I. Introduction
1. Introduction of Apple Inc

Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered

in Cupertino, California, that designs, develops, and sells consumer

electronics, computer software, and online services. It is considered one of

the Big Four tech companies along with Amazon, Google, and Facebook.

The company's hardware products include the iPhone smartphone,

the iPad tablet computer, the Mac personal computer, the iPod portable media

player, the Apple Watch smartwatch, the Apple TV digital media player,

the AirPods wireless earbuds and the HomePod smart speaker. Apple's software

includes the macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS operating systems,

the iTunes media player, the Safari web browser, and the iLifeand iWork creativity

and productivity suites, as well as professional applications like Final Cut

Pro, Logic Pro, and Xcode. Its online services include the iTunes Store, the iOS

App Store, Mac App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, iMessage, and iCloud. Other
2

services include Apple Store, Genius Bar, AppleCare, Apple Pay, Apple Pay

Cash, and Apple Card.

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in April

1976 to develop and sell Wozniak's Apple I personal computer, though Wayne

sold his share back within 12 days. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc.,

in January 1977, and sales of its computers, including the Apple II, grew quickly.

Within a few years, Jobs and Wozniak had hired a staff of computer designers

and had a production line. Apple went public in 1980 to instant financial success.

Over the next few years, Apple shipped new computers featuring

innovative graphical user interfaces, such as the original Macintosh in 1984, and

Apple's marketing advertisements for its products received widespread critical

acclaim. However, the high price of its products and limited application library

caused problems, as did power struggles between executives. In 1985, Wozniak

departed Apple amicably and remained an honorary employee, while Jobs and

others resigned to found NeXT.

As the market for personal computers expanded and evolved through the

1990s, Apple lost market share to the lower-priced duopoly of Microsoft

Windows on Intel PC clones. The board recruited CEO Gil Amelio to what would

be a 500-day charge for him to rehabilitate the financially troubled company—

reshaping it with layoffs, executive restructuring, and product focus. In 1997, he

led Apple to buy NeXT, solving the desperately failed operating system strategy

and bringing Jobs back. Jobs pensively regained leadership status, becoming CEO

in 2000. Apple swiftly returned to profitability under the revitalizing Think

different campaign, as he rebuilt Apple's status by launching the iMac in 1998,

opening the retail chain of Apple Stores in 2001, and acquiring numerous

companies to broaden the software portfolio. In January 2007, Jobs renamed the
3

company Apple Inc., reflecting its shifted focus toward consumer electronics, and

launched the iPhone to great critical acclaim and financial success. In August

2011, Jobs resigned as CEO due to health complications, and Tim Cook became

the new CEO. Two months later, Jobs died, marking the end of an era for the

company.

Apple is well known for its size and revenues. Its worldwide annual revenue

totaled $265 billion for the 2018 fiscal year. Apple is the world's largest

technology company by revenue and one of the world's most valuable companies.

It is also the world's third-largest mobile phone manufacturer

after Samsung and Huawei. In August 2018, Apple became the first public U.S.

company to be valued at over $1 trillion. The company employs 123,000 full-time

employees and maintains 504 retail stores in 24 countries as of 2018. It operates

the iTunes Store, which is the world's largest music retailer. As of January 2018,

more than 1.3 billion Apple products are actively in use worldwide. The company

also has a high level of brand loyalty and is ranked as the world's most valuable

brand. However, Apple receives significant criticism regarding the labor practices

of its contractors, its environmental practices and unethical business practices,

including anti-competitive behavior, as well as the origins of source materials.

2. Introduction of Apple Watch

Apple Watch is a line of Smartwatches designed, developed, and marketed

by Apple Inc. It incorporates fitness tracking and health-oriented capabilities with

integration with IOS and other Apple products and services.

Apple Watch relies on a wireless connection to an iPhone to perform many of

its default functions such as calling and texting. However, Wi-Fi chips in all Apple

Watch models allow the smartwatch to have limited connectivity features away
4

from the phone anywhere a Wi-Fi network is available. Series 3 LTE Apple

Watches are able to be used without needing to be consistently connected to an

iPhone, though an iPhone is still required to set up the device. First generation

and Series 1 and 2 Apple Watches require an iPhone 5s or later with IOS 11;

the Series 3 and later LTE models require an iPhone 6 or later with IOS 11 or

later.

The Apple Watch was released on April 24, 2015 and quickly became the

best-selling wearable device with 4.2 million sold in the second quarter of the

2015 fiscal year.

The second generation of Apple Watches were released in two tiers in

September 2016: the Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch Series 2, while the

first generation was discontinued.

The Apple Watch Series 3 was released on September 22, 2017 alongside the

discontinuation of the Apple Watch Series 2.

