Implausible/invalid steering angle (APS) control unit (A73) or the redundant power supply (RPS) control
unit (A76) via CAN. If, therefore, a warning message appears in the
instrument cluster, the control unit concerned sends a corresponding
message via the exterior CAN (CAN 1) to the central gateway (CGW)
control unit (A2) which then forwards this message via the frame CAN
(CAN 3) to the instrument cluster (ICUC) control unit (A1).
Both the yellow and red warning indicators appear together with a
corresponding message in the display of the instrument cluster. In the
case of a red warning indicator, a red warning lamp is additionally
switched on. In certain cases, a yellow steering wheel symbol in
addition to the yellow warning indicator may also be shown in the
display of the instrument cluster.

The CAN communication between the instrument cluster (ICUC)
control unit (A1) and electrohydraulic power steering (APS) control unit
(A73) or redundant power supply (RPS) control unit (A76) as well as a
total failure of one of the two control units are monitored by the
instrument cluster (ICUC) control unit (A1) itself. If a fault occurs, a red
warning indicator is activated autonomously by the instrument cluster
(ICUC) control unit (A1).
All faults are stored in the fault memory of the respective control unit
and can be called up via the display in the instrument cluster or via
XENTRY.
