1 GENERAL
1.1 Scope
This procedure explains the system regarding the handling, storing and preservation
materials supplied by PT. LANGGENG KARYA TEKNIK. The handling and warehousing
materials shall be executed safely and adequately in the following manners:
1.1.1 All material shall be stored according to category, classification and size.
Materials shall be neatly stored in such manner that they can be easily identified.
1.1.2 All material shall be handled safely and supposed to use properly device.
1.2 Terminology
In this specification, the following words and terms shall have the meanings hereby
assigned to them, unless noted otherwise.
1.2.1 Owner/Client
Refer to PT. RIAU ANDALAN PULP & PAPER as the ultimate user and operator.
1.2.2 Contractor
Refers to PT. LANGGENG KARYA TEKNIK selection, which may be responsible for the
detailed engineering design, material and equipment procurement, and construction as
specified in Contract, Scope of Work.
1.2.3 Vendor
Refers to the company selected by OWNER / CLIENT or CONTRACTOR, which is responsible
for the purchase agreement or purchase order of the goods/services specified in this specification
Note:
 For EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) project purposes: The terminology
shall have the meanings as above.
 For “ Direct Procurement” by OWNER / CLIENT purposes: Vendor shall also be
responsible as CONTRACTOR.
1.3 Conflicting Requirements
1.3.1 In case of conflict between this Specification and its associated Specifications and the above
Codes and Standards, the Vendor shall bring the matter to the OWNER / CLIENT’s
attention for resolution and approval in writing. However, the most stringent requirement
shall apply.
1.3.2 Should conflicts exist between this specification and other documents, the following
order of precedence shall govern:

 This Specification
 Other OWNER / CLIENT Specifications
 Other Referenced Publication
 Approved for Construction Drawings

2 GENERAL HANDLING AND STORING METHODS


2.1 The storing methods for equipment or material can be on the flour, on a shelf, on a pallet, on a
rack and on a hanger.
2.2 CONTRACTOR shall handle & warehouse all equipment & materials per
MANUFACTURER’S Instructions, Specifications, and Guidelines
2.3 Material or equipment may be stored in open storage or indoor storage (warehouse)
facilities. Applicable storing instruction shall be followed for storing and preservation the
quality of the material or equipment during storage.
2.4 Special handling or storing may be required for some equipment. The specification and
manufacturer’s data must be reviewed to determine if special storing and method are
required.
2.5 For preservation from fire, a sufficient number of portable fire extinguishers shall be
provided at suitable location in the warehouse. All warehouse personnel must be trained in the
use of portable fire extinguisher.
2.6 Storage areas must be accessible to truck and mobile equipment that will be required in
unloading and moving items from storage to point of erection, provide security from
damage, theft, vandalism and allow controlled disbursement of store materials or
equipment.
2.7 Timber, planks, pallets or racks must be used to support the items so that not contact with the
ground, clear of dirt and mud, allowing circulation of air and providing passage for sliding and
lift-forks underneath, as required.
2.8 The items stored in warehouse shall be placed on cribbing, pallet or racks to keep them clear
from the ground and to allow circulation of air to prevent condensation
2.9 Temporary roofed and walled areas shall be adequate to maintain items in a clean.
Adequate blocking shall be provided to support the equipment.
2.10 Non-conforming materials shall be segregated, appropriately tagged and stored separately from
other conforming materials. Tagging of non-conforming materials shall indicate, for example;
damage, vendor supply/replacement, insurance claim pending, not within specification, etc.
2.11 All precision and delicate material shall be adequately protected from dust by enveloping with
plastic sheets or other suitable materials.

3 CLASSIFICATION OF STORAGE
Classification of materials for storage is largely divided as follows:
 Indoor (warehouse) storage
 Outdoor storage
3.1 Indoor (Warehouse) Storage
3.1.1 Piping Materials
All Piping materials shall be stored according to category, classification and size.

