM 4000 operating voltage.
• Creating triggers:
The two triggers respond to changes during main power operation or internal
operating voltage mode and always invoke the DPP OFF macro that performs all
checks and may branch to DPP ON.
25
By default, the ON key (no. 103) on the console is intended for turning the system on and
off; the value for the activation delay (length of time the key has to be pressed for the
function to be performed) is set to 1 second by default. The Key Assignment tab on the
console is accessed by double-clicking on the Console icon. Double-clicking on the ON
icon opens the Key Properties window.
The ON key has itself an activation priority that has to be generally set in the Console
tab. This determines which user may turn on the system during a power failure. An alarm
sent to the system, however, will always be able to turn the system on:
26
The console talk key must be assigned a priority (default 5) in order to guarantee that the
system is turned automatically on in case of standby state.
If the signal is to be linked to a power supply, charger, or battery failure in the internal
monitor system (fault signal on console, fault contact actuation), ready inputs must be
created:
27
The first entry monitors the logical input, Battery Fault, with regard to the on level. If
this is not true, the text Charger/Battery is shown on the consoles, and the DPM 4000
relay is released. The second entry monitors the logical input, Main Power On with
regard to the on level. If the level is incorrect, the text Power Failure is shown on the
consoles, and the DPM 4000 relay is released.

DCS configuration
DCS-Configuration
Prerequisites:
None
The configuration of DCS modules can only be carried out via relay topologies.
Therefore, at least one relay topology has to be added to the design for this task. The
Designer does not differ between modules of the series DCS 4xx and DCS 4xxR. The
various DCS-series can also be mixed for the application in the configuration of a system.
28
The window for the DCS-configuration can be opened with the following button:
The DCS module system always requires at least one module of the type DCS 401 or
DCS 401R. If one of the relay topologies used requires a relay, a corresponding module
is already inserted automatically into the configuration file. If no module is provided, a
DCS 401 can be added manually by selecting DCS-modules. Then, the DCS 401 must be
shifted via drag and drop from the selection list to the right side of the window.
After a click on output modules, the possible modules DCS 408 (70 / 100 V power relay)
and DCS 409 (audio and control relay) appear in the selection window. If corresponding
29
relays have been used in the relay topologies provided, these have been added to the
design automatically and are already visible. Only speaker line relay modules of the type
DCS 408 for BGM and pages are added automatically, all other DCS modules must be
added manually. If the maximum number for a corresponding module type has been
exceeded, an additional DCS 401 has to be added manually.
Example for output modules, type DCS 408 / DCS 408R, which have already been added
automatically.
30
For using additional relay modules DCS 408 or 409, which are not added automatically,
you only have to click on output modules and, then, shift the modules via drag and drop
to the right side. With a click on the +-icon before the module type, the application of the
particular relays can be defined. Relays of the type DCS 408 are indicated by default with
r… and relays of the type DCS 409 are indicated by default with s… .
By selection of a relay which is still undefined, the following options appear in the
selection list: P relay, Collection call, Control relay, Label:
31
If a relay is defined as control relay, it is activated in case of a page, chime, alarm or
message output into the dedicated line(s) and, additionally, in case of BGM being
assigned. When using a relay as control relay, at least one speaker line has to be assigned
from the selection list to this control relay via drag and drop.
32
When using a label for a relay, this can be applied optionally according to its further
programming. Possible applications are: control of external system parts, switching of
spare amplifiers, monitor entries or similar. As a standard indication for relays
programmed like this, 100 V – relay r… is used. This indication should be modified to a
designation which is in accordance with its definitive function.
33
When using DCS 409 - relays, the same options are provided as with DCS 408 – relays,
with the exception of collection-call relays.
Possible applications are: General control outputs, switching of audio lines for BGM,
switching of spare amplifier inputs or the like.
34
See also the following block diagram:
For the usage of logic inputs, a module of the type DCS 412 must be added. Therefore,
the category input modules has to be selected and afterwards, a DCS 412 can be shifted
via drag and drop from the selection list to the right side of the window.
After a click at the +-icon before the corresponding input module, the 12 logic inputs
provided appear. They have not yet been defined and are indicated with 1…12 by default.
By selecting an input and adding a label to it (via drag and drop), these inputs are
represented to the program. The inputs are standardly indicated with DCS 412-x and
should be modified to significant designations.
Applications for logic inputs can be control lines of external system parts like fire alarm
systems, contacts of PTT-microphones or the like.
35
Adding of analogue input and output modules
The usage of DCS-416 modules allows the transfer of 8 analog voltages in the range of
0..10 V to the system and the transfer of 8 analog voltages from 0..10 V to external
devices. For this application, you have to select the category analogue modules before
you can shift a DCS 416 from the selection list to the right side of the window via drag
and drop.
After a click on the +-icon before the corresponding input module, you can see the 8
analog in- and outputs which are provided for each input module. The have not yet been
defined and are indicated with AD-channel or DA-channel by default respectively. By
selecting an input or an output and by assigning a channel (via drag and drop), these
inputs / outputs are represented to the program. The inputs are standardly indicated with
DCS 416-AD-channel x or DCS 416-DA-channel x respectively and should be modified
to significant designations. Applications for analog inputs can be control lines of external
system parts like potentiometers or multimedia control-systems as well as monitored
message lines of fire alarm systems and automated volume control. Possible applications
for analog outputs are dimmer controllers which are suitable for the input voltages
provided.

Menu communication
Prerequisites:
All settings for data connections and transfers from or to the DPM 4000 can be made in
the Communication menu.
Nonlinked menus:
37
Linked menus:
• COM Port:
The RS 232 interface for the PC/DPM 4000 connection must be specified in the COM
Port feature. In recent PCs and notebooks, COM 1 is often available.
When selecting the COM Port, all other interface parameters are defined (9600 Baud,
8 bit, 1 stop bit, no parity).
• Linking:
The feature Linking can link the current worksheet in the ProAnnounce Designer with
the DPM 4000. Alternatively the icon may be used. Clicking on specifies a
modem connection.
38
The connection is required for transferring data to the DPM 4000. After the
connection has been established, the log monitor appears (if active). This window
shows all interface activities.
In addition, direct communication with the DPM 4000 can be established by entering
special text strings. To accomplish this, click on the window.
• Disconnect:
An existing connection may be disconnected with the Disconnect feature.
Alternatively, the icon may be used.
39
An existing text file is automatically opened with the command Edit Text File. By
clicking on , another text file can be opened and receives the extension .txt. For
longer file edits, the file can be temporarily stored by clicking on . After
completion of the edit click on OK to close the text editor and to save the file.
Clicking on Cancel closes the text editor without saving the file and leaves the file
unchanged.
