Plan of Investigation
I have chosen to write about street children to inform people about the challenges and
struggles that street children encounter in their everyday life also to find out the reason
they became homeless. As a student of English this research will improve my
comprehension and thinking skill. It will also extend my vocabulary. Also I will learn
how to construct sentences. I intend to collect the necessary information by using a song,
a poem and a video.
Artifact #1
Poem
A Street Child
by Edward Kofi Louis
Artifact #2
Song
By troye sivan
Yesterday I read the news that twenty million Asian children are homeless
They've been abandoned by the people they love
They've been beaten down so hard they can't get up.

Reflection #1
The poem ‘A Street Child’ shaped the researcher perspective of being a street child. I
have learnt that being a street child is very challenging. Also, I have a greater
understanding on how parents forces children to resides on the streets.
The second piece is a video the researcher download. The video showed real life images
of the struggles of street children. It helps the researcher to understand that street
children is more serious that other people may think. The researcher learnt that street
children are increasing greatly and also poor living conditions.
Lastly, the song ‘For Them’ shaped the researcher understanding that many street children
are struggling to survive. The researcher learnt of the vast number of homeless street
children.
Reflection #2
Both the poem and song were written in diction where by the writer choose free words
of choice. Also Interrogative Sentences and rhyming words were used in the poem
“Street Child”.
In the video “Street Child” and in the song “For Them” both had a depressing tone also
a sign of hate was presented in the poem “Street Child”.
Although the pieces were written in standard English. it was easy for the researcher to
grasp the concept of the song and the poem.
Reflection #3
The English SBA helped the researcher to become a better person by improving the
communication among peers and by improving the researcher ability to carry out tasks as
a team.
In the process of doing this SBA, it has enhanced the researcher ability to socialize and
to respect other views and opinions. The researcher learnt to take on responsibilities to
act in leadership roles to understand the importance to meet deadlines.
The SBA also helped the researcher to understand concepts and to analyze poems and
articles based on the topic. The researcher expanded his vocabulary, comprehension skill
and the ability to analyze materials. Furthermore was able to emphasize a neutral
perspective on the topic of Street Children.
Written Report
The successful completion of the SBA relied on the execution of some procedures. Firstly the various
themes were discussed together as a class. Students formed groups of four based on their chosen topic.
The topic chosen by our group members was ‘’Street Children’’. The group members were then given
individually the tasks to choose a subtopic, pertaining to the theme which was selected. The plan of
investigation was then composed with the help of the pieces chosen individually. Reflections one and
two were written. Reflection 3 and the oral presentation would be done after the written.
Each group member gathered 3 pieces relevant to the sub topic chosen. Each of the pieces were
carefully examined by the group and the best three pieces were chosen. The three pieces chosen were a
poem named ‘’ Grieving Daughter’’ by Evony Angle, a song by Ludacris featuring Mary J Blige titled ‘’Run
Away Love’’ and a song ‘’Family Portrait’’ by Pink. The three pieces were scrutinized by the group. The
poem ‘’Grieving Daughter’’, by Evony Angle is based upon the negligence of a parent and how it can
cause the child to feel rejected and emotionally unbalanced. The tone in this poem is depressing
because of the rhyming words which help to bring out the mood and set an imagery in our minds. The
poem id formal and easer to grasped because of the writer’s free word of choice.
The song ‘’ Run Away Love’’ by Ludacris featuring Mary J Blige was very enlightening. It explained to us
that the negligence of parents and can lead to unstable homes and affect the innocence of children. The
negligence of parent in the song and the lack of love. Understanding and everything that makes a
household stable are the causes of children running away. The tone used was sad and depressing,
quoted by the artiste, ‘’ she’s trying to figure out why the world is so cold’’. Repetition, ‘’Run Away Love’’
the artiste emphasis on the lyrics to tell us the listeners, the goals of the girls, which is to run away,
because of their unstable homes. The songwriter used informal language for teenagers who can relate
to the song.
The song ‘’Family Portrait’’ by Pink highlighted how emotionally difficult it is for a girl to understand the
challenges, problems and situations that her family face with domestic violence and how the situation is
so drastic that when she tried to get them back together it failed. It also show that an unstable
household can affect a child’s emotion and sense of belonging, and that she would rather leave home
than to mirror the effects of domestic violence. The tone used by the songwriter was of sadness and
distress because she tried so hard to get her family back together but continuously failed. The mood of
the song was of commiseration, because the songwriter felt sympathy for the unfortunate situation.
In conclusion, this part of the SBA was successful with the help of each group member and our teacher.
The group members developed communication skills, as well as listening skills and was able to function
as to team to complete this part of the SBA. The group members also was able to understand the
importance of team work and the how imperative each member.
Oral Presentation
Poem
Street Children
In the dead stillness of the night, only poor shadows are in sight.
Neglected by their parents, they feed like worms to survive.
They have nothings to call their own, no blankets, no shoes except their empty souls.
They don’t feel loved, they don’t feel protected, they don’t feel being cared for,
they are who we call street children. They don’t wake up in a cozy bed or without rain drops
falling on their heads but rather instead a cardboard box and rats to feast on the dead.
The sound of the laughter of the passers by, who mocks them then followed by lies.No one cares
to imagine their pain, they are only innocent children to suffer in vein.Besides their stained face,
wet legs and muddy traces, they stand their all alone with no umbrella or a phone, a pity sight to
see them trembling in the cold night. The world doesn’t care for they are called street children.
Come on parents, come on friends, Its your responsibility too to make this end. Stop the abuse in
order to reduce, stop the neglect to end the effect. Give them protection, give them love.
They are your children born of innocent. Care for them, for they are called street children.
