BRIEF REPORT
Focus Area: The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the students with the procedure of
municipal waste water treatment and reuse.
The visits include presentations and demonstration by Azim Sutar sir, who
explained all the details and benefits of project. Sir explained us a step by step, describing what
happens at each stage of the treatment process and how various inorganic and organic
contaminants are removed to help keep our waterways clean. The students saw first-hand how
the waste sludge’s are collected, processed and disposed of sludge. These processes included
screening, grit removal, aerobic and anaerobic digestion, thickening, blending and dewatering.
Through the virtual visit, students got an in-depth knowledge of the various components of the
treatment plant based on Activated Sludge Process. They also become familiar with the working
principle and functions of various units of treatment plant such as screens, grit chamber, primary
clarifier, aeration tank, secondary clarifier, sludge digester, etc.
During the virtual plant visit, students also learnt about daily monitoring of treated water by
various chemical analysis of pH, BOD, COD etc.
Units Of STP :
Pumping Station: At Dasara Chowk
Receiving Chamber
Dewatering
Chlorination
Pumping Station:
Receiving Chamber:
Inlet chamber is provided at higher ground level to receive raw sewage from Raw
sewage pumps through discharge pipelines. The purpose of providing inlet
chamber is to reduce the velocity of sewage coming via pumping so as to achieve
better efficiency in s
Screens:
Wastewater Screening is the first unit operation in all wastewater treatment
plants. Screen is the device used to retain solids found in the influent wastewater to
the treatment plant. The main purpose of screening is to remove solid materials
that could:
Cause damage to other process equipment.
Cause reduction in efficiency of the whole system
waterways
The materials that are removed using screens are called screenings.
Skimming Tank:
A skimming tank is a chamber so arranged that the floating matter like oil, fat, grease etc., rise
and remain on the surface of the waste water (Sewage) until removed, while the liquid flows out
continuously under partitions or baffles. The floating matter can be either hand or mechanically
removed. When compressed air is circulated, the oily matters rise upward and are collected in the
side trough, from where they are removed.
Partial Flume:
The partial flume is an open channel flow metering device that was developed to measure the
flow of surface waters and irrigation flows. ... It is used to measure volumetric flow rate in
industrial discharges, municipal sewer lines, and influent/effluent flows in wastewater treatment
plan
C-Tech Tanks:
C-Tech is a Cyclic Activated Sludge process. It provides highest treatment
efficiency possible in a single – step biological process. ... The complete process
takes place in a single reactor, within which all biological treatment steps take
place sequentially. No additional Settling Unit, Secondary Clarifier is required.
Dewatering:
Sludge dewatering is typically focused on reducing the weight and volume of the
sludge so that disposal costs - including transportation - are kept to a minimum.
Water removal is the primary means of volume reduction before sludge waste can
be treated or disposed of in the most economical manner.

Chlorination:
Chlorination is the most commonly used disinfection process for wastewater
treatment. Elemental chlorine is either liquid or gaseous in
form. Chlorine gas can be compressed to a point where it liquefies.

The visit was quite helpful for the students to get the knowledge
regarding the functioning and process of municipal waste water treatment plant.