• Loading parameters:
The data created in the ProAnnounce Designer must be sent to the DPM 4000 with this menu item.
During initial transfer, all subitems must be checked (text file only if present) for all created data to be
sent to the device. At a later time, if only individual subgroups have changed, it may be enough, for
example, to send only the console data. This reduces the transfer time.
40
The following categories are available: Audio, Consoles, Lines and Groups, Controller, Timer and
Calendar, and Text File.
The category selection can be simplified by clicking on the button Erase All/Select All.
Clicking on the Text File button opens the text editor for editing the text file.
The direction of the file transfer is determined by selecting the respective Direction radio button.
Normally the transfer from the PC to the DPM 4000 (download) should be marked. In rare cases, data
is retrieved from the DPM 4000 into the PC (upload). When uploading, note that labels, such as macro
or line names, are not stored in the DPM 4000. Working without a .pmx device file is therefore not
advisable in most cases.
After the selection, the transfer is initiated by clicking on OK. The data is displayed in the log monitor
(if turned on).
If the security inquiry is answered with Yes, a file selection window appears into which the desired file
is entered.
The operating system files depend on the hardware version of the DPM 4000. Devices with device
codes through 10337 must run the DPM 4000 V 1.0.hex (or similar) operating system. Devices with
41
device codes 10338 and higher (DPM 4000 upgrade) can only run the operating system DPM 4000 V
1.0a.hex (or similar). Loading the operating system takes approx. 8 min., depending on the operating
system.
After loading the operating system all settings in the DPM 4000 must be erased. Afterwards, a netscan
is performed (see below).
• System initilization:
In the System Initialization menu item, the user can erase all DPM 4000 settings and
perform a netscan.
Erasing all settings means resetting the DPM 4000 to factory condition; i.e. all data,
including any previously entered release codes, will be erased. Language data stored
in flash EPROMS are not included. This function must be performed after an
operating system upgrade. After erasing the settings, a netscan must be performed.
• Security
Software codes must be entered in the Release Codes menu item to release additional
DPM 4000 features.
42
These release codes are required for the following features:
Name Description
The associated release code must be entered at the designated location; after pressing
the RETURN key, the word Released appears in the input field. The release code
requires entering the device code that appears in this window and on the rear panel of
the device. The eight-digit release code consists of letters and numbers. Release codes
can only be entered in on-line mode.
43
• Password protection:
The DPM 4000 password protection is designed to prevent access by unauthorized
personnel to the ELA system. On the first call the following dialog box appears for
assigning a password:
In order to avoid accidental errors, the password must be entered twice, in identical
fashion, into the Password and the Confirm Password field, respectively. The entry is
validated by clicking on OK. If the two entries are not identical, the following error
message appears:
After entering two identical passwords and clicking on OK, the DPM 4000
connection must be disconnected. From this time on, a connection to the DPM 4000
can only be established after entering the correct password into the following dialog
box: The window automatically appears when a connection to the DPM 4000 is
attempted.
44
• Access to the DPM 4000 is granted only upon entry of the correct password. After
clicking on OK, the connection is established if the password was correct.
If the check box Deactivate Password Protection was checked before clicking on OK,
password protection is no longer activated from this point on.
If the wrong password was entered during login, the following error message appears:

feature codes
Prerequisites:
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System 0.838a or later
• In the ProAnnounce system, certain features can only be utilized after input of a
special release code. These release codes are required for the following features:
Name Description
52
• The associated feature code must be entered at the designated location; after pressing
the RETURN key, the word "released" appears in the input field. The release code
requires entering the device code that appears in this window or on the rear panel of
the device. The eight-digit release code consists of letters and numbers. Release codes
can only be entered in on-line mode.
Prerequisites:
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System, 0.550 or later.
When utilizing the DMM 4650 Digital Message Manager in the ProAnnounce system, a
start/stop control signal for starting and stopping (e.g. OUT6) and a control input as an
input signal (e.g. IN6) in the DPM 4000 should be provided for each sequence in the
53
DMM 4650. If the DMM 4650 fault message is to be integrated into the monitoring
system, a control input must be provided for it as well (e.g. IN5).
The audio link also requires a line input to which a DMM 4650 is connected.
The respective inputs and outputs may be specified as slot 5 connections or as DCS 412
inputs and DCS 409 outputs. In the example above, connections to slot 5 are used. In
DYNACORD systems, the OUT 6 to OUT 8 outputs and the IN5 to IN8 inputs are used
as defaults.
DMM 4650, external stored messages, external
alarms, dialog window
After preparation, a dialog box can be opened by double-clicking on the DMM 4650 icon
to make managing the associated settings easier.
54
A new text can be specified by clicking on , and a new DMM 4650 alarm can be set
by clicking on . The names of the new signals may be edited. Previously specified
In the drop-down menu Start/Stop – Control Signal, specify the output line that is to start
or stop the respective alarm or text in the DMM 4650 (static resolution).
The input that is to transmit the DMM 4650 signal (alarm or activated text) to the DPM
4000 must be specified in the Continuous Input Signal menu.
55
Finally, set the Signal Priority. A low priority may be specified for unimportant signals,
such as advertising announcements. For important signals (alarms, alert announcements),
a high priority must be specified.
An external control signal for the start of the signal may be specified under Optional
Parameters field, if programming console keys or calendar entries is not desired, or an
additional way to start the signal is required. In this case, the box Start This Audio Signal
Through Any Event (Condition) must be checked. The desired control signal may be
chosen in the drop-down menu. If no associated condition has been created, the window
Properties of Conditions may be accessed by clicking on the Condition button.
Speaker lines assigned for external signal triggering may be selected by clicking on the
Speaker Lines/Groups. The desired lines are dragged and dropped from the left to the
right side of the selection window.
If the DMM 4650 fault message is to be considered in the DPM 4000 fault handling,
specify the respective input line in the Fault Input Signal drop-down menu.
After having completed all entries, close the window by clicking OK. This creates the
following macros and triggers:
56
DMM Text 1 Start and DMM Text1 Stop: These two logic output macros control the
hardware connection for starting and stopping the DMM 4650 start and stop.
DMM Text 1 Audio and DMM Audio1 Stop: These two external text replay or external
alarm macros start or stop switching the audio signal.
DMM Text1 LCD and DMM Text1 LCD off are indicators on the console (if so specified).
57
Condition 3 is true if the input line DMM Msg1 is activated.
The triggers created in the manner described control the following functions:
Trigger 1 stops a switched-through audio signal when the input signal line is deactivated.
Trigger 2 controls the console displays.
Trigger 3 starts switching through the audio signal when the external start contact is
activated.
Using the fault input signal creates the following entry in READY INPUT Properties:
This entry causes the fault relay in the DPM 4000 to be released and to create a fault
message when the fault relay in the DMM 4650 is released.
