Description: Inspired by The Little Mermaid, this soft textured baby blanket is

perfect for pictures or keeping warm in a stroller or carseat!

Size: 30 x 30”

Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate, requires knowledge of single crochet, double

crochet, and chain stitches. An understanding of shell stitches is needed as well.

Materials: 750-900 yards soft worsted weight yarn. In the example, I used Red

Heart Soft

Size H (5.00mm) crochet hook

Yarn needle to weave in ends.

Abbreviations (American terms):


CH – chain stitch SC – single crochet DC – double crochet
Pattern:
Chain 95

Foundation row: Dc in 4th chain from hook. *skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch (shell). Skip 2 ch, 1 dc in
next 2 ch (2 dc pair). Repeat from * across.

Row 1: Ch 3, 2 dc between 1st and 2nd dc. Skip 3 dc. 1 dc on either side of middle dc of 5 dc
shell (before and after 3rd dc of shell), skip 3 dc, * 5 dc in space between 2 dc pair. Skip 3 dc, 1
dc on either side of middle dc of 5 dc shell (before and after 3rd dc of shell), skip 3 dc. Repeat
from * ending with 3 dc in space between last dc and turning chain.
Row 2: Ch 3, 1 dc between turning chain and 1st dc, * skip next 3 dc. 5 dc in space between 2 dc
pair. skip 3 dc, 1 dc before and 1 dc after 3rd dc of shell. Repeat from * to last 3 dc of previous
row. Skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in turning chain.
Repeat row 1 and 2 until blanket is a square, approximately 55 rows including foundation. Turn.

Edging:
Round 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in first stitch (chain does not count as sc) mark 1st sc as corner stitch. 90 sc
across. 2 sc in last stitch. mark 2nd sc as corner stitch.

Sc evenly along 2nd edge of blanket, 92 sc.

2 sc in first stitch of 3rd edge. Mark 1st stitch as corner stitch. 90 sc across. 2 sc in last stitch.
mark 2nd sc as corner stitch.

Sc evenly along 4th edge of blanket, 92 sc. Sl stitch to 1st corner stitch.

You should have 4 marked corner stitches with 92 sc in between each edge.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc 3 times in same space. Mark middle sc as corner stitch. *Sc in each stitch
across. In next corner stitch, sc 3 times, mark middle stitch. repeat from * twice. Sc across to
first 3 stitch cluster. Slip stitch to 1st stitch. 94 sc between each corner stitch.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. 3 sc in marked corner stitch. Mark middle stitch as corner
stitch. * Sc across. 3 sc in marked corner stitch. Mark center stitch as corner. Rep from *twice.
Sc across to first sc. Slip stitch in first sc. 96 sc between each corner stitch.

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. **Skip next stitch. Ch1 (dc, ch2, dc, ch2, dc, ch1) in marked
corner stitch. Mark middle dc as corner. Skip next sc. Sc in next 6 sc. *Ch2, skip 2 sc, (dc, ch2,
dc, ch2, dc) in next sc, ch2, skip 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc. Repeat from * 7 times. 8 shells total, 9
sections of 6 sc.

Repeat from ** to last 5 sc of round. Sc 5 times, join to first sc. Fasten off.
