Millennial generation for me is the generation born between 1980 -1990 and some early 2000 this
generation is the generation that grew up with technology, they are the generation that are leaders in
technology and has a major influence on the development of technology. They are also the generation

1.2 List major characteristics associated with the Millennials and give an example of
each; (10)
1. They are technology savvy. They use technology for most of their communications instead of
face-to-face communication. They prefer to blog, chat on WhatsApp, tweet and Wikipedia.

constantly

performances academically.

a. You set out goals internally for yourself, you focus purely on yourself, and how your
actions need to align with your internal goal. You can manage your emotions, be
objective when it comes to your visions and you know exactly how other people see
you.
b. On page 20 of the prescribed book Effective Classroom Management is states that stress
and anger are two barriers to emotionally intelligent behaviour, it is essential to learn to
cope with your stress and anger. To determine your level of stress and to become more
aware of the role of stress in your life, you first need to determine the causes of stress.
This is called being self aware

2. Self Management
a. This is about the ability to prioritize what is important such as your goals, what
decisions need to be taken, what can and can’t be done, how to do it or how not to do
it. You are managing the way to achieve your goals.
b. When you start feeling stressed or angry you need to manage it and realize what you
need to do to relieve the stress before it causes tension in your relationships.

3. Social Awareness
a. The ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. To have empathy and emphasize
with others. Taking in considerations their culture and background, as well as
understanding ethical and social norms for behavior.
b. This takes time and patience. You have to constantly research and educate yourself.
c. Being social aware means, you respect the other person and what they are going
through. You also really try and put yourself in their shoes, feel what they are feeling
and advocate for them if they cant do it for themselves.

4. Relationship Management
a. Being able to manage the people relationship you have around you, friendships, working
relationships. If you are improving the relationships around you in all areas of life, you
will improve your personal power and growth too. You need to balance these
relationships and make sure they grow with you.

2.1 Management has many views and tasks that also applies in the
classroom. Mention and discuss four fundamental management tasks
that are core for classroom management. 4 X 4 = 16

1. Planning
Bianca Olivier(58140875) TAM2601 Assignment 1
Assignment nr. 828450

a. Determines in advance what learning must be achieved at a specified time in the future
and how this will be achieved according to the prescribed book Effective classroom
management. During this task educators predetermine the objective of the subject,
then they say how it might be reached and lastly the educations plan what they know
the learners will need to know before reaching a certain goal as well as what is the next
goal in line. You get three types of learning, school learning, grade learning and
classroom learning.
b. According to Pretorius and Lemmer (1998: 55), planning is indispensable. They provide a
number of guidelines for effective planning:
i. Use departmental formats to do all planning in writing.
ii. The syllabus should be studied carefully
iii. Lesson planning must be done before the beginning of the school year, term,
week, day or lesson.
iv. All the key elements must be specified: content, alternative methods,
breakdown of amounts of work to be completed in required periods of time,
teaching aids, methods of assessment, etc.
v. Planning in groups is imperative
2. Organizing
a. This can be describe as putting the plan in action. Creating the environment in which
education must take place. From putting the activities in action, deciding which
resources to apply , how the lesson should take place and who is responsible for what.
b. So essentially it is creating a space to learn, creating an atmosphere that is positive.
c. Managing and creating discipline in the classroom
d. Pretorius and Lemmer (1998: 56) provide the following guidelines for the organizational
function of the educator:
i. You have to take into account all the tasks that the educator and the learners
need to complete to achieve the learning success that is necessary.
ii. To create order, democratic steps need to be created especially when it comes
to the conduct of the learners, seating arrangements in classrooms, leadership
amongst learners and communication patterns to the learners as well as what
tasks can be delegated.
iii. When learner activities and tasks are carried out there must be firm but
democratic control over them.

3. Leadership
a. This is a function that enables others to complete the task. The teacher has leadership
and she uses this to inspire and lead the learners to complete the given tasks by using
your skills.
b. These are the important components of leadership;
i. Leadership qualities,
ii. Motivation of learners,
iii. Control of groups and
iv. Competent communication

c. So leadership is basically the relationships you have with others as well as what you
contribute to interactions with others regarding your skills, knowledge and experience.

4. Control
a. This is seen as the most important function of management. The steps taken by the
teacher to see if the learner has achieved the goal set out is very important. These
measures are planning but at the same time it is a management activity. All the
measures can be seen as control, there are three stages of control, before, during and
after the activity.
b. Control must be suited and lead to change.
c. Control should not be seen negatively
d. The following comments describe the requirements for control and control mechanisms
in general:
i. Suitable control mechanisms must be used to the specific character of the
learning subject, learning content, learning environment and class group.
ii. The learners that are subject to control need to know what will be assessed and
how it will be assessed
iii. Assessment activities and control tasks are aimed and correcting behavior or
improving ability- not finding fault
iv. Control needs to be done in a timely fashion to allow for alterations or extended
learning opportunities.
v. The educator has the ultimate responsibility for control
vi. Control should lead to changed or improved performance by the learners and
the educator. (Page 47 prescribed book Effective Classroom Management)
