In her 2019 research paper, Kisia J. Weeks assessed needs regarding school-based agricultural education teachers. She found that these teachers lack 21st century skills themselves, making it difficult to effectively teach students skills needed for future careers. The existing assessment model also fails to evaluate critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. While teachers recognize 21st century skills as important, they have little knowledge and ability to teach such skills due to deficiencies in training and curriculum. The study highlights the importance of ensuring both teachers and students master 21st century skills to succeed in today's globally connected world.

Name: Hilary T. Dolfo BPED – 3

Directions:

Assessment of School-Based Agricultural Education Teachers”. Make a 5-page critical
analysis of the paper using the structure indicated below. Use a Times New Roman font, size

In her research paper, “Twenty- First Century Skills: A Needs Assessment of School-

Based Agricultural Education Teachers” published in 2019 in Utah State University in

Logan, Utah, Kisia J. Weeks presents several issues regarding the problems of the current

assessment of school based agricultural education teachers.

Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of having 21st Century skills for students to

be career and work ready but what if the teachers do not possess these skills? How will this

affect the learning of the students?

We live in the complex society with quick access to information rapidly changing

digital tools comma and the ability to collaborate on a global scale period and this globally

and digitally interconnected world, all learners from cradle to career, need new skills and

knowledge to succeed period if we want to prepare our children for success in school, work

and life, opportunities to learn 21st Century skills are essential (Ross, 2017)

The main problem that this research paper is emphasizing is, the agriculture teachers

cannot effectively teach the students because they themselves do not possess the skills needed
by 21st century teacher period it is also followed by the current assessment method used has

created a gap between the students knowledge, skills gained from school and the needed

skills to be successful in the workforce.

In addition, it stated that the fortunate students can be taught by great teachers if they

attend to highly effective school and students who are less fortunate has less chance to have a

quality education which can result to be ineffective in the workforce.

There is also another problem in the system which affects the learning of the students.

The existing model of assessment is an able to assess the students ability to think critically,

problem solve and collaborate which is very much needed by the students.

There is also another problem in the system which affects the learning of the students.

The existing model of assessment is an able to assess the students ability to think critically,

problem solve and collaborate which is very much needed by the students.

The study clearly demonstrates a unique contribution to theories on 21st century

education because it submerged issues about the 21st century skills and agriculture industry.

There are not that many studies in the field of agriculture which emphasizes the effect of an

education system to the teacher and its students, most of their studies or experimental. This

study created an opportunity to both of the teachers and students to address their problems in

the field.

It can also contribute to theories on 21st century education through the data’s that are

gathered, it can determine which problem is mostly faced by the teachers and agricultural

industry.

Due to the lack of knowledge of a 21st century skills of the agriculture teacher’s

theories can help them understand the importance of having the knowledge and ability to

teach 21st century skills.

As stated in the research paper, when students possess the 21st century skills, they are

prepared to work in teams, think critically and creatively about a problem, display leadership

and social skills and communicate effectively with others.

Moreover, it is the teacher's responsibility to prepare the students to enter the

workforce and higher education. By arming the students with strong critical thinking skills

that can help prepare them for success in higher education and workforce alike.

According to Bradman, critical thinking includes the ability to reason effectively, you

systems thinking, make judgments and decisions and solve problems.

Professional development can make teaching more public comma less private and

individualistic period all teachers then share responsibility for the learning of all students and

spend time together on professional issues it is also a carrier long process of developing

teaching quality that can ultimately leads to improved student academic performance (Garcia,

2012).

Additionally, professional development is needed by teachers in the field because it

allows them to think strategically. Modernization has a great impact and needs of the

students, as time goes by the trends in teaching keeps on changing and improving period it is

important to reflect on the strategies to be able to give the most effective teaching style to

give the students the quality education they need.

Likewise, the practical applications of the results of the study in your solving a

problem or problems and education is a parent or evident in the paper. The data’s that were

gathered showed how the agricultural teachers being aware on importance of having the

ability to teach 21st century skills as well as the importance of the level of knowledge in

teaching 21st century skills.

Thus, the teachers were able to recognize the importance of incorporating 21st

century skills in the classroom. In stealing the skills to the students will help them succeed,

the problem is stable at the ability and knowledge to teach them. Being aware of the problem,

it is identified that the curriculum should be improved and promote teaching 21st century

skills because SBAE recognize 21st Century skills to be essential even though they are less

knowledgeable.

There are other points that I want to raise regarding this research paper, if the

agricultural teachers are aware that they don’t possess the skills in teaching 21st century skills,

how come they don’t take action with this problem they are facing? As a teacher it is your

responsibility to find ways in order to give your students the quality education they need.

Furthermore, they can seek help to in-service teachers that has the knowledge and

ability in teaching 21st Century Skills. Their experience are a big help to improve the teachers

ability and give further information as to how can a teacher effectively teach the 21st Century

Skills to the students.

In general , the 21st century skills concept is motivated by the belief that teaching

students the most relevant , useful , in demand and universally applicable skills should be

prioritized in today's schools , and by the related believe that many schools may not

sufficiently prioritize such skills or effectively teach them to students (Ed Glossary).

Going back to the problem that this study is mainly pointing, the agricultural teachers

cannot effectively teach the students to be career and work early due to lack of knowledge

and ability of the needed 21st century skills. The SBAE should incorporate their curriculum

that prioritizes teaching 21st century skills.

Being a 21st century teacher, you should facilitate and inspire student learning and

creativity so that all students achieve in the global society (Ledesma, 2011). School-based

agricultural education teachers are struggling on how to implement and effectively teach the
21st Century skills, they are aware on the importance of it but due to the lack of knowledge,

ability and the existing curriculum they are having a hard time to address the problem.

The researcher also pointed out the effect of the problem to students if it isn't resolved

sooner. The data showed the awareness of the cultural features and insights of the SBAE

which they think that 21st century skills are essential. Their search for students only raised

the concern of their agricultural teachers but it also helped raise a concern that any school

could encounter due to that of knowledge and support of their current administration period.

It stated the importance of the activity of teachers towards implementation of 21st Century

skills.

After all is said and done, the 21st Century skills are more important to students now

than ever before. They not only provide a framework for successful learning in the classroom,

but ensure students can thrive in a world where change is constant and learning never stops.

As Ross firmly stated, students should have the opportunities to develop the attitudes, skills

and knowledge to understand and participate in a globally connected world.