3.1.1.1 Pipe and Tube


 Non-ferrous metal pipe shall be stored on shelves to avoid damage.
 Tube shall be stored on floor on sleeper.
 Hoses shall be stored on pallets in parallel rows, or stacked with separating
timbers between each hose.
3.1.1.2 Fittings
 Fittings shall be stored on pallets or shelves in either one layer, stepped
or a pyramid formation.
 Reducer shall be stored on pallets or shelves in a pyramid formation.
 Small size fittings such as couplings and nipples shall be stored in the
individual boxes identified by type, size and material specification.
3.1.1.3 Flanges
 Flanges shall be stacked on shelves or stacked on pallets with
separating timbers between them maximum in two layers and shall be
grouped by rating, diameter and material specification.
 All flange faces (machined) must have a protective coating, factory applied
and extreme care must be taken during handling to avoid damage. If
damage occurs, it must be reported to QA/QC and required repair.
3.1.1.4 Valves
 Manual, automatic and relief valves shall be stored on shelves or on pallets,
in one layer and segregated by tag number and size.
3.1.1.5 Bolts and Nuts
 Bolts with nuts shall be stored separately in bins, bags or boxes by type,
diameter, length, material, and identification number from each fabricator
(only apply for steel structure bolt and nut).
 Washer shall be stored separately in bags or boxes by type, diameter and
material.
 In case rusting appears, they shall be soaked in rust proofing oil and greased.
3.1.1.6 Gasket and Packing
 Sheets and non- metallic gaskets shall be stored on shelves, stacked and
segregated by rating and size.
 Metallic gaskets shall be stored on shelves, stacked in greaseproof wrapping
and segregated by rating and diameters.
3.1.1.7 Spring Hangers
Spring hanger shall be stored on pallets, in one layer, according to the order of
the support number. Care must be taken at the time of unpacking not to cause
any confusion on hanger and component parts.

3.1.1.8 Welding Rods


Welding rods shall be stored indoors in sealed cans, in a dry secure place.
Welding rods in cardboard containers or in containers with the seal broken must
be stored in a heated oven.
3.1.2 Electrical materials

3.1.2.1 Electrical wire shall be stored in a well-ventilated area and segregated by type
and size.
3.1.2.2 Distribution and control panels shall be stored on timbers or pallets, clear from
the floor, in a well-ventilated or air-conditioned area, when climatic conditions
are required.
3.1.2.3 Motors shall be stored on pallets in a well-ventilated area. All accessories and
spare parts shall be correctly identified, tagged and stored on shelves.
3.1.2.4 Transformers, current transformers and disconnect switches designed for indoor
service shall be stored on pallets in a well- ventilated area.
3.1.2.5 Grounding connectors and cad weld cartridges shall be stored indoors.
3.1.2.6 Meters, switches and relays shall be stored on shelves in a dry, well- ventilated
area to avoid damage by heat or humidity.
3.1.3 Instrumentation materials
3.1.3.1 All instruments shall be stored indoors.
3.1.3.2 Control panels and DCS shall be stored on timbers or pallets without unpacking
in a well ventilated or air-conditioned area in accordance with the Vendor’s
instruction
3.1.3.3 Meters, switches and relays shall be stored on shelves in a dry, well ventilated
area to avoid damage by heat or humidity and shall be handled carefully to
avoid damage.
3.1.3.4 Potentiometers shall not be exposed to temperatures below 0ºC and above
50ºC or as per manufacture’s recommendation.
3.1.3.5 Analyzers shall be stored on pallets in a well-ventilated area. If special
conditions of storage are required, the Vendor’s instruction shall be followed.
3.1.3.6 Orifice Pallets less than 4” in diameter shall be stored on shelves. Larger than
4” in diameter shall be stored on pallets in one layer. Care is to be taken to
avoid damages to their protective wrappings.

3.1.4 Vessels, Heat Exchanger and Rotating equipment


3.1.4.1 Storing for these equipment shall comply with manufacture’s / Vendor’s
instruction.
3.1.4.2 Indoor storage is preferred with consider to space and handling when they will
erected/installed.
3.1.4.3 Nozzles and any holes shall covered with blind flanges or any proper materials
to protected form dust, foreign material or some animal which may entered the
holes.
3.1.4.4 All accessories spare parts there of shall be correctly identified, tagged and
stored on shelves or pallets.
3.1.5 Oil, Gases and Paint
3.1.5.1 Oils, gases and painting materials shall be stored in an isolated area or isolated
section of the warehouse.
3.1.5.2 The containers (drums or cans) of painting materials shall be reversed twice a
month.
3.1.6 Heat Insulation Materials
Heat insulation materials shall be stored on pallets and segregated by material, size and
thickness.
3.1.7 Coating and Wrapping Materials
Coating and wrapping materials shall be stored indoors. Rolls of wrapping material
shall be stored on their circumference not on their round side.
3.2 Outdoor Storage
3.2.1 Piping Materials
All piping material shall be segregated by size, schedule and material
specifications.
3.2.1.1 Straight Pipe
 Pipe shall be stacked on sleepers in a stepped formation, with the bottom
layer of pipe seated on timber sleepers and subsequent layers separated by
chocks and wedges to facilitate safe handling. Thin wall pipes shall be no
more than three (3) layers high.
 Pipes shall be fitted with secure end caps to avoid ingress of
rainwater or mud. All carbon steel, austenite and 410SS piping shall be
physically separated.
 PVC (plastic) pipes, which deteriorated by exposure to sunlight, shall be
protected by adequate cover.
3.2.1.2 Fittings
 All fittings shall be stored on pallets with special care to avoid any damage
to bevel ends.
 Where a protection cover for bevel end is furnished, checked such protection
cover is correctly fitted.