Control functions (signal start) on the console are specified by double-clicking on the
respective button in the console dialog box.
58
The following selections are possible:
Destinations: Either the current selection for sending the signal to the speaker lines
selected via the console selection buttons,
or an individual line or group, in which case the signal is always sent to this line or group.
Multiple selections are not possible in this window. For the selection of several lines, a
group must be created.
Priority: Signal priority. Unimportant signals may be assigned a low priority (2-4),
whereas important signals (alarms, clearing announcements) should receive a high
priority (8-9, max. 10).
59
Programming the DMM 4650:
The DMM 4650must have at least one sequence which can respond to the DPM 4000
requirements and send an input signal to a control output. The following standard
example is used in DYNACORD Systems:
1 Out A2 set
2 Sum=off
60
3 DMM=.. dB
4 Start M01
5 If audio
6 End (text replayed once, with continuous Jump04)
7 If stop
8 End
9 Jump 05
1 Out A2 set
2 Sum=off
3 DMM=.. dB
4 If Stop
5 End
6 If audio
7 Start M01
8 Jump 04
Prerequisites:

pressing RETURN.
Maximum : The entered standard value may be edited by double-clicking this line. The
numeric value must be entered in the form of x.y (in V). The entry is completed by
pressing RETURN.
Afterwards a condition for this range check must be created. This is described in the
Conditions Section. If the condition is created during the ON state, it is true if the input
voltage is between the minimum and maximum values.
Double-click on Analog Cards in order to insert DCS 416/DCS 416R type cards. The
selection list shows the DCS 416 type, which must be dragged and dropped from the left
to the right side of the window. Clicking on "+" next to Analog Cards shows all inserted
analog cards. The number of specified AD or DA converters is shown next to the
designation DCS 416.
63
Clicking on "+" next to the associated analog card shows all inputs and outputs. An
analog input is specified by activating it with a click and by dragging the word Channel
onto this entry. The entry receives a default name (e.g. DCS 416 AD Channel1), which
may be edited as described.
Entries created in this fashion may be used in the Analog Condition Properties window in
the DCS 416 Entries column.

Prerequisites:
69
• DPM 4000 or DPM 4000 Upgrade
• Self-monitoring DPA 4120, DPA 4140 or DPA 4410 terminal stages (90224 pilot
signal and ground fault monitoring upgrade kit, fault message through contact) or
• DCS 409 or DCS 409 R relay, as applicable, for switching the input signal from the
amplifiers
• DCS 408 or DCS 408 R relay, as applicable, for switching the output signal from the
amplifiers
Switching to the spare amplifier in the PROMATRIX system requires the terminal
repeaters to be self-monitoring and to be capable of sending a fault message to the DPM
4000 over a network. In case of an amplifier fault, the input and output can be switched
to an installed backup amplifier through a change-over relay. This guarantees the
functionality of the ELA system in case of an amplifier fault. In addition, a fault message
can be initiated through the fault contact in the DPM 4000 or on the console display.
See following block diagram for wiring the audio signals of the automatic spare amplifier
switching:
70
Preparation: In order for the ProAnnounce Designer to make available the terminal stages
in the various menus, all terminal stages used must be entered into the worksheet,
including the amplifier terminal stages. When using remote-capable terminal stages,
preparation can look as follows:
When switching to a remote-capable backup amplifier, the backup amplifier automatically adopts the
volume of the amplifier that is being replaced.
71
In addition, an appropriate number of DCS 409 or DCS 409 R relays must configured for switching the
audio inputs of the amplifiers, and an appropriate number of DCS 409 or DCS 409 R relays, for switching
the performance outputs. This is done in the DCS Configuration window:
72
If the fault message of the terminal repeater is used through contacts (amplifiers without remote capability),
appropriate message inputs must be created as well. In this example, inputs in slot 5 of the DPM 4000 are
used:
Fault messages from terminal stages that are input through contacts must be specified in the Ready Inputs
entries.
73
This ends the preparation phase, and programming can be completed in the Backup Amplifier Properties
window. This window can be accessed through Managing Macros by clicking on or through remote-
capable amplifiers by clicking on the Backup Amplifier button.
Creating a new backup amplifier In case of an amplifier fault, this amplifier will replace the amplifier
assigned to it in Watch Entries. The selection table for existing backup amplifiers is then displayed.
74
Creating a Watch Entry. Watch entries are directly assigned to a backup amplifier and represent the
amplifiers that will be replaced by their associated backup amplifiers in case of a fault. The selection table
for existing backup amplifiers is then displayed. Each backup amplifier may be assigned up to 10 watch
entries. The desired amplifier may be selected by double-clicking on it.

speaker line measurement / speaker line
surveillance
Prerequisites:
83
• Software: Release Code SW Line Monitoring (line monitoring) Recommended:
Release Code SW Clock (clock and calendar functions) for calendar-driven automatic
line measurements.
• Terminal stages from the ProAnnounce system prepared for line measurements; i.e.
DPA 4120 or DPA 4140 with NRS 90222 or DPA 4411.
Speaker line management is accessed through the System button. After double-clicking on the following
button , . the system selection menu for the selection in the system appears:
Clicking on the Line Measurement icon provides access to the Line Measurement
main menu:
84
Functions for storing and archiving measured data can be activated by clicking on the
following buttons:
Exporting measured values into an ASCII table (may be used for further editing)
85
Printing out measured values
Frequency For Line Test: The default value is 66 Hz to keep noise and other disturbances
to a minimum during line measurements. If desired, another frequency may be selected.
After changing the measurement frequency, a new line measurement reference must be
created.
86
Adjustment Per Day: If the measured value deviates from the reference value, the
reference value is adjusted to a certain degree; the entry may be made in % per day.
When 0 is entered, no adjustment is made.
Line Relay Deactivation After Short: If this option is checked, the associated line is no
longer considered, as soon as the measured impedance has fallen below the reference
value by 25%. This prevents transmitting distorted or unintelligible group or collective
calls over a network with shorted lines.
Frequency for Impedance Measurement: The default is 1000 Hz. If desired, another
frequency may be selected. After changing the measurement frequency, a new impedance
measurement reference must be created. The impedance measurement checks the speaker
lines but is not used for monitoring.
Recognition Delay for Ground Fault: During line measurement, the line is
simultaneously checked for shorts. The default is 5 seconds. This time may be too short,
however, for ground faults with very high resistance. At this location, a longer checking
time may be specified for individual measurements.
Relay switchings before measurement: This value indicates how often the speaker line
relay (also compulsory receiving relay) is actuated before the measurement is performed.
The relay contacts clean themselves during multiple actuation, and the measurement is
more exact.
Ign. : Setting option for ignoring individual measurement results (e.g. during installation).
