Fintech Construction Site Visit
Fintech Construction Site Visit
Fintech Construction Site Visit
Within our seminar class, we had the pleasure of visiting the ongoing fintech project on
STAR campus. We gathered on a windy day and prepared to enter the site. We were greeted by
the project managers and then had the opportunity to speak to them about the project. The PM
we spoke to talked to us about his past experiences within the construction field, and then
explained some details about the project’s life cycle and schedule. Secondly, we went into the
next trailer across, where we were greeted by another project manager. This presentation
explained the budgetary side of the project. He spoke to us about the estimate for all the work
being done and showed us how he keeps track of all of the contractural estimations to the
actual price. According to him, the project is doing quite well and the team is actually a couple
million under for their progress. After we wrapped up the estimation we began to head off into
the site. In front of us stood a massive six-story structural frame of what’s yet to come. We took
a lift up to the roof and began to ascend down. The roof was still in the process, and most of it
was metal sheathing. As we began our ascend down we saw that the construction team was
keeping up with good OSHA regulations and keeping everything intact and safe. Everything was
clean, safe, and efficient. We saw the subcontractors performing some electrical tasks on one
floor. The crew informed us that the slabs for some of the floors were poured in not long ago,
but they seemed to have a good move on the project. As we ascended down we also saw them
spray fire repellent on some of the structural columns. That’s not something I have ever
witnessed so I thought it was interesting. As we ascended down each floor we saw that the crew
was working in a top-down approach. As we ascended to the second floor we saw a huge cut
out within the corner of the floor slab, protected by a sturdy wooden railing. Lastly, we ascended
down to the last floor, one thing I noticed was that there was no slab on this floor. The crew
informed us that it was due to weather conditions. The water from the rain would drip onto the
bottom slab and over-saturate it. Overall, I left the site feeling more informed and alert of the
construction Project. I found this trip to be very interesting and I’m excited to witness more work
being done in the future.