 Elbows, tees, etc. shall be stored with open ends facing downwards to avoid
collecting dirt and rainwater.
3.2.1.3 Flanges
 Necked flanges and blind (plate) flanges shall be stored on pallets in single
layer if there is possible or enough storage space. Unless the space is not
large enough, flanges may be stacked in layers with timber spacers
between each layer.

 All flanges faces (machined) must have a protective coating, factory applied,
and extreme care must be taken during handling to avoid damage. If
damage occurs, this must be reported to QA/QC and required repair.
3.2.1.4 Valves
Manually operated valves shall be stored on pallets in a single layer with caps
fitted to both ends to prevent the ingress of rainwater, mud, etc.
3.2.1.5 Spring Hangers
Spring hanger shall be stored on pallets or sleepers, the spring barrel to be
wrapped with a waterproof material
3.2.1.6 Steel Section
Steel sections shall be stacked on sleepers, flanges down to avoid the collection
of rainwater.
3.2.1.7 Steel Plate
Steel plate shall be stored flat on sleepers with separating timbers to allow
safe handling. Steel plate shall be stored in such a way as not to cause
deformation.
3.2.2 Electrical Material
3.2.2.1 Cable Drums
 Cable drums shall be stored off the ground under shelter in a single layer
with timber chocks to avoid movement and in such a position as to allow
cable drums to be easily picked out
 Cut ends shall be capped and taped and the residual length of cable indicated
on each drum.
3.2.2.2 Transformers
Transformers shall be stored indoor, except in the following cases:
 Transformer designed for outdoor service.
 Large size indoor unit, when indoor storage is not feasible by
providing adequate shelter.
3.2.2.3 Motors
 Motors shall be packed remain until installation, unless any damage is found
during visual inspection.

 Accessories and spare parts for motors shall be stored inside the warehouse
after unpacking.
3.2.2.4 Insulators
Insulators shall be repacked after inspection and store in their original packing
case to prevent any damage.
3.2.2.5 Rigid Steel Conduit and Fittings
 Conduit shall be stored free from the ground
 Protective snap caps shall be fitted to both threaded ends.
 All exposed threads shall be coated with corrosion preventive
compound.
3.2.2.6 Grounding Materials
Conductors and rods shall be stored free from the ground.
3.2.3 Equipment Materials
3.2.3.1 Rotary Machines
 Manufacturer’s storage requirements shall be carefully checked for
suitability of outside storage of the motor drivers. Those that should not be
exposed to the weather and must be stored under cover.
 Pumps, compressors and turbines that are received mounted on their base
plates shall be stored level, so as not to induce twists or deflection
into the base plates.
 All opening are to have protective covers at all times, to prevent the entry of
moisture of foreign materials.
 All accessory items shipped loose in cartons shall be carefully checked
for completeness, clearly identified and stored immediately adjacent to the
primary equipment or in a pre-designated area in the warehouse. Accessory
items shall be stored in one location by item number.
 Rotary machines shall be stored on a level area and protected from mud,
dirt, twisting distortion and mechanical damage.
 Rotating equipment shall remain packed until installation, unless any
damage is found by visual inspection.
 Accessories and spare parts shall be correctly identified, tagged and stored
inside the warehouse after unpacking.
 Special instruction provided by manufacturer must be followed.
3.2.3.2 Vessels, Drum and Heat Exchangers
 These items shall be stored free from ground contact.
 These items shall be placed with sufficient space between packing to enable
easy identification of each individual item without double handling.
 These items shall be correctly placed on the drainage, to ensure
condensation will collect at the low point drain.

 Some items will be transported directly to the plant area (Direct


Delivery Materials).
 Accessories and spare parts for these items shall be correctly
identified, tagged and stored inside the warehouse after unpacking. If they
are to be stored in the open storage area, tarpaulins or similar protective
covering must be used to prevent deterioration by water ingress.
3.2.4 Hazardous Materials
3.2.4.1 Hazardous materials shall be stored independently from other material and
shall be sheltered from direct sun light. Their handling shall be carried out
in a safe manner, taking all necessary precautions.
3.2.4.2 The storing of these materials shall be grouped as follows:
 Oil based products
 Gaseous product
 Chemicals
 Catalyst
 Radioactive material
 Other material
3.2.5 Heat Insulating Materials
Materials in steel boxes or shrink package shall be stored on sleeper and covered by
tarpaulins or similar as protection. If such material is subject to deterioration due to
temperature, it shall be stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