87
Multiple selections may be made with the Ctrl key.
Volume Control: Volume control during measurement (in dB). The setting should be
made so that the speaker transducer is optimally amplified but not overamplified. The
measuring limits are 10 V (-20 dB) for the voltage and 200 mA for the current.
Caution. When the measuring range is exceeded, a ">" character in the Line Measurement or
Impedance Measurement column indicates that the measuring range is insufficient. In this case, the
measured volume must be reduced.
+Tol : Upward adjustment of the permissible impedance deviation; set to high when few
speakers are connected to one line. If a reference value has been established, the
permissible maximum value is also shown.
-Tol : Downward adjustment of the permissible impedance deviation; set to high when
few speakers are connected to one line. If a reference value has been established, the
permissible minimum value is also shown.
Line Measurement: Measured line values for monitoring individual speaker lines.
Voltage, amperes, and the resultant pseudoimpedance in V/A. Since this is not a 1000 Hz
measurement, it is not called impedance. The values deviate from the 1000 Hz
measurement.
Reference: Reference values for the line measurement; identical values for voltage,
amperes, and pseudoimpedance.
88
Impedance measurement: Measured impedance values These values help experts check
the speaker network; they are not intended for monitoring individual speakers. Voltage,
amperes and the resultant impedance in V/A are shown.
Reference: Reference values for the impedance measurement; identical values for
voltage, amperes, and pseudoimpedance.
Status Field
Line Measurement: Activating this selection creates a macro and a calendar entry for
daily speaker line measurements at the time entered. In addition, "Display on Consoles"
indicates whether and where the line measurements are shown in the LCD display. A
contact can send an external message when a speaker line is measured and indicate it in
the Active Line/Output field.
89
The Perform Measurement button permits measurements and the adoption of reference
values. One or several lines may be measured. (Selection in the Line Measurement
window with the Ctrl key.) If all lines are to be measured, the Select All Lines button may
be used.
After selecting the lines, a one-time measurement is triggered in the Line Measurement
column, updated after having been checked by the measured value, and then adopted as a
reference value.
The speaker measurement status is displayed in the status field in the lower right corner.
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System 0.818/0.818a or later
Macros are functional elements in the ProAnnounce Designer for certain procedures and
tasks. In order to perform a certain function, a macro must be run. Starting a macro can
be triggered by several different inputs:
• Calendar entries
90
Different macros perform many different functions in the ProAnnounce system.
Depending on the macro type, different parameters must be entered for creating macros.
Macros are created and managed in the Edit Macros window. Double-clicking on
91
Erasing a macro
A selected macro is erased.
Upload Macro (load data from the DPM 4000) The data of all macros stored in the
DPM 4000 can be uploaded with this command. The command can only be carried out if
the project is linked to the DPM 4000.
Download macro (send data to the DPM 4000)The data of all macros are sent to the
DPM 4000. The command can only be carried out if the project is linked to the DPM
4000.
Start macro. A selected macro is started by clicking on this icon. This function is for
checking program parts and troubleshooting. The command can only be carried out if the
project is linked to the DPM 4000.
92
Editing a macro name:
After a new macro has been created, a consecutively numbered default name is first
assigned. For easier manageability, this name should be changed. This is accomplished as
follows: First, the name is activated by clicking on it once. After a short period, a second
click on this name accesses the edit mode. The macro should receive a name that will
give a hint at its function (such as Collective In and Collective Out for an announcement
macro for all circuits).
The user may select the alarm type (Alarm 1 to 19), the priority (1 to 10), and the speaker
lines assigned to the alarm. The speaker line entry is described in the Announcement
Macro section.
93
macro type aux switch
With the Aux Switch macro, different input sources for the background music may be used. Each source
must have its own macro. Switching can be accomplished externally or from a console.
The appropriate AUX Input is the only parameter to select. The selection list contains
only inputs that are in slot 1 or 2. This list does not contain any console inputs.
94
The following parameters must be entered:
Input: Audio input IN1 to IN4
Priority: Priorities from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) may be assigned.
Initial Chimes: If an announcement is to be preceded by a chime, the corresponding
chime type may be entered here.
Speaker lines are selected by dragging and dropping them from the left to the right side of
the window. Conversely, lines may be erased by dragging and dropping them from the
right to the left side of the window.
95
macro type chime
The chime macro can switch a selected chime signal to specified speaker circuits. Only a single macro is
created since the chime ends automatically.
The user may select the chime type (Chime 1 to 6), the priority (1 to 10), and the speaker
lines associated with the chime. The speaker line entry is described in the paging /
announcement macro section.
96
The appropriate speaker lines are the only parameter to be entered; the speaker line
selection procedure is described in the Page / Announcement Macro section.
An input or output or another DPM 4000 signal source must be entered as a volume
controller (IN1 to IN4, OUT1 to OUT4, CHIME, ALARM, MESSAGE, MONITOR). If
97
the macro is used as a controller, the increment macro must be assigned a dB value of 1,
and the decrement macro, a dB value of -1. If the macro is used for direct volume control,
the volume must be entered as a dB value. In this case, only the first macro is required;
the second macro may be deleted.
The Line measurement is used for regular monitoring the speaker network. Due to the
deviating measuring frequency (default: 66 Hz), the measured values are not identical
with the true impedance values. This is also called pseudoimpedance. The low measuring
frequency is considered less disturbing than, say, 1 kHz.
The impedance measurement is used for determining the true values at a measuring
frequency of 1000 Hz. This measurement may be performed during system setup in the
building.
98
Lines are selected by clicking on , as described in the Paging /Announcement
Macro section.
The following parameters must be entered: which output is to be activated and the time of
activation (pulse length). If the output is to be used statically, a time of 0.0 must be
entered.
99
This window offers two function:
The memo flag name may be edited. The maximum number of memo flags is 200. The
first one hundred (1 to 100) are volatile and will be erased if voltage to the DPM 4000 is
withdrawn. The memo flags 101 to 200 are nonvolatile and remain stored, even if the
voltage supply is interrupted. The memo flag number can be entered into the ID column.
In the Status column, the associated states of the memo flags can be retrieved. The
project, however, must be linked to the DPM 4000. After clicking on the word Status, the
state is displayed.
The macro parameters must indicate the kind of memo flag and if it is set to TRUE or
FALSE by the macro. Macros for TRUE and FALSE must be created separately.
100
macro type monitor
Monitor macros are for preexamining and listening to certain audio items in the
ProAnnounce system. These audio items must be specified in a monitoring table. The
macros are only necessary when the listening module DCS 420 is not used. If a listening
module is used, only the monitor table must be created; all other settings are created
automatically.
After selecting the parameter table, the macros sequentially (up and down) switch to the
individual sources specified in the monitor table. The sources cannot be displayed
without a DCS 420.
