1. If you were designing a needs analysis for secretaries working in


business offices, what target population would you include in the needs
analysis? What kind of information would you need from each member of
the target population?

2. Suggest four needs analysis procedures that could be used to collect


information about the language needs of hotel telephone operators. What
are the advantages and limitations of each procedure?

 Person Analysis- analysis dealing with potential participants and


instructors involved in the process. The important questions being
answered by this analysis are who will receive the training and their
level of existing knowledge the language needs in hotel telephones.

 Performance Analysis- employees performing up to the established


their capacity. If performance is below expectations, there is
performance gap amgd not qualified to for the job.
 Training Suitability Analysis- Training is one of several solutions to
employment problems. However, it may not always be the best
solution. It is important to determine if training will be effective in its
usage.
 Task Analysis- seeks to specify the main duties and skill level
required. This helps ensure that the training which is developed will
include relevant links to the content of the job.

3. Rewrite the following aims statements so that they describe changes in


learners:

 Students will study English grammar enable to help them in the


correction of mistakes and improvement of written work and oral
discussions.
 Students will improve their pronunciation enable to develop the
capacity to recognize and create essential English sounds in context,
as well as fundamental rhythm, stress, and intonation patterns.

4. Using the World Wide Web, search for information about the Standards
movement and Nonlanguage outcomes and process objectives, and
discuss their relevance in planning goals and learning outcomes.

 Process objectives describe the activities/services/strategies that


will be delivered as part of implementing the program. Process
objectives, by their nature, are usually short-term.
 Standard outcomes- are technical specifications, measurable, drawn
up by consensus and approved by a recognized organization.
 Relevance in planning goals and learning outcomes- In planning
goals it helps guides your focus and helps you sustain that
momentum in life. Goals also help align your focus and promote a
sense of self-mastery. In learning outcomes explicitly-
stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about
what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know
what they know” and give students a language to communicate what
they know to others.
