MY FAVORITE FOOD
Hello. My name is Sarah. I’m twelve years old and I live in London. I have a big
family: I live with my parents and my twin sisters Jane and Sue. Everybody thinks
we have the traditional English breakfast: fried bread, sausages, bacon and eggs,
tomatoes, baked beans and mushrooms…ah ah! But there is no time, of course! We
usually have a glass of milk with bread and butter or cereals like corn flakes. I prefer
my cereals with yoghurt. I have a snack in the morning: always a piece of fruit.
I have lunch at about one o’clock. My favorite food is spaghetti with meat balls and
a fresh glass of orange juice. I don’t like rice. For dessert I love vanilla ice cream.
Yummy! In the afternoon I normally eat a cheese sandwich. At about half past eight
we have dinner. We always eat soup. I like vegetable soup very much. We often
have fish and salad.
After dinner we like to watch “Matilda Ramsay” or “MasterChef” on TV. Before I
go to bed, I like to drink hot chocolate. My parents prefer drinking tea.

My favorite places at school
Hi, my name is Mary. I study in a big and beautiful school surrounded by sunflowers.
I love it because it has fascinating places where I can be.
When it´s sunny I like to ´play with my Friends on the school playground; it has a
swing and a slide. When I want to read, I go to the school library on the third floor
and choose some books.
When I don´t understand my homework I go to the teachers´ lounge, and teachers help
me to see the right way to do it.
I don´t have to bring a snack to school because it has a big cafeteria where the food is
delicious. In the cafeteria I enjoy talking to my Friends while I am having a snack.
For my leisure activities, I can choose between practicing sports at the school gym
and cultural outdoor activities, such as landscape painting or nature photography.

Activity twelve
One morning in the life of Melanie
Hello, I am Melanie, and let me tell you about my life in the countryside. I live in a
big far, outside the capital city. I love it; there is no pollution and no noise. I have
miles of land where I can run or walk-through mountains, rivers, lakes and hills.
There are many animals that make my day at the farm.
In the morning I go with my father to milk the cow, then I go to the henhouse and
collect fresh and yummy eggs for breakfast. My morning finishes when I visit the
horses at the stable. On Fridays my father lets me ride a beautiful brown pony for 30
minutes. Life at the farm is very nice and you always have fun.
Activity fourteen
A terrific cook
Do you see how slim I am? It’s not on purpose and it’s not my nature either; there’s a
good reason for me keeping in shape: Mom. She’s a disaster in the kitchen, and
besides being unable to fry an egg properly, she always causes accidents. I can’t keep
track of all the times the kitchen was on fire (4? 5?) because of something weird she
decided to do, despite of our advice to keep out of the kitchen – especially the stove.
She doesn’t pay attention to our advice and we have to eat what she prepares – or at
least we eat what we can – so we live constantly on an undesired diet.
The last time she tried to prepare roast beef the result was a burning kitchen; Dad
could barely save the family and extinguish the fire. When she goes to the kitchen
we start fearing for our lives (and stomachs) and thinking of a sickness we’ll fake in
order to avoid the “result”.
Despite the bad cook we have at home; our house is always full of guests for lunch
and dinner. I suspect they come just to have fun watching the disasters. And – of
course – they want to be the first to tell our friends what her latest calamity was like.
Mark true (T) or false (F) according to the text. You have to explain orally
when it’s false:
The girl’s mother is a terrific cook. ( )
The girl’s mom tends to cause accidents in the kitchen. ( )
The girl’s mother knows how to cook. ( )
The girl’s mom gave up cooking. ( )
The family asks the woman to stop cooking. ( )
The woman keeps cooking and doesn’t listen to her family. ( )
They have to eat what she cooks. ( )
She set fire in the kitchen more than once. ( )
They have guests because they appreciate her food. ( )
The girl used two strong words to refer to her mom’s accidents in the kitchen. What
are they? Why do you think she has chosen them?
