Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation
The Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation was formed in April 1998 to promote a
caring Malaysian society towards animal.
Mission Statement:
Since its inception in April 1998, the Foundation has been involved in various activities, among
them, organizing animal welfare weeks, human-animal interaction programs, public seminars on
responsible pet ownership and canine behavior training courses. It jointly participated in
community events such as pet shows and spay/neuter campaigns with local animal welfare
groups and government agencies.
A major project that the Foundation initiated with the support of the Ministry of Education in 2002
was an animal welfare education program for schools. The objectives of this ongoing program
are to promote human-animal interaction as part of child development, encourage a wider
awareness of and respect for all living things and inculcate responsible and caring attitudes.
Activities include teaching on pet care, human-animal interaction, art, drama and visits to zoos,
animal parks and animal shelters, all designed to make the learning creative and enjoyable.
The Foundation works closely with local government agencies, animal welfare associations and
pet clubs. It will continue with its commitment and efforts to promote animal welfare in the
country and provide support to various organizations in matters associated with animal welfare.
We realize that animals play a role in our lives in many ways, either directly or indirectly. Besides
providing protection and companionship, they are effective with children, the elderly and even
the disabled. More recently animals are being used therapeutically to improve the physical and
emotional health of people; to relieve stress, depression and lower high blood pressure levels,
being some of the examples. We can thus tap their potential so they can contribute more
towards enhancing our society.
In order for us to proceed with our efforts, we are counting on compassionate people like you
who 'love all life' to assist us with your valuable contributions, so we can work collectively
towards improving our society and building our nation
Volunteers
We welcome volunteers who would like to participate in our activities, either on a regular basis or
for specific projects. There are three main categories in which one can assist, namely, education
and awareness (public seminars, animal welfare week, human-animal interaction programs,
spay/neuter campaigns, printed material), fund-raising (movies, dinners, design and production
of merchandising items) and membership drives (information booth at pet shows and other
events).
