Divine femininity
Denver is known for its extensive range of art and culture, with aspiring artisans showcasing their talents at local galleries
across the city. A new solo exhibition, featuring the work of A. L. Lummus, is set to run from March 19 to April 8 at the Bitfacto-
ry Gallery at 851 Santa Fe Drive. The exhibition, Mettle Martyr, will feature all new works; so far, the artist has completed 25
paintings, as well as a conceptual installation element to fully immerse the viewer in the experience. “Viewers want to be part of
the narrative. I want every person that attends the exhibit to see themselves as the muted protagonist, the consummately un-
dervalued woman, the ‘unimportant’ half of our nation. I want each viewer to be immersed in my message,” says Lummus. “I am
creating art that is a small, sardonic celebration of the ‘ultimate American feminine.’ While gender equality has made significant
strides, it remains that the ‘good’ American woman is a martyr. She sacrifices for image, for material, for children, for man; and
is left with only our culture’s shared permission to be woman... By wrapping my social commentary in these bright, cute, and
frivolous images, I can make my message not only more palatable, but more accessible to the general public.”

A Bite of Boulder
A Bite of Boulder harbors a collection of more than 40 recipes from Boulder’s favorite restaurants, and
includes stories of the dishes and the people behind them. “Food truly is love, so dig in at home, share favor-
ites with friends, and celebrate Boulder in a delicious new way,” says author and owner of First Bite, Jessica
Benjamin. A Bite of Boulder keeps you connected to the foothills’ dining community, featuring highlights on
wine, cheese, and spices. Its pages also hold kitchen tips, explorations into the future of our food system, and
featured stories from local industry personalities: “When Chef Roy Benningfield [of SALT] sent me this Butter-

an obviously soul-warming dish.” Fifty percent of the book’s proceeds go toward participating restaurants in

The quaint Mariposa Garden House is the perfect example of making the most of small spaces. The project’s renovation was
recently recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with Awards of Distinction and Excellence in the category “under
15,000 square feet.” According to the renovation’s architect Renée del Gaudio, AIA, the project’s deep connections to the landscape,
luminous spaces, and earthy materials create a maximum impact with a minimal footprint. “The Mariposa Garden House is built on top
of an existing concrete foundation from the 1940s. The reuse of this existing foundation was seen not as a constraint, but an opportu-
nity; the project succeeds in its restrained approach to materials, energy, and size,” says del Gaudio. The AIA judges specifically noted
the home’s beautiful addition which, despite being a small space, creates multiple usable spaces and feels upgraded in every sense of

Dunton Hot Springs is undoubtedly secluded—and that’s half the wonder of it. The Relais & Châteaux property, which lies
just two hours southwest of Telluride, resides on the bones of a 19th-century mining town. Its restored cabins burrow within
the area’s lush valley, each connected by stepping stones, hanging lanterns, and a trove of tall pines that loom behind. The
hot springs themselves, a historic gathering ground for the Ute Indian Tribe and muddled miners, extends 0.3 miles along
the Triassic Dolores Formation and reaches temperatures of up to 106°F. “Dunton Hot Springs is a truly special place,” says
executive vice president Edoardo Rossi. Visitors may simmer in the lush and opulent bathhouse, submerge in a natural pool
under the stars, or steep privately in the spigot bath of Well House cabin.