The Apple Watch Series 4 was announced on September 12, 2018, with the

Apple Watch Series 1 no longer being produced.

II. Product
1. Details

The Apple Watch Series 4 is the latest version and comes in two new size

options - 40mm and 44mm in aluminum case and stainless steel case. There

are Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) and Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS).

The Apple Watch Series 4 models have been divided into three "collections":

Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch Nike+, Apple Watch Hermès. They are

differentiated by combinations of cases, bands, and exclusive watch faces; Apple

5

Watch Sport came with aluminum cases or stainless steel case and sport bands

or woven nylon bands and Milanese bands; Apple Watch Nike+ comes with

aluminum cases and Nike sport bands or sport loops; Apple Watch Hermès uses

stainless steel cases and Hermès leather watch bands (also included is an

exclusive Hermès orange sport band).

Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or later with IOS

12 or later. Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or later with IOS

12 or later

Apple Watch Series 4 has a water resistance rating of 50 meters under ISO

standard 22810:2010. This means that it may be used for shallow-water activities

like swimming in a pool or ocean. However, Apple Watch Series 4 should not be

used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or

submersion below shallow depth.

Features are subject to change. Some features, applications, and services may

not be available in all regions or all languages.

2. Design
The Apple Watch Series 4 design is not just involved, transformed. Series

4 represents a fundamental redesign and re-engineering of Apple Watch. From

the curved corners of the larger display to the architecture of the S4 chip, every

detail has been thoughtfully considered. Apple Watch has always been a uniquely

personal product. And now it’s even more powerful.

The largest Apple Watch display yet. This is huge. The display is the

defining feature of Apple Watch, and Series 4 pushes it further than ever. The

challenge was to make it bigger without noticeably increasing the size of the case
6

or compromising the battery life. Narrower borders enable a viewing area that’s

over 30% larger, while display technology called LTPO improves power efficiency,

helping you get through the day on a single charge.

A better experience all the way around. Curved corners precisely match the

radius of the case, creating a more pleasing, continuous appearance. This also

allows imagery and the touch surface to extend to the farthest reaches of the

screen.

More information in every millimeter to take full advantage of the display

dimensions, the entire interface has been redesigned to provide more information

with richer detail. The Info graph watch face can accommodate up to eight

complications, so you can see more and do more at a glance.

Digital Crown. A breakthrough reborn. The Digital Crown was invented to

provide an easy way to navigate on Apple Watch without obstructing the display.

With Apple Watch Series 4, the mechanism has been totally re‑engineered. Haptic

feedback now delivers a precise, click-like feel as you scroll. And a titanium

electrode built into the top allows you to use the ECG app simply by touching the

Digital Crown with your finger.

A miracle of miniaturization. Already one of the most intricate systems

Apple has created, the Digital Crown on Apple Watch Series 4 adds even more

capability into significantly less space. The entire assembly is 30 percent smaller,

yet it includes 21 percent more components.

Two sensors. A pair of eyes on your heart. The optical heart sensor has

been part of Apple Watch from the beginning, allowing you to quickly check your

heart rate. Thanks to an electrical heart sensor (made up of an electrode in the

7

Digital Crown and electrodes on the back crystal), you can use the ECG app to

generate an ECG, or electrocardiogram, at any time to share with your doctor.

The biggest thinking happens in the smallest spaces. Optimized in every

way, Apple Watch Series 4 is more powerful, yet even thinner than before. And it

delivers up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge.

S4 chip. The S4 is more than just a processor. It’s a complete System in

Package (SiP), with the entire system fabricated onto a single component. This

architecture allows Apple Watch to pack amazing capabilities into a tiny space. In

fact, Apple Watch is the only product in the world that runs completely on a SiP.

Up to 2x faster. This fourth-generation CPU is faster than ever.3 Apps

open more quickly and performance is boosted across the entire system.

50 percent louder speaker. Larger and even more powerful, the Apple

Watch Series 4 speaker provides dramatically bigger sound for Siri and

Walkie‑Talkie. In addition, the microphone has been relocated to the opposite side

to reduce echoes for clearer phone calls.

3. Software
The Apple Watch Series 4 uses WatchOS 5.0. The WatchOS 5.0 was first

shown to the public at the San Jose WWDC developer conference held by Apple.

It introduced an instant watch-to-watch walkie-talkie mode, all-new Podcasts app,

raise-wrist-to-speak Siri, customizable Control Center, and the ability to access

notification center and control center from apps. Other features included support

for WebKit to view web pages, six new watch faces, and new workout running

features. It was released to the public on September 17, 2018.