With the direct parameter and an appropriate selection, each listening item can be
assigned its own actuator (either on the console or external) for direct access.
101
In the function bar, the following actions can be started:
Adding an external relay for using the external monitor bus (only for switching non-
remote-capable devices to the monitor bus). This DS 409-type relay must have been
previously specified.
Uploading the monitor table (retrieving the monitor table from the DPM 4000)
Downloading the monitor table (sending the monitor table to the DPM 4000)
102
export generated monitorlist to asciifile
103
Pattern: A pattern consisting of up to 16 characters may be defined. The first character
means tone on, the second, tone off. In the example above, the output is tone, pause, tone,
pause, tone, tone, tone (1 = tone, 0 = pause).
Duration Per Increment: The duration for each tone can be defined in 0.1-second
increments. If 0.0 is entered here, the macro acts as a buzzer stop command.
Pause Between Two Patterns: For repeats, the pause between the patterns (0 to 255
seconds) may be entered here.
Parameter entry:
The macro to be performed in this sequence is entered into the Macro column.
104
The time after which the macro is to be performed is entered into the Delay column (in
seconds).
The circumstances under which the macro is to be performed is entered into the
Condition column.
The example above checks whether a certain logic input (chime off) is activated. If this
input is activated, only the macro LCD Chime Deactivated is performed; i.e. the chime
does not start and a message (chime deactivated) is displayed on the console. If the input
is not activated, the conditions for lines 2 and 3 are met, and the four-tone chime is
triggered. The console display shows that the chime is performed.
105
The following parameters must be entered:
Message: Text memory name, prviously specified with the Audio button.
Priority, Lines, and ON/OFF or ADD/SUB are described under Macro Page /
Announcement.
106
The following parameters must be entered:
Record: Data storage for the recording
Format: Recording quality (10 KHz, µ-LAW, normal quality, long storage time or 20
kHz, linear, very good quality, short storage time)
Record duration: After this time (in seconds) has elapsed, the recording is halted. If the
input is 0, the only limit is the available storage capacity.
107
The following parameters must be entered:
Console: A single console or all consoles may be chosen for the text display.
Display duration: The display duration is entered in seconds. If 0 is entered, the text is
displayed until it is overwritten by another text.
Line 1/Line 2: The text may be displayed in the upper or lower line of the console
display. A two-line display can only be displayed with a second macro. In this case, the
setting Clear Other Line of the second macro must be set to off. The two-line display is
only available in version 1.2 and later of the console software.
Acoustic Text Display Signal: It is possible, from console software version 1.2 on, to use
the console buzzer to activate an attention signal when the text appears.
108
Only the alphanumeric storage need be indicated under Recorded message.
109
The conditions for main power supply, battery power supply and pilot signal must be
entered under Power-On Options and/or Power-Off Options. The system power
management automatically creates various macros of this type. When powering up, the
Fault Reset option can also be selected. This means that stored faults are reset. Clicking
on selects which amplifiers are affected by this macro. For selecting more than one
amplifier, the Ctrl key is pressed.
• Maximum and minimum values can be set to give the user limits that cannot be
exceeded. Fault conditions are minimized.
• If the controller is operated from a console, the display indicates the set value as both
a bar code and a numeric value and shows an explanatory text (e.g. "music").
110
• Console keys (UP, DOWN), through macros
• Delay 1 to Delay 4
• Remote-capable amplifiers
111
This window offers two functions:
Retrieving data from all virtual controllers from the DPM 4000 (upload)
Sending data from all virtual controllers to the DPM 4000 (download)
Source column: The devices or inputs entered in this column can control a virtual
controller. Even virtual controllers can, in turn, affect other virtual controllers. DCS
416/DCS 416R AD channels must be predefined.
Affected column: In this column, sources for controlling virtual controllers can be
specified by double-clicking. In this example, Controller 1 is controlled by the DCS 416
DC Input 1. A controller may also be controlled by different sources. This, however, is
only advisable when encoders are used.
This column remains blank if a virtual controller is affected by a macro. There are also
controllers without a source.
Destination column: All destinations that may be affected by a virtual controller are
entered here. This column also lists remote-capable amplifiers in the system. DCS
416/DCS 416R DA channels must be predefined.
In order to set or modify the properties of a virtual controller, the Virtual Controller
Properties window may be accessed by double-clicking on the corresponding controller
icon.
112
Shape of Curve: The shape of the curve (linear or logarithmic) of the controller may be
set by numerical values or by shifting the curve. The values 0 (linear) for voltage outputs
0 to 10 V and -10 to -30 (logarithmic) for volume controllers proved to be well-suited.
Minimum: Minimum valid controller value, entered in dB for volume controller (range: -
150 to 0 dB) and in V for voltage outputs. Entering values into the ProAnnounce
Designer is unlimited.
Maximum: Maximum valid controller value, entered in dB for volume controller (range: -
150 to 0 dB) and in V (range: 0 to 10) for voltage outputs. Entering values into the
ProAnnounce Designer is unlimited.
113
Increments: Number of controller’s levels of setting. For volume controllers, one
increment per 1 dB is recommended; for voltage outputs, 1 increment per 10 mV.
Value: Entered only if an absolute value is to be set by the macro (in this case, the
DOWN macro may be deleted).
Text, Unit: These entries appear in a console display when the macro is triggered by this
console (e.g. Input 1: -5 dB). A bar code is also shown.
114
Digits After Decimal Point: For value displays. For volume values, 0 is recommended;
for voltage output values, 2 to 3.
Time interval: The macro indicated above is regularly started after the time entered here
(max. 300 seconds).
Repeat Counter: The number of repeats can be from 1 to 65536. If 0 is entered here, the
number of repeats is infinite. In this case, the macro can only be stopped by the condition.
115
Prerequisites:
• Software: Release code SW Security (event and fault logging) In addition, the release
code SW also controls the clock (clock and calendar functions), since the date and
time of time are also recorded during logging.
The event logger is accessed through the System button . After double-clicking on the following button
Clicking on the event logger icon provides access to the logger main menu:
116
The event logger can collect 255 events and store them in a ring buffer. When more
events occur, older entries are overwritten. Overwriting is indicated by an exclamation
point at the beginning of the line. The more events have to be recorded, the earlier
overwriting occurs, if the PC is not permanently connected to the DPM 4000. This means
that as few events as possible should be logged when no PC is connected.
When connecting the PC to the DPM 4000 and opening the logger window, the collected
data is displayed in the Entry window and simultaneously added to the *pmx.events file.
This file is in the same directory as the .pmx file and can also be imported into other
programs (ASCII).
