CLASS IX SOCIAL SCIENCE HOLIDAY HOMEWORK

2021-22

Note: 1. The students have to make a Combined Holiday Homework for History, Pol.
Science, Geography and Economics.
2. There are two projects to be made:
(I) Disaster Management (Individual project) and
(II) Art Integrated Project-AIL (Group project)

I. DISASTER MANAGEMENT
PROJECT WORK CLASS IX (2021-22)

● Objectives: The main objectives of giving project work on Disaster Management is


to:
a. create awareness about different disasters, their consequences and
management
b. prepare the students in advance to face such situations
c. ensure their participation in disaster mitigation plans
d. enable the students to create awareness and preparedness among the
community.
● The project work will help in enhancing the Life Skills of the students.
● The distribution of marks over different aspects relating to Project Work is as
follows:

Students must consider the following things while doing the project:

● Incorporate various forms of art in the project work.


● The project carried out by the students will be shared among themselves through
interactive sessions such as exhibitions, panel discussions, etc.
● A Summary Report should be prepared highlighting:
a. objectives realized through individual work and group interactions;
b. calendar of activities;
c. innovative ideas generated in the process;
d. list of questions asked in viva voce.
● The projects and models prepared should be made from eco-friendly products
without incurring too much expenditure.

Project Overview:

Following essentials are required to be fulfilled for its preparation and submission

1. The total length of the project report will not be more than15 pages, excluding cover
page, content page, acknowledgement page and bibliography page(s). The project
should be divided into four segments (Geography, History, Political Science,
Economics), as enlisted in the “Divisions of the topics” heading at the end of this
instruction document. Each segment should be at least 3 pages long. The project can
be emailed/turned-in between June 1st to 7th, 2021.
2. The project report can be typed and credits will be awarded for illustrations and
creative use of graphics and material. The individual segments of the project must
be emailed/turned-in to respective subject teachers.
3. The students are encouraged to discuss with subject teachers whenever
needed.
4. The project report will be developed and presented in this order:

● Cover page showing project title, student information, school and year
● List of contents with page numbers.
● Acknowledgments (acknowledging the institution, offices and libraries visited
and persons who have helped)
● Purpose
● Aim
● Methodology
● Experiences while doing the project.
● Chapters with relevant headings
● Summary and conclusions based on findings.
● Planning and activities to be done during the project, if any, giving a calendar of
activities.
● Bibliography: Should have the Title, pages referred, author, publisher, year of
publication and if a website the name of the website with the specific website link
which has been used.
● All the photographs and sketches should be labeled and acknowledged.

Select any one topic of disaster from the following list:


Earthquake, Tsunami, Cyclone, Flood, Drought, Landslide.

Division of the Topics:


● Geography:-Meaning, Causes, Relief and Rehabilitation supported by pictures and all
the relevant statistical information.
● History:-Occurrence of the disaster in the past and its social effects on the lives of the
people with the help of pictures, tables, newspaper cuttings etc.
● Political Science: Collect information about various Constitutional Laws that aim at
establishing and functioning of various disaster management
institutions(Government-Local,State,Central,NDMA,Police,Medical Facilities etc).
The project will include details of the institution, their functions and in case of
disaster, steps initiated by them with examples, pictures, facts and data (Pie chart,
graph or bar diagram).
● Economics: Impact of the Disaster on the National economy with reference to National
Income, Business, Trade, employment, Standard of living and Infrastructure. All the
information has to be supported with the help of a write-up, pictures, statistical
information, diagrams, charts, tables, newspaper clippings etc.

reasons for subsistence crisis/collectivization.

newspaper cuttings of organic farming highlighting Sikkim.
➢ SLIDE 6: Upload pictures of different types of dances related to
agricultural/ harvest festivals.Different types of crops grown,
agricultural seasons in Northern plains.
➢ SLIDE 7: Cuisines prepared during harvest/agricultural festivals
➢ SLIDE 8: Present through pictures/videos/paper clippings about
the various challenges which farmers are exposed to in India,
particularly Sikkim.
➢ SLIDE 9: Students will highlight various Government programs
and schemes to help farmers. (This can be portrayed through a
graph/ flow chart/ write up/ Nukkad natak/ brochure.)
➢ SLIDE 10: Interlinking production across countries and
integration of farming technologies- (depict pictures of various
types of farming through a collage).
➢ SLIDE 11: Display through a graph the impact of organic farming
in Sikkim to our GDP. List and paste pictures of any 5 organic
crops which are exported.
➢ SLIDE 12: Rights of farmers highlighting right against exploitation
(begar/forced labour). Various land reforms initiated by the
government and how the slogan of ‘’Land to the Tiller’’ had
attracted the voters. (Students can depict the information as a
pictorial timeline,collage)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES-
HISTORY-Students will be able to comprehend one of the reasons
of the French revolution and the reasons which led to
collectivization by Stalin well.
POLITICAL SCIENCE-Students will be able understand the laws and
efforts made by the government to improve the plight of the
farmers.
GEOGRAPHY-Students will appreciate that India is an agricultural
country and how people’s livelihood, festivities, folk dances and
songs etc are related to it.
ECONOMICS-Students will be able to understand the impact of organic
farming in sikkim to our GDP

GROUP ACTIVITY
● The project presentation should contain 15 pages/slides
integrated with Sikkim.

showing reasons of the worldwide economic depression and its

newspaper cuttings of ways to control poverty in Sikkim.
➢ SLIDE 6: Upload pictures of different types of placards which the
unemployed hung around their necks saying”Willing to do any
work” as an effect of world economic depression .
➢ SLIDE 7: Sing songs of hope for the betterment of humanity
followed by role play depicting reasons for poverty in
Germany/France/Russia/India .
➢ SLIDE 8: Present through pictures/videos/paper clippings/essay
writing about the various challenges which people faced under
subsistence crisis in French revolution/Russia during the first
world war.
➢ SLIDE 9: Students will highlight any 1 recent government
program/ scheme undertaken by the government to eliminate
poverty in India. (This can be portrayed through a write up/
slogan writing, role play, speech by leaders).
➢ SLIDE 10: Spatial distribution of poor people in India and its
relation to availability of resources based on the physical
features, climate stc. Students will use thematic maps of physical
and political maps of India to analyse. Students can write poems
on equality; write articles-stating the plight of the poor in India;
write slogans on eradication of discremination against the poor.
➢ SLIDE 11: With the help of a bar chart compare the poverty ratio
of any 5 states either with least poverty ratio/ maximum poverty
ratio.
➢ SLIDE 12: Students can create awareness about poverty
alleviation programmes in India and how the slogan ‘’Garibi
Hatao’’ had attracted the voters in the 1970s. (The information
can be presented through a storyboard, posters,creative writing,
poem, leader's speech etc.)
