SWOT ANALYSIS
Strengths:
 Leveraging on brand Tata and high brand recall.
 Superior picture quality and sound quality
 Leads in introducing new packages & services.
 24*7 customer service support in multiple languages.
 Rural penetration in line with business model of ITC E- Choupal and
Godrej Aadhar.
 Interactive channels and program guides.
 Innovative Product offering Tata sky plus.
 Leader in introducing new packages and services.
 High level of customer service and regular innovative offers.
 TATA sky provides maximum HD channels.
 Tata Sky is the first DTH to get accredited by ISO-27001:2005
 Provision for 625 hours of recording with 500 GB hard disk in Tata
Sky HD set-top box
 Multi-TV Connection – Different channels can be watched on
different TVs at the same time using the same connection (up to 4
multiple connections, 3 allowed per set-top box).

 Adopted 360-degree marketing campaign that encapsulates
television, print, radio and outdoor platforms.
Weakness:

 They are not able to capture the market share from free DTH
provider
 High initial cost of DTH equipment’s
 Signal issues during heavy rainfall which does not happens with
D2H
Opportunities:
 As per latest TRAI guidelines data charges have been
increased so it may push people to rethink DTH.
 In the pandemic times cable and broadcasting services
were considered under essentials.
 Purchasing power of individual has rose over the year
which can be beneficial for TATA Sky.
 Increase in demand for TV due to work from home will
bring an increase in sales.
 Increase in the geographical boundaries with Rural Market
untapped.
 With the lifestyle getting faster and more stressful,
increasing WFH and online mode of education individual
are ready to pay a little bit extra for hassle free service.
 Integration of streaming and DTH services.
 Customization of their viewing services.
 Leadership on subscribers and profitability.
 First to introduce 4k streaming capable Set-up Box
 Part of the TATA group which leads to greater brand
value.
 Partnership with global players like The Walt Disney
company and Temasek holdings.
Threats:
 The I&B ministry rules mandate DTH operators to pay 10% of
their gross revenue as their annual fee
 TRAI regulations have increased the cost of content
consumption
 Price sensitivity:
a. Current Market instability has resulted in going down of
sales of premium goods
b. Not a preferable choice for low income groups
 Broadcaster dependency for content creation and availability
 Increasing popularity of OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon
 Lower data rate increasing the internet penetration further
contributing to increase in viewership via OTT
 Cable Set Top Boxes/FTA provide easy switching due to
negligible switching costs
 High dependence for transponders on ISRO
 Increasing Competition in form of Jio DTH