117
If the Print check box is checked, the logger entries are printed when a page is filled. For a printout without
waiting for a full page, clicking on the Print Now button is sufficient. The buffer content is then printed,
regardless of how many lines are stored.

message recorder
Prerequisites:
• Upgraded with at least one 90205 flash memory. Up to 4 of such memories may be
added. The upgrade process is described in the ProAnnounce user’s manual. An
added flash memory must be formatted after installation. This is done by selecting the
item Message Recorder in the ProAnnounce Designer.
120
• Specification of one or more text plays:
Click on the Text tab and then the Audio button Select Text Play 1, 2,…Click on Add
The message recorder is accessed through the System button. After double-clicking on the following icon
121
Clicking on the message recorder icon provides access to the main menu of the
message recorder:
122
If the message memory was added, it must first be formatted. This is done by marking the
corresponding flash devices and clicking on the Formating icon. The progression may be
observed in the status window in the lower right corner. Caution. Formatting a flash
memory deletes previously recorded audio signals.
To record a text, first one of the inputs IN1 to IN4 must be selected under Recording
Source. This input must be disconnected from its original use for the recording duration.
In addition, an appropriate Text Play… data memory must be selected. This data memory
must have been specified under Audio.
The following record options must be selected: Quality (20 kHz linear takes up much
memory space and provides very good quality, whereas 10 kHz µLaw uses little space
and offers normal quality) and Recording Time, where only the memory capacity limits
the memory size when 0.0 is entered.
After this setup, clicking on the Record button starts the recording. At the same time, the
old recording is being erased. If the time needed for the erasure affects the recording
negatively, the old recording may be erased in advance by using the Erase key. The
recording can be halted by the end of the recording time, by clicking on the Stop button,
or by reaching the memory capacity. During recording, memory-capacity information is
displayed in the lower right corner in the status line.
Play
The text may be played back by clicking on Play. It is important to specify an output for
the recording playback under the Play menu item.
Texts may be replayed in two ways during the program run time: with a macro or a specially programmed
console key.
123
The following entries must complete the macros:
The text memory for the recording must be entered under Message.
A priority from 1 (low) to 10 (high) may be selected. The text output circuits must be
specified with . The circuits are selected through drag and drop in the Zone
Selection window.
124
The macro created in this fashion may be started by the following devices:
• Console key
Text replay can also be started through a directly programmed console key. As opposed
to a macro, announcement destinations may be optionally assigned through Circuit
Selection buttons.
In this example, key 107 is assigned the start of text 3 in the current selection, with a priority of 6.
125
Message Stacking
If the voice memory is upgraded, the message stacker may be activated. If the stacker is
not occupied, and the announcement is made from an available input, the message stacker
buffers an announcement from a console when the announcement destination (speaker
zone) in busy. This means that e.g. an announcement from console 1 on input 1 to zone 1
may be made, while, at the same time, a consol 2 announcement on input 2 to zone 1 is
being recorded. This recording is played with the requested zone pattern and the priority
entered, after the system has become available.
The message stacker is currently only available through Text File Programming.
/EVENT/MESSAGE26/INTERN 25
/AUDIO/PM_CHIME_ATT OFF
/RECORDER/STACKER/REJECT_TIME 300
(After the reject time [in seconds], the stored message is deleted, even if the stacker has
not yet played it)/ RECORDER/STACKER/REPEAT 1 (specifies how often the stacker
repeats the stored message)
/RECORDER/STACKER/PAUSE 10
(Specifies the pause between repeats)
/RECORDER/STACKER/FORCE NONE (or 1,2,3...)
(Lists the consoles [1 to 16] that must use the stacker, even when the system is not busy)
/RECORDER/STACKER/DISABLE NONE (or 1,2,3...)(Lists the consoles [1 to 16] that
may not use the stacker)
126
If the stacker is being interrupted by a higher priority, it attempts to play the
announcement after the system has again become available. This occurs until the reject
time has expired.
During automatic recording, the console display shows Recording and the available
memory space in %.
While the stacker is waiting for the replay, the console display shows Stacker Is Pending.
While the stacker is playing the announcement, the console display shows Stacker Is
Playing.
The texts to be displayed may be edited in
/RECORDER/STACKER/LCDTEXT/ ...
Application example for the message recorder for recording advertising announcements with a console:
To start a text from a console, a direct announcement must be made to prepare the audio
path. In certain cases, the recording may be disseminated in the system.
• Recording a text with the Recording Start and Recording Stop macros:
127
• Text shown on LCD display: Please begin speaking.
128
• And for the replay:
The first condition is met when an announcement is made with key 10 on the console.
The second condition is met when the message recorder can start the recording.
The link between the conditions and their macros is accomplished by triggers :
129
Trigger 1 starts the recording when key 10 on the console is pressed.
Trigger 2 responds to the recorder’s readiness message. After erasing the old message,
the Start To Speak message is shown on the LCD display. Erasing the old message may
take several seconds, depending on the specified message memory.
On the console, keys 9 and 10 must be prepared for replay and recording.
130
Key 10 starts a direct announcement and the recording:

ready inputs (surveillance inputs)
Prerequisites:
• DPM 4000
DPM 4000 Operating System, 0.526 or later.
With the ready input in the ProAnnounce system, logic entries can be monitored for
certain input levels. If the input level deviates from the required setting, the DPM 4000
fault relay is deactivated, and a fault message on the LCD display of one or all consoles
can be generated. The ready input settings are accessed by clicking on in the
Managing Macros window.
132
The following functions can be performed in this window:
Retrieving data from all ready inputs from the DP 4000 (upload). Only in online
mode.
Sending data from all ready inputs to the DP 4000 (download). Only in online mode.
READYINP column: When Clicking on Creating a New Ready Input, a standard name,
READYINP No., is assigned and may be edited for easier management as previously
described.
Input column: Double-clicking on this cell displays a list with possible logic inputs. An
input is selected by double-clicking it. This input is then monitored.
133
Level column: The entries in this cell can be set to on or off by double-clicking on them.
On means that the default state of this input is on; i.e. no fault message is generated in
this state. Off means that the default state of this input is off; i.e. no fault message is
generated in this state. For READY INPUTS, inputs that are on should be used if
possible.
Masked column: These entries can also be set to on or off by double-clicking on them. On
means the results of these entries are not being evaluated during standby of the ELA
system. (e.g. amplifiers that are not remote-capable do not generate a fault message
during this time.) Off means the input in continually monitored, including during standby.
Text column: Texts that are displayed on a console when a fault occurs may be selected
by double-clicking on them. They are more convenient for remote diagnosis and
troubleshooting. Texts 1 to 5 can be customized.
No. column : The texts ending in #%u are complemented with the number in this column.
This makes it possible that the displays Amplifier 1, Amplifier 2 are shown on the
display.
