Plagiarism is presenting somebody else's work as your own. It includes copying information
directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an
individual effort; copying another student's coursework; stealing coursework from another student
and submitting it as your own work. Suspected plagiarism will be investigated and if found to have
occurred will be dealt with according to the procedures set down by the University. Please see your
student handbook for further details of what is/isn't plagiarism.
All material copied or amended from any source (e.g. internet, books) must be referenced
correctly according to the Harvard reference style.
Your work will be submitted for plagiarism checking. Any attempt to bypass our plagiarism
detection systems will be treated as a severe Assessment Offence.
The University website has details of the current Coursework Regulations, including details of
penalties for late submission, procedures for Extenuating Circumstances, and penalties for

Scenario: You are employed as a Solution Architect for Emerging Technologies in a leading IoT
networking company. One of your main responsibilities is to architect and design solutions to meet
functional and non-functional customer requirements. Your latest project is about IoT-based smart
healthcare applications. You have been asked to architect and design a healthcare solution for
the hospital Emergency Department (ED) leveraging Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN)
devices and protocols. The solution consists of an e-healthcare platform and a number of
connected LPWAN healthcare devices (equipped with sensors) for monitoring patients' vital
parameters while in waiting rooms and during their admission to an emergency room (e.g. digital
pulse oximeters, sphygmomanometers, digital ECG devices). You have been provided with the
following customer requirements:
1. High data rates - The data is transmitted periodically in short intervals to capture the
patient's vital parameters in real-time and detect any sudden changes quickly.
2. Low delays - The real-time data is received with low delays (< 200 ms).
3. High reliability - All real-time data is successfully received by the base station (or a
gateway) and processed by the e-healthcare platform.
Task 1: Propose two potential LPWAN solutions that can be used in the above scenario. Critically
discuss why the two solutions were selected. Note: Your company is able to support Sigfox,
LoRaWAN, NB-IoT and LTE-M.
[20 marks]
Task 2: For each of the three customer requirements (high data rates, low delays, and high
reliability), critically discuss if and how each of the two proposed solutions satisfies the
requirement. Your answer should include an explanation of which solution would be more
beneficial for each of the three requirements.
[60 marks]
Task 3: Give a brief overview of two additional benefits that the customer would have if your
proposed solutions were chosen.

The final output is a report maximum 2000 words long (excluding references). The discussion
needs to be supported by appropriate references presented in the Harvard referencing style.
There is a 20% penalty if the report does not abide by the rule of a length of strictly no more than
2000 words (excluding references).
The precise marking scheme is included within the template of the paper and is repeated here
for clarity:
