the Austin Neighborhood Choir range in age from 8-16 and rehearse twice weekly. Select singers have recently
performed in Dead Man Walking at Lyric Opera of Chicago and Bernstein’s MASS at Ravinia Festival. Recent tours
have included Chicago and Detroit.
About Miriam Kim,
Conductor
Miriam Kim serves as the conductor of the Austin Neighborhood
Choir and numerous In-School Choirs across the city of Chicago.
A native Chicagoan, Miriam attended CPS all throughout her early
education. Miriam began playing the violin at age four and piano at
age five, developing her love of music at an early age.

Miriam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Choral Music Education

from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She
performed for five years and toured with the University of Illinois
Black Chorus to Alabama in celebration of the 150th year of the
Emancipation Proclamation.

Miriam began her teaching career in Champaign, Illinois teaching

K-5 general music and choir at Booker T. Washington STEM
Academy. For the next three years, Miriam continued her teaching
career in Chicago at St. Benedict Preparatory School, teaching
2nd-12th grade general music, digital music and choir.

Born of Korean, Irish and German descent, Miriam founded the

Bel Suono Asian American Girls Choir (2014-2016), a project
to empower Asian-American youth through leadership and
performing opportunities. Bel Suono Choir donated all concert
profits to the nonprofit organization Liberty in North Korea. Miriam
is excited to continue to share in the joy of music making with all

VOICES
$10,000 funds an In-School Program for one year. You have
the opportunity to bring music education free of charge to
students at one city school, meet their principal, and attend
their concert.

$5,000 funds one Connection Day, a special workshop that

brings together CCC students from different neighborhoods
to learn new music and choreography while forging
meaningful bonds with their CCC peers.

$2,500 funds an international tour scholarship, creating

the opportunity for a CCC singer to experience the
transformative power of travel and become an ambassador
of our city and mission.

$1,000 allows CCC to subsidize tuition for one

Neighborhood Choir singer from a low-income household.
You have the opportunity to give that student access to
a safe, nurturing after-school environment in their own
community.

$500 funds one bus trip for 50 singers to special

performance opportunities with collaborators like Ravinia
Festival and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. You have the
opportunity to make participation in special projects with
world-class artists possible for all students by removing the
transportation barrier.

$250 funds a complete uniform set for one Neighborhood

Choir singer. You have the opportunity to bring the sense of
pride and belonging that comes with wearing a CCC uniform
to a singer who otherwise could not afford it.

$100 funds one binder of music for a Voice of Chicago

singer. You have the opportunity to introduce that singer
to music in over 37 languages and from a wide range of
cultures, genres, and time periods.
Chicago Children’s Choir gratefully recognizes the cumulative
support of generous individuals and institutions who have
advanced CCC’s Raising Voices Campaign, a 3-year, $12 million
fundraising initiative to elevate the voices of Chicago’s youth.