Status column: For a project linked with the DPM 4000, the current states are shown in
this column. This function may be activated by clicking on the word Status.
Delay Time For Masked Signals: When transitioning from standby to normal operation, it
is possible that the system is already on but the terminal stages are not yet operational,
due to their activation delay. Temporary fault messages would be the consequence. The
entered time (default 5 s, max. 25 s) specifies the time after which fault messages from
masked entries are accepted after the transition. The number may be edited and is
accepted by pressing RETURN after it has been entered.
Customized texts: Texts 1 to 5 can be used for customized entries. Texts are modified by
clicking on them twice, with a short pause between clicks. If a text ends in #%u, the text
in the display is complemented with an entry form the No. column.

DPM 4000 Operating System 0.51or later
Triggers in the ProAnnounce system are function elements that can establish a link
between conditions and macros. The window for creating and managing trigger entries is
Retrieving all trigger data from the DP 4000 (upload). Only in online mode.
Sending all trigger data to the DP 4000 (download). Only in online mode.
135
Trigger: When creating the new trigger entry, the default name Trigger 1 is assigned.
This name may be edited for better usability as previously described.
Condition: Double-clicking on this cell displays the conditions existing in the program. A
condition, after its selection, may be adopted by double-clicking on it or by clicking on it
and on OK.
Duration: Time entry to specify how long a condition must be true or must no longer be
true to perform the associated macro. Performing the macro is delayed by the time
entered here.
ON Macro: This macro is performed when the condition changes from false to true; i.e.
at the time the condition is met.
OFF Macro: This macro is performed when the condition changes from true to false; i.e.
at the time the condition is no longer met.

The clock is set by clicking on Clock. After double-clicking on the following button
In this menu, the DPM 4000 system clock (if time signals cannot be received
automatically) and the slave clocks can be set.
The clock may be stopped for setting by clicking on . The current time must be
entered in the following fashion: hh:mm:ss. The date is entered as follows: dd.mm.yyyy.
The day of the week is calculated automatically. After this entry, the clock is restarted by
clicking on again. When no DCF 77 reception is possible, the change from daylight
savings to standard time must be made manually.
Slave clocks
The slave clocks connected to the DPM 4000 must all be mechanically set to the same
time before they are activated. The Start button must be deactivated. The current time of
the slave clocks must be entered in the Slave Clock field, and this entry must be sent to
the DPM 4000 by clicking on (Setting Slave Clocks). Afterwards, the Start button
must be reactivated. From this time on, the DPM 4000 is setting the slave clocks to the
system time, either by adding pulses (every 5 seconds) or by waiting (max. 65 minutes).
137
If the slave clock connection is short-circuited, the indicator Overload lights up.
With the Invert button, a reversed polarity of the clock connection (slave clocks are 1
minute fast or slow) can be cancelled electrically.

Input: Chose the particular input for audio adjustments. For each input these adjustments
have to be done.
Aux – source: only active, when the particular input consists of an aux input. It shows the
information, which aux input is active.
Filter 1-3: For all inputs there can be selected different types of filter (filter 1 : LoCut,
LoShelv, PEQ; filter 2 : LoShelv, PEQ, HiShelv; filter 3 : HiCut, HiShelv, PEQ).
Depending on the selected type of the filter there must be adjusted the values for
frequency, Q / slope, and gain. The adjustments are transferred in real time to the DPM
4000, if the PC with the DPM 4000 is online. With that feature ist is possible to find the
correct adjustments by listening.
Bypass: With help of the bypass switches (common or per filter) alternating can be
heared the linear and the adjusted value. Also this adjustment is transferred to the DPM
4000 online.
172
Volume: The volume control is used to adjust the volume of the particular input. Also this
adjustment is transferred to the DPM 4000 online.
Please observe: with the use of virtual controllers this adjustment is overwritten by the
DPM 4000!
Mic/Line – input
Inputs for Mic / Line have to be changed with the switch to MIC or LINE before
further programming. Please observe, this is not a change of sensitivity for the hardware.
For changing the sensitivity follow the instructions of the DPM 4000 manual. Chosing
MIC leads to the following table:
173
Operating elements of microphones B (e. g. PTT – knob) have only functions by
programming with macros, conditions, and triggers.
Also in this case the function is to realise with macros, conditions, and triggers (except
background music).
Aux – input:
Connecting an Aux – unit inside the Designer leads to the following table:
Inputs for Aux – units can be switched in online mode (audio signals cannot be mixed):
174
DPM 4000 blockdiagram, output slots
prerequisites:
• none
The DPM 4000 has assembled by factory one output module NRS 90218. With that
module can be used two of the four audio outputs. A second module can be retrofitted. In
the Designer it is possible to add an output module with a right mouse click at the
particular slot.
To these audio outputs in the block diagram must be connectec the particular amplifiers.
This happens again with a right mouse click at the output slot. There is basically to
observe, whether remoteable or nonremoteable amplifiers are to be used.
With the menu item Add amplifiers there can be done the selection of amplifiers:
175
Remoteable amplifiers are DPA 4120 + NRS 90222 and DPA 4140 + NRS 90222, also
DPA 4411. All other amplifiers are not to be remote controlled via the RS 485 – network.
When chosing the 4 channel amplifiers DPA 4410 and DPA 4411 additional has to be
observed, which configuration of the units has been taken. It must be adjusted in the
submenu.
176
For every audio ouput there can be adjusted the output volume. The adjustments are
transferred to the DPM 4000 at the same time, if the designer is online connected to the
unit. Please observe, use of virtual controllers overwrites the volume adjustment.
Additional there exists for every output the possibility, to add an audio – delay. This
delay is only working if the corresponding paycode is entered one time. The unit can be
given in milliseconds (ms), meter, or feet. The maximum delay time for each output is
330 ms.
DPM 4000 paging station programming
prerequisites:
• none
The input slots of the DPM 4000 can be assembled with different input modules. After
beginning a new project, the input slots are drawn empty, and with a right mouse click at
the empty slot there opens a menu with the selection of available modules:
The selection of the module to use is to be done with a left mouse click. This module is
then shown graphically in the input slot. Depending on the module type there can follow
different menues for maintaining input modules.
177
The paging station is shown with a symbol for the paging station, with the type of the

the key shall be active in protected mode.
Key for starting a macro (function in DPM 4000). There must be defined
the following parameters:
187
Which macro shall be started
Key can work as a trigger , then there is no function by releasing the key
(e.g. lights on)
Key can work as a button, then there it is necessary, which function has to
188
be perfomed when releasing the key (named as macro B),
e. g. key is pressed, louvre is moving up, key is released,
louvre is stopped.
