Netflix and NFL come to terms for Streaming Rights

NEW YORK- The National Football League announced early Wednesday Morning that they

have agreed to join hands with online streaming giant Netflix, to exclusively livestream 54

games every year from the 2022 Season upto the 2030 Season.

“We are very excited about this partnership. This is the first time that we (Netflix) have ventured

into live programming,” Roger Goodell, Netflix Chief Executive Officer said.

Netflix has acquired the exclusive streaming rights for Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night

Football and Monday Night Football.

This service will be available to Standard and Premium Netflix Plan users, for more details on
the different Netflix Plan Structure, please visit netflix.com/plans

Netflix will be paying NFL $4.75 billion each year, the package will include exclusive rights to

TNF, SNF, MNF and additional NFL licensed coverage and content. Currently, ESPN pays $1.9

billion annually for streaming rights to MNF along with other exclusive NFL coverage and

content. FOX Sports pays $660 million for TNF. NBC pays $950 million a year for streaming

rights to SNF. Netflix officials stated that they will be sharing their production rights with CBS for
the first two years. Netflix Sponsorship Director Katie Spanor said, “The decision to partner with

CBS was a thoughtful one, since we are new to the game, we would like to have a look over

their production and broadcasting playbooks so that we can provide the viewers utmost

excitement and enjoyment. We will stick to our personal advertisement channels though.”

Netflix has been utilizing its personal advertisement and sponsorship channel for the past year,

when they first introduced advertisements for their on-demand content. Netflix experts estimate

advertisement pricing to vary in the range from $400,000 to $1.5 million for a 30 second

duration. For more information about NFL advertisement please visit nfl.com/business/ads.

The NFL Network channel will also be transitioned over to Netflix to become NFL on Netflix as a

part of the partnership. This will come with a plethora of on-demand programs and Gameday

programs such as “Inside NFL,” “The first 100,” “All or Nothing,” “NFL Total Access,” “Good

Morning Football” and a host of other documentaries and gameday highlights. Netflix will be

launching new Original Documentaries and Series for NFL on Netflix as well.

Apart from the 54 season games, through their agreement with CBS, Netflix will also be able to

livestream preseason and playoff games which will be telecasted premierly on CBS Network.

Viewers will be able to stream these games on CBS Access free of cost as well.