5. Dimensions
The Apple Watch is available in multiple variants, distinguished by different

combinations of casing and interchangeable bands. The Apple Watch Series 4 comes

in two size different in a 40 or 44 millimeter body, with the large size having a

slightly larger screen and battery. The design of the watch has not changed
significantly since its release, so customizable bands and accessories are typically

compatible with any Apple Watch of the associating size (38 mm (1.5 in) matches

40 mm (1.6 in) and 42 mm (1.7 in) matches 44 mm (1.7 in)). The casing of the watch

includes a mechanism to enable the straps to be interchangeable. Each model has

various color and band options. Featured Apple-made bands include colored sport

bands, sport loop, woven nylon band, classic buckle, modern buckle, leather loop,

Milanese loop, and a link bracelet.

III. Functions and Activities

1. Fucntions
The Apple Watch Series 4 can do a lot more than just offering you the

chance to read text messages and answer calls on your wrist, rather than your

phone, which is the main feature everybody knows.

 Get messages and notifications on the wrist

14

 Fitness tracking
 Workout tracking
 Heart rate monitoring
 ECG monitoring (on Watch Series 4 only)
 GPS tracking of workouts (on GPS versions)
 Make calls and receive messages away from your phone (LTE versions
with data plan)
 Turn-by-turn navigation
 Siri commands – alarms, timers, reminders
 Display tickets and boarding passes
 Tell the time

 Apple Watch Setup

When you take your Apple Watch out of the box, it's the same as everyone
else's. What makes your smartwatch personal is the style and the apps, which
mean your Apple Watch will be unique to your needs.

1. Add your Apple ID.

2. Create a passcode.
3. Install your apps.
4. Calibrate your activity settings.
5. Manage your notifications.
6. Back up your settings

 Reset the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is super secure, so if it's lost or stolen, it can't be used
without your permission. However, that means it needs to be properly reset and
unpaired from your iPhone before it can be added to new ones.

To do that, you need to head to your Watch companion app on your iPhone
and go through the unpairing process. Check out our guide to unpairing your
15

Apple Watch,, where we also cover how to reset your data and also set the
device back on a brand new iPhone.

2. Activities

One of the key features of the Apple Watch is as a fitness tracker

track and
sports watch. The beauty of a S
Smartwatch
martwatch is adding this kind of functionality into
one single device – and while it's taken some time, the Apple Watch is a hugely
powerful device.

 Apple Watch: Fitness and activity explained

It's a very good fitness tracker and can also track workouts – and if you have
a Series 4 with GPS, it can replace your standard fitness watch.

The activity app keeps tabs on movement, calories burned and standing time,
and you're encouraged to 'close the rings' in order to make yyour
our daily goals.
There's also a Breathe app, which encourages mindfulness, and taking time out of
your day.
16

All stats are viewable on the watch, are tracked within the Activity app on
your iPhone, and populate the Apple Health app, too.

 Apple Watch: Workout app

The Workout app is a different beast, and enables you to track a bunch of
different activities, from running and cycling to indoor workouts (which essentially
just keep tabs on your heart rate, calories and time spent). The Workout app now
features:

 Indoor Walk
 Outdoor Walk
 Indoor Run
 Outdoor Run
 Elliptical
 Rower
 Pool Swim
 Open Water Swim
 Yoga
 Hiking

Outdoor workouts are tracked with GPS, while the rest feature duration, heart
rate, calories burned and a lap feature. These are stored in the Activity app on
your iPhone to view back after, with all of the maps and stats you'd expect.

The Workout app was treated to another overhaul in watchO5 – with automatic
run detection added along with running specific additions such as Pace Alerts and
cadence tracking – which unlike many sports watches is actually displayed live on
the watch face.

You can read our full explainer on the Apple Watch fitness tracking and
workout modes in our complete guide.
17

 Heart rate tracking explained

Heart rate tracking has been part of the Apple Watch since the original, but
it's only since watchOS 4 that it's turned into a powerful tool. And the Apple
Watch is able to make use of your heart rate in the following way:

 Tracking resting heart rate

 Taking live heart rate readings
 Tracking heart rate during workouts and using it to offer more accurate
calorie burn
 Alert user to irregular of elevated heart rate
 ECG readings (Apple Watch Series 4 only)

Heart rate activity is now tracked throughout the day, and you're able to keep
tabs on resting heart rate, which is a big indicator of improving fitness, and also
tiredness and stress.

What's more, the heart rate monitor can keep tabs on your ticker and alert
you to an elevated bpm, which could be dangerous.

 ECG monitoring

Arguably the biggest addition brought through the Apple Watch Series 4 was
the ECG monitor. It will track the rhythm of your heart, looking for signs of Afib –
a condition that's a leading cause of strokes in the US.

Essentially, it's capable of taking medical grade readings of your heartbeat,

checking for irregular activity and even allows you to take a PDF to your doctor.