Key can work as a switch, then there it is necessary, which function has to
be perfomed when pressing the key a second time (named as macro B),
e. g press first time - lights on - press second time - lights off. The status
of the switch is signalised at the corresponding LED of the particular key.
Key can work as a radio button field (button field, where the pressed
key releases all other keys of the field). As parameter for these buttons
of the button field there must be given the button field number
(all buttons the same number for one field). There can be defined
max. 10 button fields.
189
Alarm keys and retrofittable keys or key switches can be changed in
their graphic representation by the properties of the key.

An output module NRS 90218 is assembled from factory into the DPM 4000. 2 of the 4
audio-outputs can be used with it. A further module is available and can be added in the
Designer, via a right mouse click.
194
Then, a click on 2-channel line output module in this menu adds the module
The selection can be made via the menu item add amplifiers.
Amplifiers with remote control are DPA 4120 + NRS 90222 and 4140 + NRS 90222 as
well as DPA 4411. All other amplifiers cannot be controlled remotely via the RS 485 –
network.
When using the 4-channel amplifiers DPA 4410 and 4411, additionally their
configuration has to observed. In the submenu, the application can be assigned.
195
Here is the possibility to adjust the output volume for every output. These adjustments are
immediately transferred to the DPM 4000, if the Designer is online. Please note that,
when using virtual controllers, this adjustment can be overwritten by the programming of
the DPM 4000.
For every output there is the possibility to adjust an audio delay. The audio delay only
works if the corresponding feature code has been entered. The unit can be quoted in
milliseconds (msec), metres or feet. The maximum delay time is 330 msec for every
output.
After having added one or several amplifiers, the following (or a similar) block diagram
appears:
196
Amplifier names can be changed according to the project
A double click at one of the amplifiers symbols leads to the window Amplifier properties.
On the left side of this window, you can see an overview of all amplifiers connected,
including the corresponding number of channels (1-, 2- or 4-channel amplifier).
197
Example for a 2-channel amplifier without remote control function:
198
In the category configuration, the type of the device can subsequently be modified in
Amplifier.
If the amplifier has remote control, the button Adr. xx indicates the agreed address of the
amplifier. The addresses are assigned automatically by the designer, beginning with 0
(hexadecimal). If necessary, the addresses can be changed. With a click on this button,
changes to the addresses can be made. The previously active amplifier is marked (in
grey) together with its address. Via a click to a free address and the following
confirmation with ok, a different address is assigned. It is important to assign the address
physically at the amplifier by address switches before the operating voltage is applied.
199
Via the selection menu for 1. channel … 4. channel (according to the amplifier type), the
allocation from the audio output of the DPM 4000 to the different amplifier channels can
be assigned.
A click on the button Spare leads to the management of spare amplifiers and the
automatic switching to spare amplifiers.
A click at the button Advanced (only possible with amplifiers having remote control
function) leads to the management of amplifiers with remote control
200
Last error indicates the error message the amplifier issued last.
Relay mapping indicates the number of the integral priority relays (if applicable).
Extras:
Pilottone detection indicates if a corresponding conversion kit has been installed
Ground fault detection indicates if a corresponding conversion kit has been installed
READY detection indicates if the amplifier is ready or not
Power source: display and operation possibility for On / Off of mains power supply and
battery power supply
Pilottone generator: allows the switching of the pilottone generator On / Off
Ground fault: reset of a ground fault error reported
Channel 1 … channel 4
Level indicates the current input and output level of the amplifier selected (IN / OUT)
Volume allows the volume control of the corresponding channel
(Attention: If virtual controllers have been programmed, this adjustment
can automatically be modified by the controllers!)
OFS allows offset-adjustment
Mute: while the button is pressed, the amplifier channel is muted
Pilottone: pilottone monitoring (if provided)
Ground fault: ground fault monitoring (if provided)
Overtemperature: indicates if overtemperature occurs in the amplifier
Configuration: indicates the output configuration which is currently assigned (e.g. 100 V
4 channels). This configuration must be in accordance with the configuration assigned in
the Designer!
U / I measurement: indicates the last values measured of current and voltage.
201
A right mouse click at an inserted amplifier leads to the entering menu of a so-called
Relay topology.
202
Direct topology:
Direct - topology: In this topology, a speaker line is directly connected to the output of
the amplifier. Every input signal of the amplifier can be directly heard at the speakers.
The number of zones usually must be quoted with 1. In special cases only, this number
can be quoted higher than 1(e.g. when using control or priority relais). The input routing
can be modified via the menus Input (1. Input ... 4. Input).
1 in N-topology:
203
1 in N – topology. In this topology, the individual speaker lines are connected via relay,
type DCS 408 / 408R. The amplifier signal only becomes audible if the corresponding
line relay is activated. Thus, pages or BGM can selectively be distributed to the speaker
lines. The disadvantage of this topology is the fact that the BGM of one line is interrupted
if a page is made into another speaker line.
204
Via the entry Number of zones, the number of the corresponding speaker lines can be
quoted.
The entry first relay indicates the particular relay of the type DCS 408 / 408R which is
first used for this topology. Usually, this entry is made automatically and the next free
relay is taken. For adaption or in case of special wiring, the entry can be modified.
Important: the relays must have been inserted in the Designer already!
Program/Page - topology:
205
In the Program/Page – topology, 2 relays, type DCS 408 / 408R are used for every
speaker line; furthermore, each amplifier has to be provided in duplicate. The advantage
of this kind of power allocation from the amplifiers is the fact that the BGM in other
speaker lines does not have to be interrupted during pages.
206
Via the entry Number of zones, the number of the corresponding speaker lines can be
quoted.
The entry First background relay indicates the particular relay of the type DCS 408 /
408R which is first used for the switching of BGM. Usually, this entry is made
automatically and the next free relay is taken. For adaption or in case of special wiring,
the entry can be modified.
Important: the relays must have been inserted in the Designer already!
The entry First page relay indicates the particular relay of the type DCS 408 / 408R
which is first used for the switching of speech, chime, alarm or text output. Usually, this
entry is made automatically and the next free relay is taken. For adaption or in case of
special wiring, the entry can be modified.
Important: the relays must have been inserted in the Designer already!
Group management: With a right mouse click on a speaker symbol, a speaker group,
which simplifies the operation on the paging console, can be added via Add new group.
207
The particular speaker lines which are intended to be part of the corresponding group
must be shifted via drag and drop from the left side of the lines-and-groups window to the
right side. The corresponding group must have been selected before.
208
The names of speaker lines and groups can be changed according to the project names.
In some applications it is necessary to do the switching for page and BGM not at the
amplifier outputs, but with the audio inputs. For that purpose there is not existing a
special topology. The programming for this type of routing must be done with priority
relays and control relays of the type DCS 409 / DCS 409R. (The block diagram only
shows 1-pole wiring).
