Mona Lisa Painting
According to critics, Mona Lisa seems to be in the two places at the same
time. How is this shown in the painting? Explain. (leah)
There is a soft transition between dark and light tones around the face
resulting to atmospheric and dreamy depictions. This technique allowed Da
Vinci to not only realistically duplicate the translucency of skin, but also to
create such a lifelike presence that the subject appeared to actually be in the
room, as if she were sitting in a window.
Sfumato technique got rid of the painting’s flatness and made it seem like
Mona Lisa is following you with her gaze. To paint on a flat surface a vision
of someone not confined to that surface required the artist to hold two
paradoxical thoughts in mind simultaneously — flatness, but with the illusion
of realistic three-dimensional form.
2. Who are compared in the song? Why are they compared? (Kwingles)
This stanza stands for all the wasted opportunities of the woman in the
song. Possible breakthrough that wasn’t grabbed and nurtured. This may
also pertains to the potential suitors that liked Mona Lisa or the woman in
the song, since Mona Lisa portrays mystery and questions.
4. What does the song say about some characteristics of women? Do you
still find these characteristics today? (lulu)
The song depicts some characteristic of a woman like the mystery that
lies in it’s facial expression, wherein people may ask their true identity or
even question the woman’s state of mind. These few characteristics I’ve
mentioned is indeed present today, in connection to the woman’s
wholesomeness and femininity.
